All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Don Blevins Killed By Car Near Cason January 5, 1939 Don Blevins, 48, ex-serviceman residing near Cason, was killed almost instantly early Thursday night of last week when he was struck by a Model A Ford coupe while dragged forty or fifty feet and was found a few feet off the highway. The following night two highway patrolmen arrested G. W. Hunter and his son, Charles, on the highway, near the scene of the accident. The men live at Wills Point. They were brought to Pittsburg and later carried to Mt. Pleasant where the younger Hunter waived examining trial and was allowed $2,000 bail. His father was exonerated, it is reported Deceased is survived by his wife and two children. Don G. Blevins, Veteran of World War, Is Victim January 5, 1939 Evidently a victim of a hit and run driver, Don Gilbert Blevins, 49 year old World War veteran was found dead alongside Highway 11 about two miles west of Cason about 6:30 Thursday. Blevins was a resident of the Spring Hill community in Titus County. Two Wills Point men, who said they were returning home after a visit with relatives east of Cason, were arrested Friday six miles east of Pittsburg as suspects in the death of Mr. Blevins. A light picked up by the officers at the scene of the tragedy matched their car in make and color. Both parking lights on the car were missing. Charley E. Hunter and G. W. Hunter were the names given by the arrested men, who were placed in jail at Pittsburg and later moved to Mt. Pleasant. Charges of negligent homicide and failure to stop and render aid were filed against Charley E. Hunter, the son, and his bond was set at $2,000. Final Rites Held Funeral services for Blevins were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Spring Hill church, with Rev. O. E. Short, Baptist minister directing rites. Members of the Jack Jessup Post of the American Legion acted as pallbearers. Surviving Blevins are his wife and two children, Donnie Ruth and DOrothy Sue, his mother Mrs. Ruth Blevins and four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie McElroy, Mrs. Avie Smith, Misses Ada and Eula Blevins of Titus County.
