All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************************* Grandma Carey Mrs. Caroline Carey, the mother of C.C. and Horace Baker, of this city, after attending the funeral of Mrs. Horace Baker Wednesady afternoon, was taken suddenly ill Thursay morning about 2 oÕclock and died in the evening at 8:30. Conjestion of the lungs is given as the cause of death. The deceased was 85 years of age. She was born in Stunnington, Connecticut, and came to Texas at the age of 16, shortly after Texas had thrown off the Mexican yoke and become a republic. She was married in Texas, and, with her husband, contributed much to the making of the state what it is. After some years she removed to Wisconsin, and returned to Texas about 30 years ago. Some 23 years of that time she has lived in Wisconsin. She was a more than ordinarily intellectual woman, and her long career is full of historic interest. She was a good neighbor, kind hearted and charitable. Her loss is mourned by all who knew her. The funeral will occur tomorrow [Saturday] afternoon at 2:30.
