Rev. Shane Green, Rev. Teresa Edwards, and Rev. Dianne Sweckard will officiate. The family will greet friends at Forest Hills United Methodist Church from 10:30 - 11:00 am on Wednesday. Burial will be private. - Born in Corsicana, TX, he was the son of the late Frederick A. Wernette and Bertha Rouse Wernette of Corpus Christi, TX. He was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and the Grace Bible Sunday School class (who are requested to sit together at the memorial service). He retired from Federal Civil Service in December 1982, as a Supervisory Budget Analyst for the HQ Air Force Reserve, Robins AFB, GA. Upon retirement, he was presented the Meritorious Civil Service Award for the Air Force, and the Special Air Force Reserve Comptroller Award for outstanding service. He attended public schools in Ft Worth, TX, graduating from R.L. Paschal High School in June 1940. He attended North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington, TX. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in October 1942 during WW II and served until January 1946. He graduated from Palmer Chiropractic School on the GI Bill in 1949 and practiced a short time in Corpus Christi, TX. He was recalled to active duty in the Air Force during the Korean War. -Survivors include his wife of fifty six years, Barbara A. Wernette, and children, Major Michael D. (Sue) Wernette, Sr, USAF, Retired, of Bartlett NH, and Patti W. Hobbs of Macon GA; brother, Fred A. Wernette, Tyler, TX; sisters Lois W. Newberry, Lagarto , TX and JoAnn W. (Don) King, Corpus Christi, TX; grandchildren, Michael D. Wernette, Jr and Kate M. Wernette, of Iowa City, IA; three great grandchildren, Michael D. Wernette, III, Jory A. Wernette, and Casey Lee R. Wernette, of Iowa City, IA; sister-in- law, Kay McGehee (Tom); 8 nieces and 7 nephews; and his loyal and faithful companion, Andy his canine nurse. -In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hills Road, Macon GA 31210 or Heartland Hospice, 115 Arkwright Road, Macon GA 31210. -Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery has charge of the arrangements.
