Services will be planned at a later date by the family. Other arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mrs. Shockey was born in Princeton, Ala. She moved to Amarillo in 1974 from Fort Worth. She was a homemaker and a Protestant. She married Carl Shockey in 1923. He died in 1984. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Shockey of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The body will not be available for viewing. Everett Earl Marks Everett Earl Marks, 86, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Canyons Retirement Center Chapel with Gerald Kelley, chaplain, officiating. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Mr. Marks was born in Springfield, Mo. He began working as a surveyor for the Missouri Highway Department. He joined the Army in 1944 and served in the European Theater and in the guard unit for Gen. Dwight Eisenhower. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was discharged in 1946. He then began working as a bookkeeper for Burgner-Bowman Lumber Co. in Lebanon, Mo., and Kansas City, Mo. He retired to Springfield in 1976. Mr. Marks had lived in Amarillo for 24 years. He was a member of the Optimist Club and a volunteer for the Boys Scouts. He was a Methodist. He married Evelyn Robertson in 1935 at Mansfield, Mo. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Marks; two daughters, Judy Hess of Catoosa, Okla., and Nancy McCullough of Amarillo; a sister, Lucille Webb of Weslaco; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be to a favorite charity. The body will not be available for viewing. Donell Polley Donell Polley, 37, of Amarillo, was found Wednesday, July 23, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Liberty Church with the Rev. Jay Roberson, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Polley was born in Matador and had been a longtime resident of Amarillo. He attended secondary school in Amarillo and graduated from high school in Oklahoma City. He returned to Amarillo in 1980 and worked as a carpenter. He was a member of Liberty Church. He married Terry Lynn Roark in 1987. Survivors include his wife; a son, Cory Don Polley of the home; his mother and stepfather, Kathy and Hollis Watson; his father, Lonzo Polley of Childress; three brothers, Brian Marcus Watson of Amarillo, and Lance Polley and Michael Tyrrel Polley, both of Childress; two sisters, Tasha Polley and Jaqueline D'Ann Hampton, both of Childress; and grandparents, Robert and Carrie Vivens of Amarillo, and Z.P. and Lurline Polley of Turkey, Texas. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Buchanan was born in Amarillo. He graduated from Canyon High School and attended West Texas State University. He married Twylla Hay in 1960 at Amarillo. Mr. Buchanan was a veteran of the Navy. He was known for the charity work that he did for different organizations. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Canyon. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ty Buchanan and Tac Buchanan, both of Amarillo; his parents, Jack and Leona Downing of Canyon; a brother, Charles Buchanan of Houston; a sister, Gloria Thomas of Austin; a stepbrother, Scott Downing of Commerce; a stepsister, Gail Hudspeth of Amarillo; and a grandchild. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. James William Gafford James William "Babe'' Gafford, 71, of Amarillo, died Thursday, July 31, 1997. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Foster of Lake Meredith Baptist Church in Fritch officiating. Military rites will be by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Gafford was born in Slaton and had lived in Amarillo for more than 40 years. He served in the Army during World War II. He began working for Everett's Plumbing Co. when it opened. He had been retired for about 10 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Gafford married Emma J. Little in 1946 at Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Larry Don Gafford and John Wesley Gafford, both of Amarillo, and Arthur Gafford of California; three daughters, Ruth Whittington of Amarillo, Rose Dominguez of Las Cruces, N.M., and Winnie Louise Hudgens of Littlefield; a half brother, Al Taylor of Amarillo; three sisters, Mable Fisher of Amarillo, Faye Maddox of Virginia and Vaugn McGee of Lubbock; and 10 grandchildren. Windell Taylor, chaplain at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Davis was born in Broken Bow, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo most of his life. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a bus driver for Greyhound and retired after 30 years of service. He ran for city commissioner several years ago. He had raced cars at the Amarillo Speedbowl. Mr. Davis married Jo Settle in 1970 at Claude. Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Carla Sanders and Jerry Phillips, both of Amarillo, Gloria Miller Cherna of Dallas, Irene Tate of Tulsa, Okla., Anna Paschal of Denison and Ruthie Kerr of Grand Prairie; two sisters, Helen McKinney and Juanita Cleaver, both of Amarillo; three brothers, Dub Davis and Myrle Davis, both of Amarillo, and Ray Davis of Arlington; 15 grandchildren; and 26 greatgrandchildren. Oklahoma Vivian Irene Hopper HOOKER, Okla. - Vivian Irene Hopper, 74, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Gospel of Grace Church with the Rev. Jack Wilson of the Liberal, Kan., Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be in Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Hopper was born in Kansas City, Mo. She married John Hopper in 1966 at Clayton, N.M. They lived in Liberal for many years before moving to Hooker in 1977. Mrs. Hopper was a member of First Assembly of God at Liberal and was a past president of the Hooker Mother's Club and the Hooker Garden Club. She was preceded in death by a stepson. Survivors include her husband; three sons, William Francis, Harry Miller and Tom Miller; a daughter, Beckie Brockett; four stepchildren, Leo Hopper, Donald Hopper, John William Hopper and Loretta Shutts; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Addie Estell Barton SHATTUCK, Okla. - Addie Estell Barton, 87, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Church of Christ in Arnett with Dennis Fulks, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Higgins Cemetery at Higgins, Texas, by Mason Funeral Home. Mrs. Barton was born in Wills Point, Texas. She moved to the Higgins area in 1920 and attended a country school. The family settled in Higgins and lived there for several years. She married Buel Barton in 1928 at Arnett. They moved to the Booster Station south of Higgins, where her husband worked for Cities Service Oil Co. They later moved to a farm southeast of Higgins in Ellis County near the Bishop community. They lived there for 20 years before moving back to Higgins. In 1980, they moved to Arnett. Mr. Barton died in 1985. Mrs. Barton was a seamstress for more than 35 years while living in Higgins and Arnett. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy McNabb of Elkhart, Kan., and Ella Mae Bryan of Arnett; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Canyon Karin Miranda Anne Maloney Karin Miranda Anne Maloney, infant daughter of Tracy Glen and Karyn Finch Maloney of Canyon, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Joseph A. Hill Memorial Chapel on the WTAMU campus. Worship will be led by Toby Baxley and Band. Burial will be private. Karleen Ann Schwaller Vaughn TULIA - Karleen Ann Schwaller Vaughn, 67, died Wednesday, July 30, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Saturday in Wallace Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date. Mrs. Vaughn was born in Milford, Iowa. She moved to Nazareth at the age of 6 months. She attended school in Nazareth and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1947. She attended Amarillo College for two years. She married Kenneth Gwyn "K.G.'' Vaughn in 1949 at Amarillo. She was a bookkeeper for Vaughn Co., which she and her husband owned. Mrs. Vaughn was a homemaker and a member of Church of the Holy Spirit. She also was a member of St. Williams Ladies Organization, the Liturgy Ministry and the Home Artist Club. She was a past secretary and treasurer of Good Shepherd Ministries in Tulia. Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Gwyn Ann Shannon of Tulia, Mary Beth Minchew of Wylie, Lori Francis Scarborough of Albuquerque, N.M., and Janis Kathryn Miller and Sharon Elizabeth Wilkes, both of Lubbock; four sons, Thomas Neal Vaughn of Colorado Springs, Colo., David Rex Vaughn of Spur, William August "Bill'' Vaughn of Virginia Beach, Va., and Timothy Bart "Tim'' Vaughn of Lubbock; a sister, Byrlea Nussbaum of Canyon; and 16 grandchildren. She also lived in Amarillo from 1979 to 1984. She was a housekeeper and a member of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ. She married Haywood Cortez in 1983. He died in 1987. She formerly worked at NuWay Cafe, Barney's Pharmacy and Drs. W.W. and W.G. Stephens. She married Royce Moore in 1943 at Borger. She was preceded in death by a son, Mike Moore, in 1974. Mrs. Moore was a Methodist. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carolyn Rhea of Runaway Bay; and two grandchildren. C.W. Rogers FRITCH - C.W. Rogers, 87, died Wednesday, July 30, 1997. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Rogers was born in Quanah and had lived in the Fritch area for 25 years. He was a retired rancher and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Allene; three sons, Ron Rogers of Pampa, Roy Rogers of Great Bend, Kan., and Gene Rogers of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Janie Gregg of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Martha Ellen Bryan CLARENDON - Martha Ellen Bryan, 92, a former Donley County resident, died Friday, July 11, 1997, in Dallas. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Citizens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. Other arrangements are by Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Mrs. Bryan was born in Bowie and had been a lifetime resident of Texas. She was the assistant county school superintendent's secretary in Donley County for 34 years. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of First United Methodist Church. She also was a longtime volunteer in providing assistant to elders. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reagan C. Bryan.
