Humphreys, wife of T.B. Humphreys, peacefully passed away Sept. 30, 1898, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Lucy Brannon in Santo. She had been afflicted for a number of months with consumption and other troubles combined. She leaves an aged husband, and several children and grandchildren besides a host of friends to morn her departure. She was born Aug. 9, 1840, in Red River Co., this state.(Texas) In this county she met and married her husband, who survives her. From Red River Co they moved to this county in 1858. They were among the early settlers of this Co., and have endured many trials and hardships which always follows the settling of a new country, but they have braved the tempest tossed world. All that knew her realize that the world was made better by her being here. She professed religion in 1871, and joined the church, and as all know that lived near her, she lived a conscientious Christian. She was a sweet, spirited, kind, and affectionate follower of Him, who she has gone to live with. She lived a noble life while here and the good she done will follow after her. All through her great affliction, which she has borne so nobly, she never forgot her blessed master. She learned to call on Him in time of plenty and she fully knew she had to call and He would answer in time of trouble. She realized she was a child of God and did not hesitate to call on her Master for sustaining grace in the hour of death. After she had borne her troubles seemingly to the last she realized she was about to be taken home she called her life companion to her beside and told him that she had that old time religion, the religion that Paul and Silas had, and she spoke of her eternal home in many instances and entreated those around her to live for God and meet………….
