Henderson Joe Davis, a white man plead guilty in the District Court this morning to a charge of violating the local option law. The defendant's wife and their small children were present when Judge Davis passes a sentence of one year in the penitentiary on him. The wife sat immediately in front of the Judge with her prattling and innocent babe at her breast and as the sentence was being passed the older child, three years of age, stood looking the Judge in the face...... The Judge is now considering whether he will make a suspended sentence of the case, as the defendant's wife and children are in poor condition for th winter and without support if the defendant should go to the pen. -- Observer Hale and Hearty P.E. Farmer seems to have about regained his usual good health. He was in town a few days ago shaking hands with friends. Yarber Sowing Wheat Homer Whorton ordered 200 bushels of wheat and the same has been distributed out among farmers who are sowing wheat. As a rule those who are sowing wheat. As a rule those who are sowing wheat are putting in from 10 to 20 acres each. Sowing Oats Six hundred bushels of oats have been unloaded from car shipped to J.H. Whorton and famers have hauled them out and where the ground is plowable oats are being sown. There is a strong sentiment in this community to diversify another year and farmers are now sowing oats and wheat and selecting and getting aside suitable potato ground and cane ground and water melon patches for another year. For Bootlegging Wiley Frost, colored, was arrested charged with selling whiskey. It is alleged that he disposed of case of beer Saturday night at at 25c per bottle and when arrested had in his possession 30 pts of whiskey. Constable Mabry took him to the county jail. The Farmers Union held another rousing meeting Saturday afternoon and several members made interesting talks along subjects pertaining to the welfare of the tiller of the soil. The Union favors a big reduction in the cotton acreage. Holding Cotton. Although cotton continues to range upward, farmers and merchants are sitting steady, waiting for the prices to go a little higher. Very little cotton is being sold and very little is being poicked for there is very little in the field. The newly elected county officers have been qualified. Clay Nash has appointed T.W. Lovett assistant county attorney. A young man near Chatfield was struck by lighting and killed. He was in the field picking cotton. The Masonic bodies of Corsicana have sent out notices to Masons in Navarro and adjoining counties calling attention to the annual meeting to be held there on Thanksgiving. Birthday Little Miss Mattie Sue Harris celebrated her 8th birthday Friday afternoon.Many little friend were present and all had a good time. Blooming Grove is emerging from the strain and will be able and will be able to participate in a healthy Thanksgiving celebration. Frank Cumpston The salvation armory at Corsicana was robbed Friday of 96 shirts, 12 hats, 6 pairs of shoes. The postoffice at Frost was destroyed by fire Friday night. The fire started in the rear of the building and had gained considerable headway before discovered. The origin of the fire is not known. J.D. Sims, a former citizen, dropped in Friday and was the guest of his friend, J.W. Brown. J.D. is living in Oklahoma now. Uncle Harve is dead. Uncle Harve was an old time negro, possessing all the politeness and meekness of the ante-bellum negro. He lived to be very old and he shouted out of this world into the world beyond. AD Dr. C.C.
