Spurlock was taken to Dallas Sat and operated on for appendicitis. He was found to be in a critical condition, as Dr. Small said if he had delayed the operation a day or two longer an operation would not have saved him. Credit in English will be given next year to High School pupils who during the summer months will read books from the Classic writers, either American or English. Aug 1 , 1918 No 35 Vol XXVIII Blooming Grove population 1400 First Bale of cotton brought to Blooming Grove Sat. election day and was raised on Mrs. Clara Gilliam's farm near Lone Oak. It brought on the local market 26 cents/pound and a premium of $52 was made up and given. Precinct Convention The precinct convention held Sat. afternoon and Capt R.D. George was elected chairman and L.I. Griffin, secretary for 2 yrs. The following delegates and alternates to the convention were elected: R.A. High, T.M. George, Dr. Kelsey, R.S. Loyd, J.B. Aug 8, 1918 No 36 Vol XXVIII R.W. George Editor and Proprietor Published every Thursday The new rules for selling flour are six pounds per person a month; quantity sold 12 to 24 pounds. A farmer who raises his wheat is privileged to 12 lbs per person for his family, but not grind more than enough to last him until Oct 1. The merchant is allowed to sell 3 lbs of sugar per person for a family; 2 lbs to be sold at one time in the city and 5 lbs in the country. 25 lbs may be sold a month for preserving. Mrs. Jimmy Wallace conducted a very delightful swimming program a few nights ago. Carle George has a position with the Citizen's National Bank, and Roy Hargrove is helping T.M.George in the store.
