David Craig, a rich planter, while coming to this place with a load of cotton, was waylaid and shot by his neighbor, James Lyle. The assassin used a shotgun and discharging both barrels at Craig, one charge entering the head and the other the chest in the region of the heart, killing Craig instantly. The killing is the result of an old feud. Lyle has escaped, and it is feared that he has such a start that he will never be overtaken.
