Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mrs. Bynum was raised around Wynnewood, Okla., and moved to Borger in 1939. She moved to Amarillo in 1940 and worked for Blackburn Brothers Ladies Wear. She retired in 1969. She was a Methodist. She married Loy W. Bynum in 1962 at Amarillo. He died in 1992. She also was preceded in death by a son, James Nelson Norman, in 1990. Survivors include a son, Robert A. Norman of Winslow, Ark.; a stepson, David E. Bynum of Clayton, N.M.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will be at 6102 Dreyfuss Drive. Mary Sarah Howard Mary Sarah "Logan" Howard, 49, of 2600 S. Travis St., died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at 2600 S. Travis St. Cremation and arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Howard was born in Denver. She moved to Amarillo in 1990 from Clovis, N.M. She married Robert Howard in 1973 at Amarillo. She graduated from St. Maryıs Catholic School of Amarillo. She then graduated from West Texas State University with a bachelorıs degree and from Eastern New Mexico University with a masterıs degree. She was a junior high teacher in the Clovis school district for 15 years. She was a member of the New Mexico Teachers Association. She was Catholic. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sarah Virginia Smoot and Emily Elizabeth Howard, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Delia Teal and Cathie Carroll, both of Amarillo; and a grandchild. Jesse Ely Newberry Jr. Jesse Ely "Pete" Newberry Jr., 93, of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996. Morgan, 81, of 4707 Bell St., Apt. No. 112, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1933. He began working as a surveyor for Santa Fe Railway and later was an engineer for the construction of the Monsanto plant in Texas City. He moved to Pampa in 1952 and worked for the Celanese Corp. He was an engineer for them before retiring in 1982. He graduated from West Texas State University in 1975 with a degree in economics. He married Mattie Wave Grammer in 1939 at Amarillo. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Pampa. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cynthia Annette Cohen of Santa Clara, Calif.; a son, Hugh Douglas Morgan of San Jose, Calif.; and five grandchildren. The family will be at 4707 Bell St., Apt. 112, and requests memorials be to the Book of Remembrance at First Presbyterian Church, 525 N. Gray, Pampa, Texas 79065. Mrs. Skorepa was born in New Mexico and had lived in the Clovis for the past 40 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Tony Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery at Portales. Mr. Chilton was born in Frederick, Okla. He had farmed in the Elida area for more than 50 years. He married Cordelia Rogers in 1927. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church at Portales. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jimmie Lou Manasco of Clovis; a son, Ralph Chilton of Stillwater, Okla.; two brothers, Billie Chilton of Las Cruces and Leslie Chilton of Mountainair; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Baptist Childrenıs Home at Portales. Kenneth L. Rayburn CLOVIS, N.M. - Kenneth L. Rayburn, 48, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996. Military honors will be by the Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Rayburn was born in Richland, Wash. He served in the Air Force from 1968 until retiring in 1988. He had served a tour in Vietnam. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3015. He married Frances Vela in 1970 at Clovis. He received an associateıs degree in retail marketing from Clovis Community College. He was working for Don Vela Jr. Construction. Elsewhere Mack Edwin Kilgore VERNON - Mack Edwin Kilgore, 86, a former longtime Amarillo resident, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Eastview Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. O.C. Harper officiating. Arrangements are by Sullivan Funeral Home. Mr. Kilgore was born in Sherman. He lived in Vernon until 1937 when he moved to Big Spring. He then moved to Pecos and later to Amarillo, where he lived for more than 40 years. He worked in the oil fields from 1928 until 1931. He worked for Affiliated Foods while living in Amarillo. After retiring, he returned to Vernon. He was a member of Vernon Central Christian Church and of the Elks Lodge of Amarillo. He married Lacy M. Bomar in 1934 at Altus, Okla. She died in 1987. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Ratliff. Survivors include two grandchildren, Laura Haynes of Illinois and David Ratliff of Amarillo; and a nephew, Alan Kilgore of Tyler; and three great-grandchildren. Nova McGuire Robertson MOUNTAIN VIEW, Mo. - Nova McGuire Robertson, 77, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday in Duncan Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Wayne Wood officiating. Burial was in Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Robertson was born in the Oklahoma Lane community, outside of Farwell, Texas. She married Charles Robertson in 1941 at Amarillo. He died in 1988. She raised her family in El Paso, Texas. She retired with her husband in Mountain View. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Stricklin and Martha Gallion; a sister, Lois Billingsly of Oklahoma Lane; a brother, James McGuire of Lubbock, Texas; and three grandchildren. Oklahoma Arra E. Lowry WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Arra E. Lowry, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996, at Oklahoma City. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Church of Christ with Bruce Lewis and Ritchie Hamm officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery by Lockstone Funeral Home. Mrs. Lowry was born and raised in Amarillo. She attended school in Amarillo and graduated in 1938. She attended nursing school at St. Anthonyıs Hospital in Amarillo. She married Orlan J. Lowry in 1943 at McAlester. They lived in Altus and Carlsbad, N.M., before returning to Amarillo, where they lived from 1952 to 1975. While in Amarillo, she was a school nurse. In 1975 they moved to Weatherford. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was active in the PEO, American Association of Retired Persons and NARFE. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Tim Lowry of Weatherford and Jay Lowry of Fayetteville, Ark.; a daughter, Karen Tilley of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, J.P. Burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery at Wheatland, N.M. Mrs. Johnson was born in Twitty. She graduated from high school at Endee, N.M. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. She lived in Dumas from 1953 until 1978. While living in Dumas, she was active with the Rebekah Lodge. In 1980, she moved to Claude and was active in the Home Demonstration Club. She married Curtis L. Johnson in 1978 at Tucumcari, N.M. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Nancy Elizabeth Stout of Hamilton and Vickie K. Keith of Amarillo; a son, Ronnie Keith Cogdill of Canadian; a stepdaughter, Susie OıNeal of Boston; two brothers, L.H. McElroy of Clinton, Ark., and Jimmy McElroy of Fox, Ark.; two sisters, Dorothy Roberts of Fox and Sammy Payton of Albany, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Edward Nicholas Schaffner SHAMROCK - Edward Nicholas Schaffner, 90, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Cole, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Schaffner was born in Butler, Pa., and moved to Cross Plains in 1920. He worked in the oil business with his father until moving to Shamrock in 1939. He operated D&S Cleaners for 39 years. After retiring from the dry cleaning business he assisted Howard Weatherby as a surveyor. He married Ethel Longbotham in 1931 at Abilene. He was active in the Rotary Club for many years and had near-perfect attendance. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church and was involved in many areas of the church including building maintenance. He was a member of the Shamrock Fire Department for 30 years and served as fire chief for many of those years. He also was a volunteer ambulance driver. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Barbara Coleman of Canyon; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Marjorie Fisher Mims HEREFORD - Marjorie Fisher Mims, 75, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Fuller, pastor, and Dr. Clifford Trotter officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mrs. Mims was born in Houston and moved to Deaf Smith County in 1952 from Dallas. She married Arthur Trow Mims in 1942 at Houston. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Charles Arthur Mims of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, and Edward Trow Mims of Agoura, Calif.; a daughter, Ann Offutt of Dumas; and five grandsons. Jay McGaughy, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Stewart was born in Chillicothe and had been a Dumas resident since 1951. He retired in 1981 as a truck driver for Diamond Shamrock. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a longtime member of the Dumas Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He married Lou Lee in 1951 at Vernon. He was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Stewart, in 1976. Ms. Denton was born in Plainview. She grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School. She taught piano and accordian lessons in Plainview for 65 years. She was a Baptist. She married William Winfree in 1930 at Portales, N.M. He died in 1942. Survivors include a son, David Denton of Plainview; a sister, Ruth Oswald of Plainview; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Gilberto Aguero PLAINVIEW - Gilberto Aguero, 104, of Hobbs, N.M., formerly of Plainview, died Friday, Dec. 6, 1996. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Ben Kasteel of the church officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mr. Aguero was born in Eagle Pass and grew up in Uvalde. He lived in Plainview many years ago and moved to Hobbs in 1987. He was a farm laborer. He married Juana Gallegos Aguero at San Angelo. She died in 1984. Survivors include two daughters, Deloris Ledesma of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Vivian Borgas of Plainview; a son, Gilberto Aguero Jr. of Hobbs; 18 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-great-grandchildren. Venus King HALE CENTER - Venus Horton King, 94, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Plainview Memorial Park with the Rev. John Erwin of First United Methodist Church and Silas Short of Post officiating. Arrangements are by Freeman Funeral Home. Mrs. King was born in Clark County, Iowa. Her family moved to the Hale Center area in 1909. She graduated from Hale Center High School in 1920 and attended West Texas State College. She married Erskine King in 1928 at Hale Center. He died in 1959. She taught school at Hale Center, Cotton Center, Petersburg, Lakeview, Wise and Wichita Falls. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was secretary there for several years. Survivors include two sisters, Gladys Whitacre of Plainview and Minnie Struve of Abernathy. Sue Iola Millar PLAINVIEW - Sue Iola Smith Millar, 94, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell, Okla., with R.B. Mathis, pastor of First Baptist Church of Cordell, officiating. Arrangements are by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mrs. Millar was born in Cordell and educated in the Cordell schools. She married Harry Millar in 1957 at Oklahoma. He died in 1976. She moved from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Sun City, Ariz., in 1959. She moved to Plainview in 1990. She was a salesperson for ladies apparel and a homemaker. She also was an artist. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Dolores Fabiani of Isola dıElba, Italy; and a sister, Edith Boatright of Plainview. C.A. Howell PLAINVIEW - C.A. "Mike" Howell, 84, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996. Arrangements are by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Howell was born in Marshall. He moved to Plainview in 1951 from Meadow. He was a farmer and a member of Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ. He married Maggie Pearl "Babe" Nance in 1934 at Knox City. She died in 1988. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials be to Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ. James Richard Brandon CLARENDON - James Richard Brandon, 94, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. James Bell, pastor, officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in Citizens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. Mr. Brandon was born in Nolan County. He was a resident of Chillicothe before moving to Clarendon in 1917. He married Hazel Devota Cole in 1936 at Clarendon. He served in the Army in 1921. He was a cotton gin manager for Foxall and Paymaster before retiring in 1962. He was a 62-year member and a past worshipful master of the Clarendon Masonic Lodge No. 700. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was active in the J.R. Porter Sunday school class and had served on several church committees. Survivors include his wife. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc., of Clarendon. Mr. Obrecht was born in Panhandle and lived there until moving to Claude in 1952. He married Mary Elizabeth Chapman in 1937 at Hereford. He was a farmer and a stockman most of his life. He was the past president of the Claude Co-op and had served on the Panhandle school board and the FHA board in Panhandle. He was a member of the Claude Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a son, William Monroe Obrecht, in 1965. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ted Maple of Ulysses, Kan.; a sister, Dora Moore of Amarillo; a brother, Francis Obrecht of Panhandle; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Velma V. Adams CHILDRESS - Velma V. Adams, 89, a former Childress resident, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996, in Grand Prairie. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Mrs. Adams was born in Olympus and lived in Lonnie and Olympus until her family moved into Childress in 1964. She lived in Childress until 1984, when she moved to Hillsboro. In 1985, she moved to Mount Pleasant and lived there for about a year before moving to Grand Prairie in 1994. She married Gordon A. Adams in 1924 at Hollis, Okla. He died in 1969. She also was preceded in death by a son, James B. Adams, in 1996. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist church. Survivors include two sons, Troy Adams of Arlington and Edwin A. Adams of Gustine, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Lois Faye Hudnall FARWELL - Lois Faye Hudnall, 80, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996. Services will be at 1 p.m. (MST) Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Portales, N.M., with the Rev. Randy Rankin, pastor, and the Rev. Bob Brown, pastor of First Baptist Church of Texico, N.M., officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens in Dimmitt. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mrs. Hudnall was born in Temple, Okla. She had been a resident of Farwell since 1974, moving from Texico. She married Harvey Hudnall in 1938 at Lazbuddie. He died in September. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Portales. Survivors include a son, Wayne Hudnall of Baton Rouge, La.; three daughters, Nancy Carol Warrick of Farwell, Janell Jordan and Sue Hannon, both of Portales; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Baptist Childrenıs Home of Portales.
