All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Mrs. Edna Lasater, Pionner Citizen Of Snow Hill, Dies June 6, 1938 Mrs. Edna Lasater, 97, Morris County pioneer, of the Snow Hill community died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lou Callaway, in the Hickory Hill community at 6:00 o'clock Monday afternoon. Mrs. Lasater was Miss Edna Traylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dunstan Traylor, before her marriage to Jim Lasater in 1858. She was born in Troup County, Ga., in 1841, and came to Texas in 1852, settling in the Snow Hill community. She was a member of the Baptist Church, having been the first person to join the church at Snow Hill by baptism. Funeral services were held at the Justiss cemetery on the Mt. Pleasant highway at 3:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. R. E. Streetman, Baptist pastor at Cooper and former Snow Hill pastor, was in charge of rites, and was assisted by Rev. L. E. Lamb, Mt. Pleasant pastor. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased as follows: Roy and Arthur Blevins of Dallas, J. M. Lasater of Naples, Rob Whitaker of Mt. Pleasant, Johnnie Harkrider of Hickory Hill, and Alex Justiss of Mt. Pleasant. Of the 10 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Lasater, only four survive their mother. They are Mrs. Lou Callaway of Hickory Hill, Mrs. Annie Ryan of Snow Hill, Mrs. Sallie Justiss of Mt. Pleasant, and Pleas Lasater of Hickory Hill. She leaves one brother, John Traylor, of Ft. Worth, 35 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four great-great- grandchildren. Among the out-of-town attendants at funeral services were Dr. Whitt Russell of Rhone, Miss Bennie Mae Ryan, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Miller and Mr. and Mrs. John L. Bicknell, all of Shreveport, La., John Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. Will Henderson and son, Harold, and Mrs. Mae Wood and son, Billie, all of Marshall. Mrs. Cleo Davis of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Denson and son, Dewey Jr., of Daingerfield, Mr. and Mrs. Manley Gordon of Overton, Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Carpenter of Pittsburg, Mrs. Mattie Johnson of Naples, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Presley, Mrs. John Cook, Traylor Russell, Olen Justiss, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Traylor and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Traylor, all of Mt. Pleasant.
