Andy McCord and family came in Monday on a visit to relatives. Mrs. D.S. Welch returned Monday evening from a visit in Kerens. F.M. Grimes was among the passengers to the county seat Monday. M.D. Webb has been absent from his place of business a few days this week, on account of sickness. Robert McCormick went to Corsicana Monday to serve on the jury, but was excused, much to his delight. Mrs. Powell Capps and little girl returned to Tyler. Miss Lilla Warren spent a few days in Blooming Grove recently, guest of Miss Eunicw Williamson. Fred Cumpston has sold his automatic cotton packer to M.G. Young, R.J. Page and Dr. Sewell for $3,000 and $5.00 royalty. The new owners are investigating with a view of manufacturing the presses here in Blooming Grove. J.H. Williams has gone to his rice famr near Beaumonth. Mrs. T.M. George has been very sick, but is better. John M. Reid has been real sick with typhoid penumonia but he is much better. The Training school commencement beginsSunday and closes Wed night. Miss Neva Lloyd and brother, Henry left Sat for a visit to a brother in Jacksonville, TX. Hen Roost Cluckings Sat night quite a crowd of young people stormed the Roost to help Miss Annie Carroll to celebrate her 20th birthday.....Miss Casie Badget and John Roberts, Miss Carl Melton and E. Sumner, Miss Stella Ramsey and Albert Baker, Miss Eav Chambers and Willie Moore, Miss Pearl Stublefield and Grover Melton, Miss Diana Stephens and Ben Melton, Miss Ella Farmer and Will Phillips, Eviline Fagala and Dee Badgett and a dozen young men who had no partners....happy to see Annie enjoying her friends after two months of feeble health. May 31, 1906 Vol Xvi No 41 The Citizen's National Bank Blooming Grove On Sat. June 2nd the ladies of Rose Hill Cemetery Association will have charge of J.J. Stone's soda fountain and a per cent of the proceeds will be given the cemetery association. Thelate census shows 257 white children in scholastic age in Blooming Grove school districe. There are 21 colored children entitled to free school priveleges. Mr. Edwin Dorsey has been elected principal of the public school at Georgetown and has asked the trustees here to release him from his position in public school here for next session. Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey leave for Georgetown this week. Judge Taylor will occupy the residence vacated by Mr. Dorsey. Edgar Campbell has been elected to fill the vacancy in the public school by the resignation of E.C. Dorsey. Grand Jury Report. We have been in session in al l17 days and have examined 328 witnesses. We have ofund and report 60 bills of indictment, of which number 28 are for felonies, and 32 for misdemeanors. This is a brief synopsis of our work. The county jail and county farm were visited and both in good condition with fewer prisoners than usual. We have inspected the new court house nearing completion and congratulate Navarro County on the fact that she will soon have an official home which will be commodious and comfortable. Joe H. Mrs. Benn Hartzell and children left Monday for Glemming ranch in Hardeman county to spend the summer with Mr. Hartzell who is manager of the Flemming ranch. Mrs. T.S. Hill and daughtere, Miss Ruby, left yesterday for Sherman where, after a short visit, they were joined by Miss Vera and left for Erick, Okla to spend a month with Mrs. J.S. Stubbs. W.B. Rutherford and family attended a birthday celebration at Cryer Creek Sunday at the home of Mrs. Albright. It was Father Rutherford's 76th anniversary and the occasion was a most delightful one. City Meat Market J.J. "Jim" Scott, Propr. The new courthouse at Corsicana will be complted about June 11. Miss Tillie Spivey returned Sat. from a visit to Corsicana. Dr. Bounds reports a fine boy born to Mr. and Mrs. H.E. McAfee. Geo. Holditch has bought a new piano for his daughter, Susie A bowling alley has been opened up in T.S. Hill's brick house next to city Hall. Roy Langston and Mrs. Jim Vandiver left Monday for Richland to spend a week. The Baptist ladies took in about $13 from their ice cream supper last Friday. Miss Kittie Outlaw returned Monday from an extended visit to relatives in Bastrop county. Roger Carroll has accepted a position with Warrn Bros livery stable. Next Monday is a justice court day, and doubtless a big crowd will be in town. John Reid is able to be at his place of business this week, but looks peaked yet. Presiding Elder Barcus has been here this week attending commencement exercises. G.G. Herren has bought the Mrs. Katie Cohen residence and will move his family here right away. Misses Alta Nelson, Octa Dodsen, and Leila George have gone to Corsicana to attend the Summer Normal. Lige Armstrong helped wait on the trade at Stokes & Holdiches' Friday and Satruday makig a good hand. Dad Adams has been screen galleries and making other improvements at Mrs. Sarah Davis the past week. Ed Carroll came in Sat from Mart to recuperate. Ed has just had measles and has not regained his strength. Miss Pearl Carter returned to her home in Corsicana Monday after a delightful visit to Miss Ann Grant, one of our most popular girls. Miss Mary Thornton, a charming young lady of Hot Springs, Ark is in the city, a gust of her cousin, Miss Zora Cox. Cousin John Edward Carroll came in from Mart on Sat. evening local with a broken ankle caused by roller skates. His cousins all sympathize with the boy, especially cousins D-Do-Doek. Miss Partha Carroll visited her cousins Sat. night and returned Sun and all attended the singing Sun evening at Mr. & Mrs. J.E. (Bud) Melton. Twin boys were born to Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Butcher Thursday last. The democrats of Frost met and organized a Mays democrativde club, with R.J. Sanders, president; J.M. Scott, vice president and Dr. J.M. Matlock, secretary. Rev. P.E. Farmer brought us a bucket of nice peaches Monday for which he has our thanks. They were from his own good orchard and were well matured and of fine flavor. U.S. Postoffice Ruling. On and after Jul 1, 1906 patrons of the rural delivery service will be required to display signals on their boxes when they leave mail in them for carriers to collect, as after that date, carriers, when seving their routes will not be required to open and examine any mail boxes except those on which signals are displayed to indicate there is mail for carriers to collect. We are sorry to chronicle the serious illness of Mrs. T.M. George. P.O. Jonas brought us a sample of his new berry--a cross between a blackberry and rasberry. It makes a fine berry. Little Dudley George has been right sick several days, but is convalescent. Issue 42 missing June 6, 1906 Vol XVI No 43 Mr. & Mrs. Tom Hewitt, Cryer Creek, lost an infant Monday. Mr. & Mrs. A.H. Holloman left Mon for Stamford to visit relatives. Mr & Mrs. J.S. Hemphill will occupy the W.D. Allen residence. Rubia Mixon went to Powell Sat to spend several days with his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. S.G. Sheppard. Mrs. Robert Gardbner and children returned to Frost Monday evening after a pleasant visit to Blooming Grove relatives. The young folks enjoyed a party Fri night at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Harris (north the railroad). R.B. Bills went to Frost Sat to bid on new Baptist church which is to be built there soon. Mr. & Mrs. W.S. Skiles were guest of the family of J.L. Harris Sat and Sun. M.G. Dawson and family were down from Frost Sun guest at home of W.W. Fitzgerald Miss Sallie Scott is quite sick at the home of C.W. McCool. Master Lindell Davis has the mumps. Mrs. M.E. Vandiver has gone to Victoria to visit her daughtere, Mrs. Whipps. Jim Scott has sold his market to Tom Spires. Mr. Scott has bought a farm near Frost. Dr. J.A. Green has closed contract with Nelson & Bills for a handsome new residence to be created where the residence he now occupies stands. C.T. McConnico, who has been City Marshall of Kerens for several years, tendered his resignation, J.J. Walker was appopinted to serve the unexpired term. Group who travelled to Richland Creek: Mrs. J.A. Westbrook living down near Dresden, was wallking over his cotton field and discovered here and yonder a wide-open bloom. He pulled one off and brought it to this office. June 21, 1906 Vol XVI No 44 Marriage: Dan Peevey and Lizzie Metcalf, the ceremonies were performed in the public road near the Carroll schoolhouse by Squire Carroll who is getting very popular of late with the young people. Mrs. Peter Farmer has been very sick at her daughters, Mrs. Mary Fagala near Navarro Mills. Carl Brown, son of J.C. Brown has returned from Tyler College. Meador Estate Jun 19. E.L. Meador appointed Administrator of the estate of W.J.Meador and Mattie E. Meador of Cryer Creek. Appt. April 1906. Walter Armstrong, Walter Barton, Claud Peters, Will Alexander, C. Taylor, Jim Richards, George Brown and "Scottie" Scott went to Frost Sat. night and enjoyed riding on the merry-go-round. Misses Dixie Mabry and Lillian Terry have gone to Grandberry to visit the fmaily of H.T. Griffin. Faculty of Kerens High School. Prof R.J. Kepke, Principal; J.M. Smith, 1st Asst; Mrs. Mollie Smith, Misses Ethel Wareing and Carrie Anderson, Intermediate Dept; Mrs. R.H. Logan, Primary Dept. (Kerens Tribune) W.A. Kimmons his purchased the J.A. Robert residence in North part of town. Consideration $700. Frost Star J.E. Walker, C.W. McCool, K. Hariley, Jess Brumbelow fished at Frost Lake Monday night. W.A. High has been very sick, but is on the road to health again. At a meeting of stockholders of the cotton ware house company Sat. it was decided to build the warehouse in Blooming Grove, and at a meeting called for Sat Jun 30, a board of directors will be elected. W.F. Campbell was elected president and E.J. Babers Sec at Sat. meeting. John Ferguson, merchant at Avalon, was here Sat and treated himself to a fine rubber tire buggy. John Truelove, Royal Scarborough, Will Jones, Seth Brant, Mother Willeford; C. Ramsey and Bill Powell left last Thur for Vernon to operate Truelove's steam thresher. H.A. Coleman, who was for years associated with W.W. Capton in the shoe business in Corsicana died a few days ago. J.A. Wallace and Misses Cinda and Sarah will leave about Jul 1st for a visit to the old home in Alabama. Miss Vera Brittain, who has been in charge of Turk & Webb's millinery depat, left Sat for her home in Hillsboro. J.O. McSpadden and Charley Smith say their oats made very poor turnout. Charley getting only 100 bushels off of 20 acres. Mr. James Ervin Riddle and Miss Mattie Foster Ivy were united in marriage Wed morning [Jun 20] of this week at 7:30 o'clock at the home of the bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. Hinton C. Ivy. Quite a number of relatives and friends were present, and all pronounc Bro Armstrong's ceremony a pretty one and the wedding commensorate with the pretty ceremony. The bride is a Blooming Grove girl who was reared and educated here. She is not only a beautiful young lady, but a sweet girl how finds much pleasure in church work and ministering to the poor and sick. The groom comes from Mexia and is a young man of exemplary character. He attended the Training School here and it was in this way hat he met Miss Ivy and at once learned to lover her and amire her many sweet traits of heart and mind. Mr. Riddle is industrious and possessed with a fortunate turn for money-making. They received many nice and usefull presents. They left on the 8:30 train same morning for Mexia. Neill will be there in the interest of the Union. D.F. Spivey, President The gin men are beginning to get their machinery in sahpe for the coming cotton crop. Mr C.T. Moore formerly of Ennis but now jeweler at J.J. Stone's drugstore and Miss Lorena Sanders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Sanders, surprised their many friends Sunday morning, June 17, 1906 by having Rev. J.H. Grime, pastor of the Baptist church pronounced the ceremony that forever linked their future lives, the happy event taking place while the couple were seated in their buggy in front of the ministers residence. Mr. & Mrs. Moore left on the morning train for a few days visit with his parents at Ennis. The Star extends to them the usual congratulations and best wishes for a happy and prosperous journey over the matrimonial sea of life. Frost Star. There will be a gathering of old settlers and Camp Winkler at Corsicana, July 4th, Camp R.Q. Mills and the 20th Texas infantry have also been invited. The Corsicana Gun Club will help furnish attraction by testing their skill and shooting for prizes. W.E. Brown and wife and Mrs. Lizzie Richardson left Tuesday for their new home in Rogers. Mrs. Benton, Mrs. E. Bradley and Mrs. Ivy were down from Frost recently guests at Henry Ivy's. "Mite meeting" at the Christian Parsonage Friday night June 29. Everybody invited. Come and bring a "mite" for one orphan. Here for a visit: Mr. Tank Spivey now of Bellevue, the ill fated town of Clay County that was totally destroyed a few months ago by a death dealing cyclone. The Rev. Mel Clough has been sick for quite a while and 17 of his neighbors gave him a days work which they, intend to repeat this week, to save his cotton crop. J.J. Stone was down from Frost Friday looking after business matters. The old bumps in the street next to the Christian church have been harrowed down, making the street smoothe and nice. Master Robert Dodds was accidentally hit near the eye Sat. with a baseball, making a very bad hurt. Mrs. Germany was down from Frost Monday visiting. Uner the auspices of the M.E. Church South, a protracted meeting will start Sunday. The good pastor and members are busy preparing for what they hope will turn out to be a great revival. Citizen's National Bank Directors: Jas Garitty, J.E. Whiteselle, M.G. Young. R.S. Loyd, Cashier Master Elbert Cox fell from a tree Tuesday and broke his arm, the bone protruding from the flesh. The beauty and chivalry of our little city assembled by invitation at the home of Mr. J.T. Scarborough Friday night last, the occasion being a social given in honor of Miss Alice McKee, a cousin of Miss Ruth Scarborough. The elegantly furnished parlors were arranged beautifully for the occasion and Miss Ruth directed affairs in a most happy way. While piano muisc of a high order and other passtime enjoyments were delighted in, the principle attraction in the way of a program was Progressive 42. Three tables were placed in order and the young folks played for prizes, which added zet and charm to the already entertaining game. The contest was sharp, but Mr. Claud Turk came out winner for first pirze and the booby prize was awarded to Miss Mary Ellis Carter. At a popular hour pineapple sherbert and agel food and coconut cake and champagn wafers were served, during the enjoyment of which sparkling wit and good humored jokes kept the house in an uproar of laughter and good cheer. The pleasures of the evening continued with unabeted interest till both hands of the clock pointed skyward, when the hostess was complimented for her lavis hospitality and the guests departed for their respective homes. Old Grandma Cleveland is quite sick at Kelm and Mrs. Geo Holditche went down there Sat. to spend a few days with her. Walter Huffstutler and family have moved to their new home, the W.E. Brown place and J.E. Walker and family have moved to the Huffstutler home which Mr. Walker has bought. Mrs. Walter Armstrong has returned home from a visit with relatives. Clyde Ramsey left Sat. for his home in Alton, after spending amonth here. He was accompanied home by Mrs. Ruft Ramsey who will spend several days with the family of Dr. J.B. Ramsey.
