His grandparents were Joseph E. and Mary Ann(Swearingen)Knowles. This photo is part of a series of Midway Church Cemetery tombstones. All of those in the series are believed to have connections to Joseph E. Knowles, who was born in Bladen NC. Joseph lived in Dooly(1840) and Baker(1850)counties in Georgia. Before February 1853, he had moved to Dallas Co. AL where he was tried for murder. He was sent to the Alabama penitentiary in March 1855, but by 1860 he was in Claiborne Parish LA. About 1866 or 1867, he moved to Navarro Co.
