Lena May Woodland

She was the daughter of John Walton Woodland and Etta
Sumner, and she lived in Texas her entire life

Lena May Woodland's mother is Etta Sumner, born 1879 in
Dresden, Navarro County, Texas. Etta's father, James Luther
Sumner, was born in New Madrid, Missouri, and her mother,
mother, Allie Drusilla Melton, came from Georgia and North
Carolina. Allie's grandfather sired Eliel Melton, died
fighting at the Alamo.

Etta married John Walton Woodland, whose family had long
since settled in Navarro County, and I believe they were
farmers and cattle ranchers. They lived in Dresden, the only
town with a post office for many miles. Today not much
remains of the town except for the old Methodist Church and
the pioneer Dresden Cemetery, where Etta, John, and Lena May
and her family are buried. Lena May's daughter, Donna
Richardson Hollingsworth, lives right across the street from
the Cemetery on the old cattle ranch which Lena may and her
husband, John Clayton Richardson, ran for many years.
