Headline: R.N. Hammons Funeral Held
Funeral services were held at 3 pm Tuesday at New Prospect Presbyterian 
Church, Beckville, for Robert Neal Hammons, 69, who died at Panola Hospital at 
10 a.m. Sunday after a short illness, although he had been in ill health 
previously.  A native of the county, Mr Hammons was a painter by profession.  
Officiating at the service were the Rev. C. T. Wallace, retired Methodist 
minister, and the Rev. D. S. Neal, Presbyterian minister of Timpson. Burial, 
under direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home, was in the New Prospect Cemetery, 
Beckville. Nephews of the deceased served as pallbearers. Surviving are his 
wife, Mrs. Ollie Hammons of Carthage, two sons, James H. Hammons of Carthage 
and R.K. Hammons of Anacortes, Washington; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Neal 
Phillips of Houston, a brother, Grady Hammons of Carthage, one sister, Mrs. 
Lemma Shivers of Longview, and seven grandchildren.
