End of Jimmerson Cemetery The above information was copied as displayed in the typed document. Additional information, particularly given names and maiden names, are provided in ( ) as research aids, no source other than the family records of this researcher were consulted. ________________________________________________ Historical notes from this descendant: This cemetery was part of the settlement of Wadeville established ca. 1852. The David SHERRILL, Robert SMITH. & Theo DANIEL families arrived here from Georgia by wagontrain in about 1853. William J. WADE (1834-1877) was the communities founder, he and numerous family members are buried here. The settlement was abandoned in 1881 when the town of Kerens was created 3 miles north with the arrival of the railroad. The Jimmerson Cemetery was also the site of the "White Church" (named for the exterior color). This was a major community center prior to and after the establishment of the nearby settlement of Wadeville. Confederate soldiers were mustered there at the beginning of the civil war. Union troops occupied it during reconstruction. It burned in 1883 according to records of the Masonic Lodge which originally met at the "White Church" and subsequently moved to Kerens. David Warren SHERRILL donated the land for the Jimmerson Cemetery. He operated the first horse drawn cotton gin in Wadeville prior to the Civil War. Though he is not buried there (rather in Longview in 1869 for reasons unknown, other than the fact his parents resided in that area), his wife, Mary T. (Smith) SHERRILL and her father Robert SMITH are. The site is abandoned and almost unrecognizable as a cemetery. This submitter is the 3rd great-grandson of the David W. & Mary (SMITH) SHERRILL. This information is being submitted in hope of preserving the record of these Texas pioneers. Robert R.
