Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Claude with the Rev. Marvin James, pastor of Lake Tanglewood Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Tevebaugh was born in Hominy, Okla. He moved to Spearman in 1932 and settled in Claude in 1950. He farmed and ranched south of Claude from 1950 until 1990. He was an Amarillo resident at the time of his death. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Claude and was an associate member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. He also was a member of Hansford Masonic Lodge No. 1040. Mr. Tevebaugh married Billie Louise Jenkins in 1937. She died in 1981. He married Billie Jo Mace in 1983. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carolyn Ann Cook of Shalimar, Fla.; a son, Robert Glenn Tevebaugh of Shreveport, La.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mike Berry of Shreveport; three sisters, Edith McCain of Edmond, Okla., and Jo Kirk and Ruth Baker, both of Spearman; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and eight great-grandchildren. Lela Odell Steen Lela Odell Steen, 88, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in N.S. Mrs. Steen was born in Ballinger. She married James Victor Steen in 1929 at Canyon. He died in 1985. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Jean Clary, in 1995. Mrs. Wood was born in Hall County and moved to Amarillo 48 years ago from Quitaque. She married Jack Wood in 1938 at Hollis, Okla. He died in 1968. She retired from sales at the Fashion Corner in 1984. She was an active member of First Assembly of God. He was a member of Garland Street Church of Christ, and he was a Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Luette married Marion Sharp in 1925. She died in 1956. He married Norma Posey Gober in 1959 at Dumas. She married William Bryan Hurt in 1923 at La Rue. He died in 1967. She also was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Milner Hurt, in 1945. She retired as a clerk from the M.E. Moses Variety Store and was a member of the Church of Christ and the Century Study Club. Vernon Kay Peters WELLINGTON - Vernon Kay Peters, 88, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Independence Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Adams, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Peters was born in Vinson, Okla. He graduated from Vinson High School and attended Mortuary College at Oklahoma City. He returned to the family farm after the death of his father. He worked as a farmer and rancher. He was a Methodist, a Mason and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Peters married Freda Talkington in 1932 at Altus, Okla. She died in 1993. LaMarr Ramsey PLAINVIEW - LaMarr Ramsey, 62, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Max Browning, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Ramsey was born in Bradenton, Fla., and moved to Borger when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Borger High School in 1953. He served in the Coast Guard from 1953 to 1957. He graduated from Frank Phillips Junior College in 1959 and received a bachelor of business administration degree from West Texas State University. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He married Kaylene Tilson in 1961 at Plainview and then lived in Amarillo. He worked for Oil Development of Texas until 1965, when he moved to Plainview and started farming. He served as president of the Texas Soybean Association from 1977 to 1993 and was director of United Farm Industries from 1983 to 1985. Mr. Ramsey was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as as Sunday school superintendent for 14 years and also was on the administrative board. He was a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class and Men's Prayer Breakfast. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Marla Kay Howard of Plainview and Rhonda Burley of Amarillo; his father, Edward Ramsey of Borger; a sister, Dorris Murray of Branford, Fla.; and a grandson. Elsewhere Dawn Calhoun Cummings ARLINGTON - Dawn Calhoun Cummings, 77, a former Arlington resident, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997, in Mineral Wells. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church at Gordon. Burial will be in the New Gordon Cemetery by Edwards Funeral Home of Strawn. Mrs. Cummings was born in Gordon. She graduated from Gordon High School and received a degree in journalism from Texas Woman's College at Denton. She married John R. Cummings in 1945 at Fort Worth. She taught school in Gordon for three years before moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth area and working there for newspapers for 30 years as an editor in women's news and fashion, and on the police and fire beats. Mrs. Cummings worked from the Arlington Daily News, Mid Cities Daily News and the A.H. Belo Corp. She received the Margaret Caskey Award at a Celebrity Breakfast in 1976. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Arlington and was a charter member of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Women's Division and Soroptimist International. After her retirement in 1983, she and her husband moved to the Crazy Water Hotel in Mineral Wells. Mr. Cummings died in 1985. Survivors include a son, Joe Cummings of Amarillo; a stepson, Scotty Cummings of the Ex-ray community in Erath County; two sisters, Lazelle Hamilton of Mineral Wells and Mary Beth Morris of Gordon; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Helen Bentley McKINNEY - Helen Bentley, 59, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Panhandle Cemetery at Panhandle. Mrs. Bentley was born in Dell, Ark. She had lived at Pantex Village and graduated from Panhandle High School in 1955. She married Gene Bentley in 1955 at Pantex Village. She worked 28 years as a bank teller for several banks in Texas. She had lived in many parts of Texas before moving to McKinney three years ago from harlingen. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Harlingen. Survivors include her husband; a son, Timothy E. Bentley of Grapevine; three daughters, Penny Zhine of Garland, Terry Bentley of Dallas and Sheri Bentley of Lubbock; two sisters, Rosa Riggs of Amarillo and Anita Baker of Abilene; a brother, James Cummings of Groom; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Amarillo. New Mexico Jesus Galvan ELIDA, N.M. - Jesus Galvan, 60, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, in Portales. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in St. Helen Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the church by the Rev. Anthony Martinez. Burial will be in the Elida Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Mr. Galvan was born in Durango, Mexico. He moved to Elida in 1972 from Mexico. From 1972 to 1989, he worked from the Bojax Ranch. He then worked from M&G Pipe Co. before he was disabled. He married Jovita Barron in 1973. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve Barron of Pine Hill, Roger Barron of Belton, Mo., and Andy Galvan of Portales; two daughters, Amparo Towery and Martina Aguilar, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Tomas Galvan of Phoenix and Cruz Galvan of Durango; a sister, Margarita Galvan of Durango; and four grandchildren. Billy J. Foster PORTALES, N.M. - Billy J. Foster, 65, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Herbert E. Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Mr. Foster was born in Lingo, and attended school there through the sixth grade. He then transferred to school in Rogers and met his wife-to-be, Charlene Capps, on the first day of class. They both graduated from Rogers in 1951 and married later that year in Portales. He worked for Johnny Ross on his farm for a year and then was drafted into the Army in 1952 during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1954 and moved back to Portales, where he farmed and ran a dairy. In 1963, Mr. Foster attended barber college in Lubbock and then returned to Portales, where he worked as a barber for 35 years. He eventually owned his own business, Foster Barber Shop. Mr. Foster was elected a probate judge in 1982 and as a municipal judge in 1986. He retired from both positions in July. He was ordained a deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in 1959 and later was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. He enjoyed music and singing, particularly barber shop quartets and gospel music. Mr. Foster was a member of Portales Masonic Lodge No. 26, the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce and the "early morning doughnut bunch.'' Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Foster of Midland, Texas, and Ronnie Foster of Portales; a daughter, Shirley Prokop of Clovis; two brothers, Thad Foster and Travis Foster, both of Portales; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Frances T. Mertian CLAYTON, N.M. - Frances T. Mertian, 86, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today in Hass Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Husted, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Mrs. Mertian was born in Caddo County, Okla. She had lived in the Des Moines area for 26 years before moving to Clayton in 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob J. Mertian, in 1987, and by a son, Cheston Ramsey, in 1993. Survivors include two sisters, LaVina Conyers and Novella Lowery, both of Salado, Texas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Liberal City Cemetery at Liberal by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker. Mr. Haight was born in Liberal and had been a lifelong resident of Tyrone. He graduated from Tyrone High School in 1970 and attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University at Goodwell for two years. He married Debra Knop in 1972 at Hooker. He worked in farming and ranching and also was a dispatcher for the Seaboard Corp. He was an active member of Tyrone United Methodist Church and had served as the Sunday school superintendent for several years. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jared Haight of the home; a daughter, Brandee Haight of the home; his mother, LoRee Hall of Tyrone; a brother, Corky Haight of Gruver, Texas; and two sisters, Charlene Fast of Yukon and Jackie Smith of Tulsa. Helen Ilene Lively UNION CITY, Okla. - Helen Ilene Woodyard Lively, 79, died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997, in Amarillo. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Union City Cemetery by Bill Merritt Funeral Service in Mustang. Mrs. Lively was born in Du Quoin, Ill., and had lived in Union City for 10 years. Survivors include three sons, Luther Dean Lively of Union City and John Milton Lively and Earl Wayne Lively, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Sharon Eileen Critchlow of Amarillo; three sisters, Ethle Krug of Lincoln, Ill., Alta Morgan of Du Quoin and Ida Duddleston of Lakewood, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
