Michael was born in Amarillo. He attended Western Plateau Elementary School. Joseph Michael Gipson Joseph Michael Gipson, infant son of Evonne Gipson of Amarillo, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Howard Romaine, pastor of New Zion Baptist Church at Borger, officiating. Arrangements are by Warford-Walker Mortuary. Schumacher CANYON - Lena M. Schumacher, 76, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Shawn Smith, of Olsen Park Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Schumacher was born in Decatur. She attended schools in Decatur and Spearman, graduating from Spearman High School in 1938. She had lived in Amarillo for several years before moving to Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Willison, N.D. She moved to Pampa in 1961. She had worked for Alco / Duckwall in Pampa for 10 years, retiring in 1982. She moved to Canyon after retirement. She was a member of Olsen Park Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Connie Ward of Belmont, Calif., and Judy Schumacher of Elizabeth, Colo.; two sons, William Schumacher of Lubbock and Richard Schumacher of Rochester, N.Y.; a brother, Ruben Deering of Los Angeles; two sisters, Jewell Parnell and Anne Glover, both of Pampa; and seven grandchildren. The family will be at 2615 17th Ave. and requests memorials be to Olsen Park Church of Christ. New Mexico Georgie Owen FORREST, N.M. - Georgie Owen, 82, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Forrest Community Church with Fred Caton officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Plains Cemetery, near Forrest, by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mrs. Owen was born in Puerto and had been a life long resident of Quay County. She and her husband had been active in ranching and farming near Forrest for many years. She was a member of Forrest Community Church, Forrest Senior Citizens and Forrest Ladies Extension Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Owen, in 1979. Survivors include a son, Stan Owen of McAlister; a daughter, Carolyn Percival of Grand Junction, Colo.; a stepson, Harold Owen of Tucumcari; five sisters, Opal Austin and Dorothy Gill, both of Tucumcari, Emma Daniels of Taft, Calif., Floy Lentford of Idaho and Lois Wise of Bakersfield, Calif.; a brother, Roy Griggs of Austin; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Mrs. Brannon was born in Collin County, Texas. She moved with her family to Sedan in 1920 and she married Walter Holland in 1922. They lived in Texline until his death in 1940. She moved to Clayton in 1941 and worked at JC Penney for 16 years. She married Otis Brannon in 1944. She had been a member of Clayton Garden Club, Twentieth Century Club, Eastern Star and Clayton Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Cremation will be by Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield. Mr. Parrish was born in Moran. He moved to Sudan in 1923, where he farmed. He married Lila Lee Thomas in 1940 at Wellington. He was a member of Sudan Senior Citizens. Survivors include his wife; a son, James Arnold Parrish of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Linda Rogene Powell of Sudan and Cynthia Kay Reeves of Bells; two brothers, Nolan Parrish of Sudan and Arnold Parrish of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Austin was born in Canadian. She moved to Yellville, Ark., where she graduated from high school. She married Boyd Austin in 1949 at Wellington. They moved to Wheeler in 1959. She owned and operated City Cleaners from 1962 until 1972. She had also worked for Pierce¹s Trading Post for eight years. She was currently employed by Outreach Home Health. She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; a son, Lynn Austin of Fritch; a daughter, Lois Carol Puryear of Wheeler; a sister, Ruth Canaday of Shidler, Okla.; and four grandsons. The family requests memorials be to Golden Spread Hospice of Wellington. Leatha Lee Jenkins MEMPHIS - Leatha Lee Jenkins, 76, died Friday, Dec. 6, 1996. Mrs. Jenkins was born in Servis County, Ark. She moved to the Hall County community in the early 1940s. She had been employed with the Home Health Care Program before retiring in 1990. Snelson CLARENDON - R.D. Snelson, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 1996. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Citizens Cemetery with the Rev. Mr. Snelson was born in Knox City and had lived in Hedley most of his life before moving to Hermosa, S.D., in August. He had been a baker most of his career before retiring in 1980. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist. Survivors include a daughter, Lee Clarambeau of Hermosa, S.D.; four sons, Billy D. Snelson of Los Lunas, N.M., Danny Snelson, Dale Snelson and David Snelson, all of Amarillo; and seven grandchildren. Velma E. Jones BORGER - Velma E. Jones, 66, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the new Riverview Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Gillmore officiating and the Rev. Jimmy Johnson assisting. Burial will be in Stinnett Cemetery at Stinnett by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Jones was born in Honey Grove and had lived in the Fritch area since 1944. She was a homemaker and a member of Riverview Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafts as a hobby. She was a member of Phillips Ladies Golf Association. She married Jack Jones in 1949 at Borger. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Freida Goodwin, and a granddaughter, Samone Goodwin. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Paula Jones of Lubbock; and two sisters, Edna Lee Rannals of Borger and Ina Mae Bowden of Paris, Texas. Mrs. Macdonald was born in Guthrie, Okla. She graduated from Marland High School at Marland, Okla., and attended Tonkawa College at Tonkawa, Okla. She had lived in Pampa since 1971. She married Rod Macdonald in 1972 at Pampa; he died in 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of Briarwood Church. Survivors include two brothers, Hubert McMonigle of Ponca City, Okla., and Raymond McMonigle of Fort Worth; three sisters, Della Mae Chiasson of Orange and Bonnie Rollins and Jettavee McClaskey, both of Ponca City. Carl Hadley FRIONA - Carl Hadley, 87, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Friona Cemetery with Gerall Wyly officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Hadley was born in Childress. He had lived in Friona since 1933, moving from Childress. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Caris Larkin Abernathy PLAINVIEW - Caris Larkin "C.L." Abernathy, 89, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Wood-Dunning Funeral Home Colonial Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart, of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by WoodDunning Funeral Home. Mr. Abernathy was born in Waco. He married Hazel Cline in 1928 at Santa Ana, Calif. He was an insurance agent, real estate broker and abstracter in Hollis, Okla., and Plainview. He had served in the Army during World War II. He was mayor of Plainview from 1954 until 1956 and Hale County judge from 1959 until 1971. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and a member of Arch Keys Lodge. He was active on state and local levels with mental health and mental retardation, working with the MHMR Center as an independent consultant. He was criminal justice planner-coordinator of the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission at Amarillo, serving all of the Texas Panhandle area. He was a member of and served as an officer and director of the Rotary Club; chamber of commerce; Plainview Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons; Hale County Senior Citizens¹ Center; Nine County Council on Alcohol Abuse; Panhandle Association of County Judges and Commissioners; West Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association; Bethesda Manor, Inc.; American Association of Retired People; and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Patricia Abernathy, in March. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Betty Jane Crow of Plainview and Carolyn Rankin of Pecos; a sister, Bettie Ricketson of Shawnee, Okla.; a brother, E.L. Abernathy of Laguna Hills, Calif; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Otho R. Stubbs TURKEY - Otho R. Stubbs, 89, formerly of Turkey, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996, in McCamey. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Clinton, pastor, officiating and Delos Johnson, minister of Quitaque Church of Christ, assisting. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mr. Stubbs was born in Cranfils Gap. He moved to Turkey with his family at age 4. He was a cotton farmer, artist, florist, amateur archaeologist and wood craftsman. He had served in the Fifth Armored Division of the Army during World War II. He had served in combat beginning at Normandy Beach until the end of the war. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Buchenwald Liberation. He received the Bronze Star Medal, and was cited for outstanding service above the call of duty. He was a Boy Scout master. His home was a museum and art studio, which many people visited. He collected Indian artifacts and memorabilia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ola B. Stubbs, in 1968. He married Dr. Dora Crandall in 1984 at Turkey. She is a family physician with the Upton County Hospital District at McCamey. Survivors include his wife; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Ginger Morgan. Edna S. Wooldridge STINNETT - Edna S. Wooldridge, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Gordoa and the Rev. Orville Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mrs. Wooldridge was born in Ravia, Okla., and had lived in the Stinnett area for 50 years. She was a retired operator at Phillips Communication Center. She was a Baptist and a member of Jane Phillips Sorority. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lee Wooldridge, and a daughter, Sherry Wooldridge. Survivors include a son, Bobby Joe Wooldridge of El Paso; two daughters, Donna Sissel of Stinnett and Annabelle Davis of Temple, Okla.; a brother, E.C. Price of Stinnett; two sisters, Bobbie Cain of Fort Worth and Mickey Bosnak of Granbury; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home until service time on Tuesday.
