Mitchell CHILDRESS - J.T. Mitchell, 78, died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Mitchell was born in Childress and graduated from Childress High School. He married Maidelle Perkins in 1941 at Childress. He was a public school teacher for more than 30 years, having taught in Denver City from 1946 to 1983. He also farmed in Childress, Cottle and Hardeman counties from the 1950s to the 1980s. He was a partner in Harrison Well Service, Mustang Butane and Whitie's Service Station in Denver City. He was a member of the Methodist church in Denver City, where he was on the board of trustees and was a past chairman. He also taught Sunday school and was a member of the Methodist Men. During World War II, he was a navigation instructor for the Army Air Corps in Hondo. He also served in the Pacific and Guam. He was an instructor for the Navy in Chicago and Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife; a son, Truitt Mitchell of Sundown; two sisters, Lois Odom of Crosbyton and Dr. Brownie Kimbrough of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and three grandchildren. Aaron Dale Wilcox DIMMITT - Aaron Dale Wilcox, 16, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996. Services were at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Gressett, youth minister, officiating. Burial was in Castro Memorial Gardens by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mr. Wilcox was born in Dimmitt and had been a lifetime resident there. He was a sophomore at Dimmitt High School and a member of the varsity football and track teams. He also was a member of FFA, FHA, FCA, 4-H trap shooting and livestock showing. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his parents, Rick and Vada Wilcox of Dimmitt; a sister, Tiffany Wilcox of Dimmitt; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vaden Kirby of Dimmitt and Mr. and Mrs I.N. Wilcox of Muleshoe. Jeremy Davis MATADOR - Jeremy Davis, 23, of Bronte, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in Matador First Baptist Church with the Rev. Felton Gilmore, pastor, and the Rev. Rickey Lawrence, pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Roaring Springs, officiating. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Saturday in the city of Lubbock Cemetery. He graduated from Motley County High School in 1991 and attended Western Texas College in Snyder. Leila Bernice Litchfield HIGGINS - Leila Bernice Litchfield, 90, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wesley Holland, pastor, and the Rev. Monte Kreis, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Booker, officiating. Burial was in Higgins Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors of Canadian. Mrs. Litchfield was born in Benjamin, Mo. She was a lifelong resident of Higgins and graduated from Higgins High School. He married Verl D. Litchfield in 1928 at Higgins. He died in 1961. She also was preceded in death by a son, Don Litchfield, in 1993. She was a telephone operator for General Telephone Co. for several years. She also was a homemaker and a member of Higgins First United Methodist Church, the Busy Bee Quilting Club, TOPS Club and Lipscomb County Home Demonstration Club. For the past four years she had been a resident of Abraham Memorial Home in Canadian. She had lived in the Perryton area since 1930, moving from Beaver County, Okla. She married James Caldwell in 1930 at Alva, Okla. He died in 1988. She taught school in Beaver County and Perryton. She was a member of Full Gospel Church of Perryton. He served in the Marines during the Korean War. He was a farmer. He married Lanora Stroud in 1952 at Hollis, Okla. Roy L. Jordan LEFORS - Roy L. Jordan, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1996. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Assembly of God in Pampa with the Rev. Michael Moss, pastor, and Dewey Hutchins, deacon, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery at Lefors with Masonic graveside rites by Pampa Masonic Lodge No. 966 AF&AM. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Jordan was born in May, Okla. He moved to Perryton from May in 1941. He married Helen Ishmael in 1937 at Woodward, Okla. In 1943, they moved to Pampa and he began working for Carbon Black. They moved from Pampa to Lefors in 1950. He worked for Gray County for 15 years before retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Lefors volunteer fire department for 35 years and served as chief for part of that time. He was a member of Pampa Masonic Lodge No. 966 AF&AM and First Assembly of God in Pampa. He was co-owner and operator of the Furniture Barn from 1976 until he retired in 1989. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and served on the church board in the 1960s. Fagan in 1938 at Plainview; he died in 1983. She later married Amos Meador in 1988 at Pampa. She was a private piano teacher at Pampa for 50 years and was an organist at St. Paul United Methodist Church for more than 30 years. She was a member of First Church of Nazarene at Borger and a former member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Pampa. She was a member of Pampa Music Teachers Association and the Treble Leaf Club. He graduated from Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa, in 1941 and started his practice at 1223 Taylor St. in Amarillo that same year. He married Vadys ``Kit'' Carson in 1941 at Bovina. In 1943, he entered the Navy as a pharmacist's mate. He was discharged in 1945. He moved his practice to 1203 W. Sixth Ave. and specialized in grostic technique. During the 1950s he served as secretary and treasurer of the Chiropractic Society of Texas. He served for two terms as CST president from 1965 to 1967. He was a lifetime member of the CST and was awarded the CST Presidential Citation in 1976. In 1967 he was awarded the Distinguished Fellow of ICA, and in 1968 he was awarded the L. George Grupe Memorial Award and Chiropractor of the Year. He was commissioned an Admiral in 1971 in the Texas Navy. He was awarded the Who's Who in Texas in 1975. Dr. Peters was awarded the Sterling Pruitt Humanitarian Award in 1990 and the Life Service Award in 1994. He retired in 1996. He was editor of the Spinal Column and a member of the Church of Christ. He was a master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He also was a member of Ranchland Hills Country Club. Brill, 90, died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in McClure Chapel of First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Patman officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park by Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. Mrs. Brill was born in Ljubljanska, Yugoslavia, and had lived in Bella Vista since 1990, moving from Ardmore. She had previously lived in Gainesville, Texas, and Borger, Texas. She married Homer Brill in 1942 at New Orleans, La.; he died in 1982. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She had been owner of a motel and beauty shop. She was active in Order of the Eastern Star. She had attended the Mattie Bruce Chapter, was a member and past worthy matron of Belle Moon Chapter at Gainesville, and deputy grand matron of Order of Eastern Star at Texas. She had been a Red Cross swimming instructor while in Borger. Survivors include a son, David F. Kalister of Bella Vista, Ark.; three brothers, Joe Strovas of Greeley, Colo., Blaz Strovas of Borger and Louis Strovas of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Rose Felice of Westminster, Colo., Evelyn Schneider of Anaheim, Calif., Ann Skrzynear of Denver, Josephine Maltese of Lakewood, Colo., and Frances Pierce of Baton Rouge, La.; two grandsons; a granddaughter; and seven great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to First United Methodist Church Building Fund. Evelyn Jarnagin BIXBY, Okla. - Evelyn Jarnagin, 81, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Jarnagin was born in Cedar Hill, Texas. She married Melvin Jarnagin in 1933 at Roswell, N.M.; he died in 1963. She grew up in Dexter and graduated from Dexter High School. She moved to Heywood, Calif., in 1940, to Kress, Texas, in 1948, to Tulsa in 1969, then to Bixby in 1973. She was an avid bridge player. She had showings of her oil paintings at fairs and craft shows and she was a member of the quilting club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Dolores Ritter of Tulsa; a son, Jerry Jarnagin of Carlsbad, N.M.; two sisters, Lavon Mills of Farwell and Faye Garry of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
