Wisener 11 December 1902 ** Additional information provided by Dixie Wilson, Nov. 2001, in the table above and the following paragraphs. ** From the East side of the hill, looking back at the cemetery, are the graves of Eric, Doyle and Almarene (3 of Rufus and Lucy Lenore Wisener King's children), then Lucy, Nan, Rom, and Rob (4 of Romelous and Isabelle Christian Wisener's children), then there are the graves of Romelous and Isabelle Christian Wisener. ## ** Nancy Evans Christian's parents died when she was small; the white people would not go into the house to rescue her (her parents died of some fever -- yellow, typhoid -- and the whites were afraid). A small band of Cherokees happened by, heard the baby/toddler crying, and took her with them. When Nancy was about 8 yrs. old, Dr. Evans visited the Cherokee village, saw a young white girl living with the Indians and, on his next trip to the Indian village, took a bolt of cloth (calico) to trade for her. My grandmother told us this story several times, then there was an article in the Nacogdoches Sentinel regarding this. I cannot remember exactly when the article was published, but it must have been the late 1950's. I had the article until my daughter took it to school (without permission) for show and tell.
