Coles Corpus Christi Newspaper Obituary Citation Name: Bell, Robert Louis Date: 16 January 1986 Caller Page 12D Funeral Program Final Christian Rites for Mr. Robert Louis Bell Sr. were conducted Wednesday January 22, 1986 at 1:00 PM from Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Waco at Chipito Street, Corpus Christi, TX with Rev. Elliott Grant, Pastor, officiating. Robert Louis Bell, Sr. was born February 22, 1922 to Mr. & Mrs. Sinclair Bell in Shiner, TX. His early childhood was spent in Shiner. He came to live in Corpus Christi while still a youth & attended Solomon M. Coles where he graduated. He later attended Del Mar College, 1 of 4 Blacks accomplishing this feat. He received an Associate of Arts Degree. He later attended Bishop College, where he sang in the "B Sharp Club." Robert had a most beautiful voice, he sang in the Youth Choir at Saint Matthew, the church he united with as a youngster, & later directed the Senor Choir; he sang in various pageants & for other functions around the city. While in Los Angeles, CA he was in the popular group, the "Norman Aires." He was always smiling & never hesitated to render song service upon request. Robert was with the Postal Service for quite a number of years. He employed by CCISD & also worked as a clerk at Air Tools, Inc. in Los Angeles. He entered into eternal rest in January 1986 in Los Angeles. Robert was united in holy wedlock to Miss Myrtle Esther Washington & they became parents of 4 children who survive, 2 daughters, Mrs. Patsy Annette Spears, Mrs. Vickie Rene Stonum of Corpus Christi; 2 sons, Robert Truxton Bell of Houston, TX; & Robert Louis Bell, III with the United States Coast Guard stationed in Virginia; 8 grandchildren; 2 aunts, Mrs. Peggy Tealer, Mrs. Ethel Ross of Los Angeles, cousins, & their relatives. Pallbearers were James M. Wagner, Clayburn Booker, Major Stewart, Sr., Melvin Howard, Leslie Johnson, & Elvin Marshall. Honorary Pallbearers were Joe Emanuel, Lonzo Bryant, Sr., Everett Douglas, Oscar Sweat, Barron Marcee, Alex Alexander, & Lloyd Pullam.
