All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Mrs. Jane Porter, Pioneer Citizen of Cason, Succumbs 1935 Mrs. Tabitha Jane Porter, one of the most highly esteemed pioneer citizens of Morris County, died last Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son, J. C. Porter, in Cason following a three days' illness. Mrs. Porter had remained active for the greater part of her 94 years, the past several months finding her rapidly failing in health. Following a brief service for the family, at the Porter residence, rites were held at the Cason Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. H. L. Robinson of Texarkana, presiding elder of the Texarkana district of the Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. G. M. Byers, pastor of the Cason Methodist Church, and Rev. J. W. Reeder of Hughes Springs pastor. Interment was made in Blevins cemetery. Mrs. Porter, born near Prescott, Washington County, Ark., moved to Daingerfield in 1857 at the age of 16, to remain in Morris county for the remainder of her life, except for a short period of residence in Cass County. It was at the age of 16 also that she became a con- secrated member of the Presbyterian Church, following its teachings faithfully. She had attended Chapel Hill college then located in this section. Mrs. Porter had been a beloved citizen of Cason since 1885, when she moved from Daingerfield. In 1869, she married to Mr. Porter, who lived until 1896, when he was claimed a victim of a boiler explosion at a sawmill near Daingerfield. Mrs. Porter never married again, remaining with her children, who survive as follows: Mrs. Susan A. Tidwell and J. C. Porter, Cason; Mrs. Janie Long and Mrs. Winnie Long, San Antonio; Mrs. Ada Baird, Clarksville; and Hugh Porter, Kingsville. She also leaves 31 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren.
