10-Year Old Richard Pope Jr. Dies of Paralysis
June 27, 1938

Infantile paralysis claimed the life of Richard Pope Jr., 10, who died in a
Shreveport hospital at 8:00 o'clock Monday morning after an illness of one
week.

He had been placed in an iron lung four days before his death, but the
benefits of this fine modern treatment could not save him.

Funeral services were held at Shreveport at 9:00 o'clock Tuesday morning and
burial was at Cason Tuesday afternoon.

The child would have celebrated his 10th birthday next Saturday. He was a
child or Richard Pope, who is in the insurance business. They have been living
in Shreveport and New Orleans. Mrs. Pope is a daughter of J. L. Russell of
Cason.

The boy is survived by numerous relatives in Cason and East Texas besides the
Popes and the Russells.
