Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Akins, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Cemetery at San Angelo. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Joel was born in Amarillo. Survivors include his parents; grandparents, W.B. Byrd of Eastland, Kay Byrd of San Angelo, Judy Lewis of Burleson and Leslie Lewis of Lubbock; a stepgrandparent, Pat Byrd of Eastland; and great-grandparents, Marjorie Cox of Houston and Betty Lou Crimm of San Angelo. The family will be at 1600 Binkley Space No. 50 in Dumas. They suggest memorials be to the neonatal unit at Northwest Texas Hospital, Box 1110, Amarillo, Texas 79175. Guadalupe Ochoa PLAINVIEW - Guadalupe Ochoa, 88, died Monday, June 30, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Casa De Oracion with the Rev. Hermilo Perez, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Ochoa was born and raised in Goliad. He began his life's work as a minister with the Latin American Council of Christian Churches. He pastored at La Hermosa in Robstown and Bethesda at Alice. In 1964, he moved to Plainview and pastored at Templo Demasco until 1977. He continued his work as a minister until retiring in 1982. He married Santos Palmarez in 1933 at Carnes. She died in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Lupe Perez and Mercedes Lara, both of Plainview; two brothers, Benito Ochoa of Alice and Daniel Ochoa of Texas City; two sisters, Lilly Quintero of Victoria and Julia Cantu of Edinburg; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Murl Adams Mayfield FLOYDADA - Murl Adams Mayfield, 89, died Monday, June 30, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Howell Farnsworth officiating. Burial will be in Rushing Chapel Cemetery by MooreRose-White Funeral Home. Mrs. Mayfield was born in Hill County and attended Bethel School there. She married Gordan Mayfield in 1926 at Hill County. They moved to Floyd County in 1934 from Crosby County. Mr. Mayfield died in 1991. Mrs. Mayfield was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Floydada. She also was a member of WMU and the Sunbeams church group. She was a 60-year member of the Homebuilders Home Demonstration Club. She had served many offices in the club and currently was serving as president. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Eugene Mayfield of Henrietta; a sister, Helen Green of Antioch, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Helen Inez Crow PAMPA - Helen Inez Crow, 61, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Palmer, pastor of The Carpenter's Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Crow was born in Pilot Point. She was a resident of Borger before moving to Pampa 38 years ago. She married Ernest Crow in 1982 at Liberal, Kan. He died in 1996. Mrs. Crow was a member of The Carpenter's Church and the Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Pederson of Austin and Mary Rhoden of Pampa; a sister, Beatrice Christine Smith of Borger; a brother, Wayne Norman of Stinnett; and two grandchildren. Lena Elizabeth Schmidt PLAINVIEW - Lena Elizabeth Dieter Schmidt, 96, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Wood-Dunning Funeral Home Colonial Chapel with David Jeske, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mrs. Schmidt was born in Olney and attended school in the Providence community. She married Otto William "Willie'' Schmidt in 1920 at Floydada. He died in 1978. She was a homemaker. She was confirmed at the age of 17 in the Lutheran church. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in the Providence community before transferring to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in 1963. Mrs. Schmidt was a charter member of the Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran and a member of Lutheran Women Missionary League at St. Paul's Lutheran. She also was a supporter of Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. She lived in Westridge Manor from 1985 to 1995, when she moved to Prairie House Living Center. Survivors include two half-brothers, Delbert Dieter of Kentucky and Robert Dieter of Oregon. Joy Juanita Snelson HEDLEY - Joy Juanita Snelson, 76, died Monday, June 30, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rowe Cemetery with Bright Newhouse, pastor of Hedley Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. of Clarendon. Ms. Snelson was born in Knox County. She was a resident of Los Angeles for 54 years before moving to Hedley in 1992. She was employed as a decorator at a pottery manufacturing firm in California before retiring in 1963. She was a Baptist. Survivors include three sons, Doyle Heathington and W.J. Heathington, both of Hedley, and Donovan Heathington of Amarillo; three sisters, Othel Bolin and Wilma Snelson, both of Hedley, and Nonia Mae Howell of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. Amarillo Jeaneatte K. Phillips Jeaneatte K. Phillips, 64, of Amarillo, died Saturday, June 28, 1997. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon with Gregory Henson of Campus Church of Christ officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Ms. Phillips was born in Arkansas City, Kan. She was a longtime resident of Dumas and a former elementary teacher there. She worked for Region 26 Education Center. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by a son, Duke Hill. Survivors include a daughter, Suzie Weaver of Amarillo; a son, Jack Hill of Houston; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. The family will be at 5215 Zelma St. They suggest memorials be to Amarillo Christian School. Ron B. Stephenson Ron B. Stephenson, 49, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 30, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Mescalero Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Almaroad, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Stephenson was born in Plainview and raised in Pecos. He graduated from Pecos High School. He attended Sul-Ross University, McMurry College, Texas Tech University and Amarillo College. He was a past president of Alpha Beta Gamma fraternity at Amarillo College. He was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1970 to 1974. Mr. Stephenson married Jeanne Woods in 1968 at Pecos. They lived in Odessa for 10 years before moving to Amarillo in 1988. He was employed by American Business Equipment. He received his Realtors license in 1993 and currently was representing Ultra Realtors in Amarillo and Canyon. He was a member of Mescalero Baptist Church, the National Association of Realtors, the Texas Association of Realtors and the Amarillo Association of Realtors. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Neal Stephenson of Round Rock and Russell Bart Stephenson of Amarillo; his mother, Louise Stephenson of Odessa; a brother, Donald Ray Stephenson of Odessa; a sister, Patricia Ann Outcalt of Georgia; and two grandchildren. Doris Mullins Doris Mullins, 61, of Amarillo, died Saturday, June 28, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Garden of Venetian Well, with the Rev. Ms. Shelton was born in Borger and graduated from Memphis High School. She lived in Canyon for 12 years before moving to Amarillo six years ago. She was a bookkeeper for 20 years before retiring. She was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church. Survivors include a son, Tylan Shelton of Amarillo; two sisters, Sue Beth Miller of Austin and June Stewart of Amarillo; and a brother, Lee Stinsman of Amarillo. Herbert Eugene Elliott Herbert Eugene "Cowboy'' Elliott, 71, of Amarillo, a former longtime Donley County resident, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Citizens Cemetery at Clarendon with the Rev. Gene Anderson, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. of Clarendon. Mr. Elliott was born in Donley County. He lived in Donley County most of his life until moving to Amarillo in 1980. He married Florene Helen Thompson in 1947 at Memphis. Mr. Elliott owned a trucking business for most of his life until retiring in 1980. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Helen Graham of Clarendon; two sons, Terry Elliott and Don Elliott, both of Amarillo; a sister, Margie Row of Clarendon; a brother, Clifton Elliott of Clarendon; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery at Tucumcari. Mr. Simmons was born in Houston. He was living in San Antonio at the time of his death. Survivors include his mother, Dianna Simmons of Belen, N.M.; his father, William Christopher Simmons of Houston; a brother, Corbin Simmons of Houston; a sister, Lisa Simmons of San Marcos; and grandparents, Al and Ronel Simmons of Amarillo, and Bob and Joann Townes of Crockett.
