Enid was born July 7, 1921, in Corpus Christi, Texas, and spent her early childhood years on a ranch. She later lived in Austin, Texas, and eventually earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Texas. In Austin, she met her husband-to-be, Victor Davis, at a USO dance in 1944. He was serving in the Army-Air Corps as a pilot during World War II and was stationed at Bergstrom Field. Enid and Victor were married in Austin on March 23, 1945. When the war ended, Enid worked in the university registrar's office while Victor attended college. After Victor graduated in 1949, he and Enid joined his brothers, Floyd and Newell, in a business venture in Ketchikan, Alaska-Totem Air Service, a nonscheduled airline with routes between Ketchikan, Sitka, Petersburg, Wrangell, and Seattle. Enid handled multiple job duties, with the title of office manager. After Totem Air Service was sold to Northern Consolidated Airlines, Enid and Victor moved to Anchorage, where he was employed by Northern Consolidated. They raised two daughters, Laurel and Sherry. "Enid had a sharp intellect and lively personality, and pursued varied interests," her family recalled. "She was an avid gardener and reader, enjoyed playing bridge, and had a keen interest in politics, from the local to the national level. She was always ready for an animated political discussion. After their daughters were grown, Enid and Victor traveled to far-flung destinations such as Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Germany and Africa. They also enjoyed traveling within the United States to visit friends and relatives and to attend Air Force Association events. "Above all, Enid felt her most important role was that of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She supported her children's interests and let them know that they could do and be anything in life that they chose. She was thrilled to become a grandmother and recently became a great-grandmother. Enid was a vital and remarkable person who touched the lives of family members and friends. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend special thanks to the compassionate caregivers of Senior Care of Alaska." Enid is survived by her husband, Victor Davis; daughters, Laurel Davis and companion Phil MacAfee, and Sherry and husband Rick Kimmons; grandchildren and spouses, Adam and Mary Sparrs and Dana and William Alexander; great- grandchildren, Savannah Sparrs and Kyla Alexander; brother, Franklin Dixon; sister-in-law, Barbara Dixon; and nephew, Craig Dixon. Condolences may be sent to the family at 2317 Turnagain Parkway, Anchorage 99517. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Alaska or to a charity of the donor's choice.
