Cubler, Sr., Sheriff of the county of Navarro and the State of Texas, having full confidence in F.M. Grimes of said county and state, do hereby nominate and appoint him, the said, F.M. Grimes my true and lawful Deputy in my name, place and stead to do and perform say any and all acts and things done by him pertaining to the office of said Sheriff of said county and state, hereby ratifying and confirming any and all such acts and things lawfully done in the premises by virtue hereof. Witness my hand, this 5th day of Dec A.D. 1890 R.H. Cubley, Sr. Sheriff of Navarro County, Texas The State of Texas County of Navarro Before me, J.J. Wilson, Clerk of County Court of Navarro County, on this day personaly appeared R.H. Cubley, Sr. known to me to be the person whose name is subscribed to the foregoing instrument, and acknowledged to me that he executed the same for the purposes and considerations therein expresses. Given under my hand and seal of office, this 5th day of Dec A.D. 1890 J.J. Wilson CCCNC Oath of Office I, F.M. Grimes, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as Deputy Sheriff of Navarro County, Texas according to the best of my skill and ability, agreeable to the Constitution and Laws of the United States and of this State; and I do further solemnly swear, or affirm, that since the adoption of the Constitution of this State, I being a citizen of this State, have not fought a duel with deadly weapons within this State, nour out of it, nor have I sent or accepted a challenge to fight a duel with deadly weapons, nor have I acted as second in carrying a challenge, or sided, advised or assited any person thus offending, and I futhermore solemnly swear or affirm, that I have not, directly or indirectly, paid, offered or promised to pay, contributed nor promised to contribute, any money or valuable thing or promised any public office or employment as a reward to secure my appointment as such Deputy, so help me God!
