(AP) GIRL FOUND DEAD AFTER FAILING TO PASS AT SCHOOL May 20, 1937 Little Era Hare's name was called out at school yesterday as one who would not be promoted this year. Last term she had failed in the same grade, the low sixth. The 11-year old schoolgirl had wanted so much to be promoted this term. Her father, J. M. Hare, is county school superintendent. After the teacher said she had failed again, Eris trudged home and found her mother had gone to a club meeting. At dusk, when Eris failed to answer the door, her frantic father broke it down. They found Eris lying on the floor of her parent's bedroom. She had been shot once above the heart. Her father's small caliber pistol was by her side, one shell fired. ERA LOUISE HARE SHOOTS AND KILLS SELF ACCIDENTALLY Miss Era Louise Hare, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hare of Caldwell, and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hare of Cason, accidentally shot herself last Thursday, May 20, dying about 5:00 o'clock. She was 10 years and 10 months old. Mrs. Hare left her daughter to finish studying her history lesson at 4:30 while she went to call on a neighbor. When Mr. Hare came home at 5:10, he called Era Louise and she did not answer. He evtered the house and found her lying on the floor with her head on the machine pedal. The pistol, a .22 was still in the dresser drawer where it had lain for six years but was at the opposite end of the drawer from its usual position. A small powder burn was in the child's left hand otherwise there was no sign except a small hole where the bullet entered her breast. In a slight upward range, the bullet came out above her shoulder blade and entered the wall across the room, from her body. It missed her heart but severed a blood vessel, internal bleeding being the direct cause of her death. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at Caldwell Saturday morning at 10:00 o'clock, the pastor of the Methodist Church, a Methodist and a Baptist minister conducted rites. So great was the floral offering that lovely flowers extended from one side of the church to the other and covered the small casket. "The Old Rugged Cross", a favorite of the child, and "Look for the Beautiful", were the only songs. The body was interred in the Caldwell cemetery. Mr. Hare is county superintendent of Burleson county. Mrs. and Mrs. J. M. Hare and son, Mr. and Mrs. Carol Hare and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hare of Cason attended the funeral. ---
