Montgomery PAMPA - Dr. S.J. Montgomery, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in United Methodist Church of Miami with the Rev. Daniel Moore, pastor, and the Rev. Jerry Moore, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Gruver, officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Dr. Montgomery was born in Cedarvale, Kan. He was a graduate of University Osteopathic Medicine, Surgery and Health Sciences at Des Moines, Iowa. He moved to Miami, Texas, in 1934. He practiced family medicine for 51 years before retiring in 1985. He was the Roberts County health officer for 50 years and chairman of the March of Dimes for 20 years. Dr. Montgomery was chosen Citizen of the Year by the Miami Chamber of Commerce in 1973 and received the Good Guy of the Year Award from KVII Pro News for attending to a patient during the blizzard of 1971. He was a past president of the Miami school board and a member of United Methodist Church in Miami. He was a master Mason for more than 70 years and a member of the El Paso Scottish Rite Consistory. He married Lucile L. Spease in 1930 at Howard, Kan. She died in 1993. Survivors include a son, Richard J. Montgomery of Garland; two daughters, Myrna Cheek of Fredericksburg and Saranne Judkins of Bay City; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to United Methodist Church of Miami, the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas or Hospice of the Panhandle in Pampa. Hazel Davis PAMPA - Hazel Davis, 93, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Davis was born in Forney and moved to the Panhandle in 1906. She was a graduate of White Deer High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Lester L. Davis in 1921 at Pampa. He died in 1983. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Davis Albers of Bastrop and Barbara Jean Abernathy of Pampa; a sister, Mary Grace Nix of Houston; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, 203 N. West, Pampa, Texas 79065. Dwight Drake PERRYTON - Dwight Drake, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Latham, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Pampa. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Drake was born in Rankin, Okla. He had lived in the Perryton area since 1928, moving from Cheyenne, Okla. He married Doris Ballard in 1940 at Lubbock. He was the owner and operator of Drake's Service Station in Perryton from 1953 to 1979. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. He was recalled to active duty in 1951 and served in Japan until 1953. He also served during the Korean War and was a first lieutenant bombadier. Survivors include his wife; a son, Daniel Drake of Amarillo; a daughter, Karen Slagle of Amarillo; a brother, Lloyd Drake of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Margaret Eccleston of Sun City, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the American Heart Association. Baldamero Sanchez CHILDRESS - Baldamero Sanchez, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Holy Angels Catholic Church with the Rev. Dennis Boylin of the church officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Sanchez was born in Dilley. He lived in Paducah for 39 years and had lived in Childress for the past 10 years. He married Maria Trinidad "Nena" Rodriques in 1947 at Monterrey, Mexico. He was a cowboy and farmer and a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He broke horses for the King Ranch for 12 years. He later broke horses and ranched for Jack and Johnny Strait in Pearsall. He also worked for Jack Parnell and Don Tucker. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Maria Domingues of White Deer and Mary Hernandez of Plano; a son, Jose Angel Sanchez of Childress; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Fred Lewis Row CLARENDON - Fred Lewis Row, 72, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories with Bob Reid, pastor of Travis Baptist Church in Memphis, and the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor of Martin Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. Mr. Row was born in Channing and had been a resident of Clarendon most of his life. He married Marjorie Elliott in 1946 at Memphis. He was an electrician most of his life before retiring in 1993. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Travis Baptist Church in Memphis. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Brenda Lee of Clarendon; a son, Ricky Row of Amarillo; a sister, Corrine Ashcraft of Clarendon; and five grandchildren. Pearl Shepherd FRIONA - Pearl Shepherd, 79, died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Friona Cemetery with Charles Green of Bovina officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Ms. Shepherd was born in Norman, Okla. She had been a Friona resident for the past 10 years, moving from Grand Prairie. She was a Baptist. Survivors include two sons, Leo Hall and Mike "Gator" Shepherd, both of Friona; a daughter, Jeanette Carter of Morgan Hill, Calif.; a sister, Betty Heath of Friona; eight grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Amarillo Delores Janette White Delores Janette White, 49, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Don Ralston, pastor of Northside Full Gospel Church, and Wayne Littlejohn of New Beginnings Gospel Center officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Ms. White was born in Walnut Ridge, Ark. She moved to Amarillo 39 years ago from Walnut Ridge. She was a bookkeeper and owned and operated the Grapevine Lounge. She also was a waitress in several other clubs. She was a member of New Beginnings Gospel Center. Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda White and Renda White, both of Amarillo; a son, Kevin White of Amarillo; her mother, Lillie V. Graham of Amarillo; her father, Robert Raymond Graham of Canton, Miss.; two sisters, Robin Littlejohn and Carolyn Cook, both of Amarillo; three brothers, Billy Graham and Bobby Graham, both of Amarillo, and Jack Graham of San Antonio; two grandchildren; and two special friends, Joe Blackwell and Kathy Hensch, both of Amarillo. Miller, 76, of Amarillo, a former resident of Fontana, Calif., died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Green Acres Mortuary Chapel at Bloomington, Calif. Burial will be in Green Acres Memorial Park at Bloomington. Mr. Miller was born in Butler, Pa. He previously lived in Fontana for 25 years and had lived in Amarillo for three years. He was a crane operator for Kaiser Steel for 30 years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mary Miller; two sons, Robert Miller of El Centro, Calif., and James V. Miller II of Colorado; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. New Mexico Joseph Walter Bonem TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Joseph Walter Bonem, 95, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Dunn Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bob Miller, minister of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Bonem was born in San Marcial and had been a longtime resident of Tucumcari. He managed the H. Bonem Clothier Store from 1941 to 1968. He was an active member and had served as president of the Tucumcari Kiwanis Club. He was a former president of the Tucumcari-Quay County Chamber of Commerce and a member and past exalted ruler of the Tucumcari Elks Lodge No. 1172. He also was a member of Tucumcari Masonic Lodge AF&AM No. 27 and the Shrine Consistory of Santa Fe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 1996; and by a son, Gilbert, in 1995. Survivors include a son, Joseph M. Bonem of New Braunfels, Texas; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing until 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. Elsewhere Hal Lanier Roberts Jr. ABILENE - Hal Lanier Roberts Jr., 67, died Thursday Feb. 27, 1997. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Oakridge Church of Christ with Mark Young and Bob Brandon officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Crossroads Cemetery, southeast of Ranger. Arrangements are by ElliottHamil Funeral Home. Mr. Roberts was born in Oklahoma City and attended Abilene Christian University and Texas Tech University. He moved to the Abilene area from Sonora 16 years ago. He was a lead operator for Lone Star Energy of Sweetwater. He supervised the construction and operation of numerous refineries and pipelines throughout the West Texas and Eastern New Mexico areas. He married Cevellia Carolyn Woods in 1955 at Eastland County. He was a member of the Oakridge Church of Christ and a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bailey Hal Roberts of Abilene, Kolton Ross Roberts of Olney and Gregory Dallas Roberts of Bellingham, Wash.; a daughter, Cevellia Alatha Roberts of Merkel; two brothers, Clifford Roberts of Amarillo and Bobby Roberts of Mansfield; a sister, Anna Cotton of Mineral Wells; and 11 grandchildren. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
