SCROGGINS Funeral services for Thomas Jefferson Scroggins, aged 80 years, who died Monday night at the family residence, 1105 South Eighteenth Street, were held Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock from the Calvary Baptist Church. Burial was in the (New)Chatfield Cemetery. The Rites were conducted by Rev. Clyde Griffin, pastor of the church. Surviving are his wife, three sons, E.W. Scroggins, Pasadena, Texas; Ira and Eugene Scroggins, both of Corsicana; three daughters, Mrs. V.J. Shown, Houston; Mrs. J.C. Hughes, Goldsmith, and Mrs. J. Combs, Kerens; three step- sons, Alex Cummings, Corsicana; C.L. Clay, Corsicana and C.W. Clay, Fort Worth; three step-daughters, Mrs. O.M. Davis, Ennis; Mrs. J.M. Derham and Mrs. Jim Reese, Itasca; Four brothers, Joseph Carroll Scroggins, Mt. Holly, Ark., James Franklin Scroggins, Powell; Sanford Scroggins, Irving and William H. Scroggins, Thornton; a sister, Mrs. O.O. Pait, Malone and other relatives. Pallbearers were Ed Black, Floyd Yarbrough, Clyde Horn, Paulie Thompson, Hays Cox and Ernest Jones. Corley Funeral Home Directed arrangements. Additional Comments: Thomas Jefferson was born Feb. 10,1863 and died Aug. 26,1941. He was the son of Thomas D. Scroggins and Mary E.Lewis. He married Priscilla Norry Phillips on December 25, 1887. They had eight children, Ira, Agnes, Eugene, Vennie, Eva L., Lee, Murle M., Ervin W.. He was a Farmer most of his life and worked the Cotton Mill in Corsicana in his later years. He married Kittie Cummins after Mary Elizabeth passed away in 1907. He married once more to Mary Ann Gurganus Clay after Kittie passed away. He raised seven children from these marriages, Lusie Cummins, Alex Cummins, C.L. Clay, C.W. Clay and three other daughters.
