Rivers, aged 82 years, pioneer citizen of Morris county, died at his home in Daingerfield on Wednesday January 8, at 8 o'clock a.m. following an illness of several weeks duration. Mr. Rivers had spent most of his life in this county, and had many friends who were deeply grieved to learn of his death. He had been unusually active for one of his age up until his late illness. Mr. Rivers was an honest, upright, christian gentleman, and a man whose integrity and uprightness was never questioned, and his word could always be depended upon. He joined the Baptist church early in life and was a faithful member until the end came, always taking an active stand for those things that he thought best for the welfare of his community and church. Deceased was born in Wilkinson county, GA., September 3, 1851. He was married in 1873 to Miss Lizzie Key, and to this union four children were born, three of whom survive. His wife died in 1902, and in 1904 he was married to Mrs. Anna Rivers, and to this union two children were born, both surviving. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Daingerfield last Thursday morning at 10 o'clock under the direction of the pastor, Rev R. E. Streetman, after which the boby was conveyed to the local cemetery where interment took place. Surviving relatives are his wife and five children as follows: N L Rivers of Pittsburg, Stafford Rivers of Roby, Mrs. Estella Moore of Dallas, and Paul & Branon Rivers of Daingerfield. Also a brother Oscar Rivers of Omaha and two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Parham of Mercedes and Mrs. Annie Durst of Paris, and a stepdaughter, Mrs. L. C. McDaniel of Fort Worth, also 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
