Morrell survey Written: 1864 The State of Texas Navarro County Know all men by these presents that I Reece V. Morrel, have this day bargained sold and conveyed and do by these presents bargain, sell and convey a certain lot or tract of land to C.B. Hightower of the state and county as above written for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and sixty dollars cash in hand to me paid by the said C.B. Hightower, the receipt thereof I hereby acknowledge. The description and location of the said land as follows: In Navarro County on the waters of Richland Creek and about eighteen and a half miles SW from Corsicana beginning N30 W325 vars and S60 W 200 vars from the NE corner of Wm Bryant's 320 acre survey at a lake from which a mesquite 12 in dia brs S25 @188vrs. Thence S60 W800 vars a stake from which a mesquite 6 in dia bares N60 E174 vars Thence N30 W1129 vars a stake from which a mesquite 7 in dai brs N20 1/2 W3 vrs do 6 in dia vs N45 W35 vrs Thence N60 E800 vars a stake from which a must 8 in dia bs S11 W 53 1/2 vrs Thence S30 E 1129 varas to the beginning suposed to be one hundred and sixty acres more or less it being one half of the headright of Ellis K. Morrell Now I find myself my administrators and assign to warrant and defend title to the said C.B. Hightower forever against and and all legal claims whatever. Morrel's heirs were granted his headright from the State of Texas April 14, 1857 - 160 acres. Reece V. Morrel was probably the son, and Administrator. C.B. [Charnel Berrien] Hightower was the son of Thomas Preston Hightower, grandson of Charnel Hightower (1796-1871). C.B. married Martha McCord on Mar 26, 1861. She was daughter of Lemuel McCord. Hightowers were early settlers coming from Mississippi to Navarro County - although they didn't have headrights, they bought their land early and lived there for generations.
