Fortner, prominent Sweetwater resident, who died Sunday in Lubbock, will be held in the Sweetwater First Methodist church. Officiating will be Dr. Marshall Rhew, pastor, and Dr. J. Edmond Kirby, of Abilene, a former pastor. The body will be taken to Whitewright for burial int he family plot following graveside rites Wednesday. Cate-Spencer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The body will be taken to Earnhart Funeral home in Whitewright where it will lie in state. The Abilene Reporter Newws Saturday, December 6, 1960 Funeral for Mrs. Amos H. Fortner, who died Sunday in Lubbock was held in the Sweetwater First Methodist church. Burial will be in the family burial plot at Whitewright following graveside services. Cate-Spencer Funeral home had charge of local arrangements. At Whitewright arrangements are being handled by Earnhart Funeral Home. Officiating at the Sweetwater service were Dr. Marshall Rhew, pastor of the First Methodist church and Dr. J. Edmund Kirby of Abilene, former pastor. Mrs. Fortner was born Martha Bryant, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Bryant in Whitewright. She was reared there and attended the former Kidd Key college at Sherman and CIA, now Texas Women's University at Denton. She married Dr. A.H. Fortner in Whitewright in 1915 and after a short period in Dallas, the Fortners came to Sweetwater in 1916. They had lived here continuously since then except for the time Dr. Fortner spent with the Army during World War 1 when they lived in San Diego, CA. She was a longtime member of the Sorosis Study Club, a leder in First Methodist church work for many years, and at one time active in the state medical auxilliary. She was widely known as an authority on, and collector of, antiques. Surviving: her husband, of the family hoe at 311 Elm St.; 1 daughter - Mrs. Rob "Nancy" Prentiss of Vienna, VA; 3 grandchildren - Martha, Gloria and Paul Prentiss. C.B. Bryant, Jr., who was president of Sweetwater National Bank before his death in March, 1959, was a brothre of Mrs. Fortner.
