Go west 1.7 miles to a dirt road on the right. Turn right and go 2.8 miles until you come to another dirt road on the right. Turn right and go 1.2 miles until the road dead ends in front of a house. The cemetery is on the right. The day I went the cemetery was covered by tall grass and bushes. The cemetery is located on private property owned by the Marze family. Partial inventory of cemetery: Jones Family “Henry Lee Jones, Jr. Mar 4, 1889 Nov 5, 1912” “Emma Jones Brents Apr. 27, 1895 May 12, 1912” “Mother Mahaley Caroline (Clark) Jones 1863 – 1940” “H. L. Jones, Sr. May 3, 1858 Jan 31, 1899” This is Henry Lee Jones. There were two markers for him. The older marker says, “In Memory of H. L. Jones husband of M. C. Jones Born May 3, 1858 Died Jan 31, 1899 Aged 41 years 8 months & 28 days. Asleep in [unknown word] blessed sleep.” “In Memory of L. P. Jones son of H. L. & M. C. Jones born Aug 16, 1883 Died Feb 19, 1886 Gone but not forgotten.” Fields Family: “Joseph Fields born May 10, 1887 died Dec 2, 1907” He has a Woodsman of the World marker. This tall marker has fallen down and is in two pieces. Per family story, he died in a logging accident. “In Memory of Rebecca daughter of J. F. Fields born March 9, 1884 died Nov 15, 1888 Aged 4 years 8 Mon 8 days. Asleep in Jesus.” “In memory of Gustas son of J. F. & E. L. Fields born April 23, 1886 died Nov 17, 1888 Aged 2 years 7 Mon & 6 Days Gone to heaven.” “In memory of Lucy daughter of J. F. & E. L. Fileds Born March 17, 1891 died April 25, 1891 Aged 1 month 8 days. Budded on earth to bloom in heaven.” “In memory of James Evvey daughter of J. F. & E. L. Fields Born May 5, 1896 died Octo 15, 1902. Suffer the little children to come unto me forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” This child is listed on the 1900 census as “Eva J. Fields” All five of these children were the children of James Franklin Fields and Emma L. Jones Fields. Rebecca and Gustus died a couple of days apart, indicating that they died of some contagious disease going around at that time. Possibly yellow fever? Stephenson Family: “In Memory of Clumbis Alvin son of O. H. & M. Stephenson Born May 5, 1892 Died Sept 29, 1892 Aged 4 Mon 24 Ds Budded on earth to bloom in heaven.” He is probably the son of Oliver H. (Hobson?) and Malone Stephenson buried in the Stephenson cemetery off of highway 87. “In Memory of Zader daughter of O. H. & M. Stephenson born Feb 2, 1891 Died March 12, 1891 Aged 1 mon 10 days. Asleep in Jesus” Other families – there were several graves for the Shepherd family and Wright family – perhaps 10 in all. Then there were about 3 others of different names.
