Marie Beatrice Garcia Childers went to our Lord Sunday, March 2, 2008. She was 
born Dec. 18, 1918, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She is preceded in death by her 
parents, numerous brothers, sisters and her husband of 34 years, Lt. Houston 
Joseph Childers, Navy (retired), who passed away July 13, 1984. She leaves 
behind daughters Pamela E. Hall, of Alamogordo, and Yvette Childers, of Plano, 
Texas; Fred E. Wallis, of Alamogordo; grandsons Joseph M. Applewhite of 
Houston, Jesse C. Childers, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Matthew T. Hall, of 
Gadsden, Ala., and granddaughter Amelia Marie Hall, of Gadsden, Ala.; one great-
granddaughter, Piper Applewhite, of Houston; brothers Gilberto Garcia and wife, 
Rose, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Paul Salinas and wife, Toni, of Victoria, 
Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. 
She was a very devoted Catholic, wife and mother. She will be sorely missed by 
her family and friends. Always giving and never taking, her heart was always 
open to listen to others. Marie was a dedicated and supportive military wife 
who inspired adaptability and courage in those who knew her. Prior to her 
passing, she endured with exemplary courage the effects of rheumatoid 
arthritis. Never complaining but accepting her own illness, she was truly a 
living, breathing prayer. There is no greater tribute that could be given her 
than this. 
Recitation of the rosary will be at 5:15 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, and will 
be followed immediately by a funeral Mass at St. Jude's Chapel, 1404 College 
Lane, Alamogordo, NM 88310. Interment will be with her husband in Arlington 
National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. 
Cremation will take place locally at PCS entrusted to the care of Alamogordo 
Funeral Home.
