Montgomery, prominent and highly-respected citizen of Cason, died at her home in that place Sunday night. Mrs. Montgomery became suddenly ill Sunday morning, her death being the result of hemmorhage of the brain. She was 60 years of age Friday, Feb. 2. Rev. J. H. McClung, Baptist pastor of Mt. Pleasant, conducted funeral services at the Cason Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. He was assisted by Rev. J. W. Reeder of Hughes Springs, Rev. R. E. Streetman of Daingerfield, and Rev. Elwyn Chaney of Cason. Interment followed in the Snow Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were R. J. Fielder, Lee Seibert, Will Bicknell, Stafford Rivers, John Russell and W. R. Fielder. Mrs. Montgomery's Sunday school class consisting of twelve girls, acted as flower attendants. Ida Henderson Montgomery was born and reared in and around Cason, her home being in the Snow Hill community when she married Dr. J. W. Bassett of Cason. To this union were born two sons and one daughter, all of whom survive; Ira Bassett of the Jenkins community, Louie Bassett, who lives in the Montgomery home, and Mrs. J. D. Montgomery of Cason. After Dr. Bassett's death, she was married to R. R. Montgomery, who survives her with one daughter, Miss Robert, who is a student in the Daingerfield High School. Mrs. Montgomery united with the Snow Hill Baptist Church at the age of 19 years, since which time she had been a devoted and consecrated supporter of her church. She was active in every worthy movement of her community. Besides her husband and children, the deceased leaves two brothers and one sister; W. M. Henderson, Mt. Pleasant; J. W. Henderson, Cason; Mrs. Dee Whitaker, Snow Hill. As an expression of sympathy for the classmate, Miss Robert, in the loss of her mother, a large number of the senior class here attended the funeral, along with a host of other Daingerfield people who had known Mrs. Montgomery and loved her. CASON LADY DIES VERY SUDDENLY February 4, 1934 Mrs. Ida Montgomery, wife of R. R. Montgomery, prominent merchant of Cason, died very suddenly Sunday afternoon at her home following an illness of only a few hours. Sunday morning Mrs. Montgomery was in her usual good health when she was stricken with an attack of the heart, after which she hardly rallied and passed away late in the afternoon. Deceased was a most excellent christian woman and had been a member of the Baptist church since early in life, also she was prominent in religious and social circles of her home town and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was 60 years and 2 days of age at the time of her death, and is survived by her husband and four children, as follows; Ira Bassett, who resides south of Daingerfield, Louie Bassett and Mrs. Jeff Montgomery and Miss Robert Marie Montgomery, all of Cason. The three former children are by a former marriage to the late Dr. Bassett of Cason. Two brothers, J. W. Henderson of Cason and W. M. Henderson of Mount Pleasant, and a sister, Mrs. Dee Whitaker, 4 miles north of Cason, also survive. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church in Cason under the direction of Rev. J. W. Reeder of Hughes Springs, assisted by Rev. J. D. McClung of Mount Pleasant and Rev. R. E. Streetman of this City, in the presence of one of the largest congregations ever to attend a similar gathering at the church. The body was afterwards carried to Snow Hill cemetery, 3 miles north of Cason where it was laid to rest.
