Cason Dies Suddenly at Home in City August 26, 1932 R. L. Cason, mayor of Daingerfield for the past 8 years, died suddenly at his home in the city Tuesday morning, August 25, about 8 o'clock, as a result of an attack of the heart. For the past year or more Mr. Cason had been in declining health and had suffered several other similar attacks prior to the fatal one. He had arisen Thursday morning feeling very well, and was preparing to come to town, when the fatal stroke siezed him, and he died in about five minutes. Mr. Cason was born in the Snow Hill community, 6 miles northwest of Daingerfield, December 29, 1864, where he resided until manhood. In early life he was employed in a store at Cason, where he lived several years, and after his marriage to Miss Beulah Kimbell of Pittsburg, moved back to the home place where they resided and practically reared their family. Many times Mr. Cason served his county and city with positions of trust, his first being when he served as Commissioner of precincts 1 & 5, before he moved to town. In September 1904, the family moved to town, after Mr. Cason had been elected Sheriff and Tax collector. He served in this capacity for four years and after the offices were separated, he served as Tax collector four years. At the age of 20 years Mr. Cason joined the Baptist church and afterwards gave freely of his time and means for causes represented by his church. He was a man who dearly loved his family and friends, was big and free hearted and would invariably help his friends in distress, financially or otherwise, many times without....... .........and national-and at the time of his death was serving as County Chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee, and was a man who enjoyed being with his friends and discussing political affairs. He was also serving as vice president and director of the Citizens National Bank of this city at the time of his death, and was considered as a wise counselor and advisor with the other officers of this institution. Deceased had the distinction of being a charter student in the University of Texas and was one of the first to enroll when it was organized, and in later life took a great interest in the University Student's Association and other movements sponsored by the school. Surviving relatives are his wife, three sons, W. L., G. E., and A. A. Cason, and a daughter. Mrs. R. R. Traylor, and a number of grandchildren, all of Daingerfield. Also a half-brother, Wash Cason, of Kiowa, Okla. The body was carried to Snow Hill church Friday afternoon where funeral services were held at 3:30 o'clock, under the direction of Rev. John McClung of Mount Pleasant, assisted by Rev R. E. Streetman, pastor of the Baptist Church in this city, and Rev. M. H. Read, Methodist pastor. J. W. Pate, cashier of the Citizens National Bank, also made a short talk at the funeral, paying a beautiful tribute to the life of his friend. Interment followed in the Snow Hill cemetery.
