Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Kerens Tuesday afternoon for James Enoch Fletcher, pioneer resident of Kerens. He was born in Warrenton, Va., Aug 4, 1852 and died Aug. 9, 1938. He came to Texas as a young man and settled at Bryan, later moving to Runnells County where he met and married Miss Ella Webster. 47 years ago the couple moved to this county and settled near Kerens. Last year they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. For the past 18 years they have lived in Kerens. He is survived by his wife and 7 children: B.L. Fletcher of Weatherford, A.P. Fletcher of Corsicana, W.E. Fletcher of Dallas, J.E. Fletcher, Jr. of Houston, Mrs. Winnie B Etheredge of Kerens, Mrs. Ila Barlow of Palestine and Mrs. Ruby Steele of Tyler; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He became a Christian and united with the Baptist Church 45 years ago and has lived a consistant Christian life since. He was a true loyal husband and a kind and loving father and will be missed by all who knew him. Rev. Rivers Cartlidge of Athens conducted the services, assisted by Rev. Joe N. Everheart and C. E. Wilkins, with internment at the Bazette Cemetary under the direction of the P. N. Stockton Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Ford Ivey, Pat Murphrey, Howell Brister, Jim Inmon, Burt Inmon, and Fred Jennings. ====== Mrs. J. E. Fletcher Dies at Kerens Kerens, May 7 - Mrs. J. E. Fletcher, 85, resident of Kerens community most of her life, died at her home here Saturday, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 P.M. from the First Baptist Church. Burial eill be in the Bazette Cemetery. The rites will be conducted by Rev. Frank Gillham, pastor of the church, and Dr. W.M. Shamburger, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Corsicana. Mrs. Fletcher was a Baptist. Surviving are 3 sons: Lacy Fletcher, Weatherford; Percy Fletcher, Corsicana; Jimmy Fletcher, Houston; 3 daughters: Mrs. D.S. Etheredge, Kerens; Mrs. Ila Barlow, Palestine; and Mrs. Nat Waters, Corsicana; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Inmon Funeral Home directs. Church, Corsicana. Mrs. Fletcher had been a resident of this community for the greater part of her life. She was a Baptist. Surviving are 3 sons: Lacy of Weatherford; Jummy, Houston; and Percy of Corsicana; 3 daughters: Mrs. D.S. Etheredge of Kerens; Mrs. Nat Waters of Corsicana; and Mrs. Ila Barlow of Palestine; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Interment was made in the Bazette cemetery.
