Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with the Rev. Harold Daniel of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Powers was the co-owner and mechanic at Powers Automotive for 29 years. He retired in 1989. He married Faye McGill in 1941 at Klondike. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Powers Jr. of Amarillo; a daughter, Melody Leak of Saginaw; a brother, Talma Powers of Amarillo; two sisters, Ruby Hoover of Denison and Christine Kelley of Paris, Texas; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Ingeborg Smith Ingeborg Smith, 71, of Amarillo, died Saturday, March 1, 1997. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Kingdom Hall of Jehova Witnesses. The body was cremated. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Smith was born in Magdeburg, Germany. She moved to Amarillo in 1982 from Jackson, Miss. She married David Smith in 1960 at Frankfurt, A.M., Germany. She was an executive secretary. She was associated with the Jehova's Witnesses. She was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1966. Survivors include her husband. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers be to the Crown of Texas Hospice. Clyde Hamilton Clyde Hamilton, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997. There will be no services. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Hamilton was born in Tulsa, Okla., and had been a longtime resident of Amarillo. He was an Army Air Corps pilot during World War II. He was a member of Unity Church of Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Hamilton; a son, Rex Hamilton of Sugar Land; two stepsons, Rus Bailey and Randy Bailey, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Tanya Jackson of Houston; three stepdaughters, Karen Hughes of Roundrock, and Nella Wilson and Christine Trammell, both of Amarillo; a brother, Clifford Hamilton of Redman, Calif.; two sisters, Pauline Gilliland of Tulsa and Ida Jewel Evans of Oregon; and several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Norma Feldman Norma Feldman, 85, of 3420 Nebraska St., died Sunday March 2, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in United Methodist Church at Meade, Kan., with the Rev. Jim Bush of the church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Meade. Local arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Other arrangements are by Fidler-Orme Funeral Home of Meade. Mrs. Feldman was born in Pleasanton, Kan. She previously lived in Meade for 40 years and had lived in Amarillo for one year. She was a school teacher and a member of St. Steven United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Feldman, in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Brinkley of Amarillo; a son, David Feldman of Soldotna, Alaska; two sisters, Harriett Zuraff of Las Vegas and Glee Williams of Phoenix; a brother, Wesley Harper of Petaluma, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will be at 4413 Evelyn St. The body will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Lora Mae Hawkins Lora Mae Hawkins, 78, of Amarillo, died Sunday, March 2, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Al Norris officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park East Mausoleum. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Fort Worth. She moved to Amarillo in 1945 from Jefferson County, Okla. She was a nurse for Northwest Texas Hospital. She retired after 26 years of employment. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, the Amarillo Orthopedic Association, the Panhandle Boat and Ski Club and the American Rabbit Breeders Association. Survivors include three sons, James Melton Hawkins, John Wayne Hawkins and Barry Jack Hawkins, all of Amarillo; three daughters, Nancy Joan Gulish, Frances Joleene Scaggs and Deloras Susie Marthaller, all of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Edmund Wells Thorpe Edmund Wells Thorpe, 90, of Amarillo, died Sunday, March 2, 1997. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by BlackburnShaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Thorpe was born in Exeter, Devonshire, England, and moved to Kenya, East Africa, in 1929. He lived in Kenya for 36 years. He served during World War II for British Intelligence in the Mediterranean and returned to Kenya to become a coffee farmer and to take people on wildlife photographic safaris throughout East Africa. During this time, he met his second wife, Jean Bowie Shor. They took photographic safaris together before moving to Malta. They sailed the Mediterranean in their own boat for 10 years and then settled in Santa Fe, N.M., where he was a Realtor associated with Chaparral Realty Co. They retired to Amarillo nine years ago. Survivors include his wife; and a daughter, Joan Root of Naivasha, Kenya. The body will not be available for viewing. Elsewhere Ruth Josephine Persons WEATHERFORD - Ruth Josephine Persons, 92, died Sunday, March 2, 1997. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Rest Haven Cemetery at Quitaque with Anthony Sisemore officiating. Arrangements are by Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel. Ms. Persons was born in Montley County. She was a resident of Quitaque before moving to Weatherford four years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and a 50year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a daughter, Norma Hewett of Weatherford; a son, Tad Persons of Richardson; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Edna Sipe MIDLAND - Edna Sipe, 86, died Saturday, March 1, 1997. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery at Amarillo with the Rev. Tommy Potter of First Christian Church of Midland officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Sipe was born in Bethel, Ind. She married Albert W. Sipe in 1947 at San Bernardino, Calif. She was employed by F.W. Woolworth in California and was transferred to Amarillo in 1953. She retired in 1960 after 25 years in retail sales. Edna and her husband owned and operated Al's Diner at Fourth Avenue and Filmore Street in Amarillo for 15 years. She had been a Midland resident for the past 16 years. She was a member of First Christian Church, American Business Women's Association, Rhineheart Circle at First Christian Church and the Midland County Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981. Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Ann Hightower of Midland; a sister, Eloise Bigham of Greenville, Ohio; and one grandson. New Mexico Marcellus Morton Justus TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Marcellus Morton Justus, 61, of Midland, Texas, a former Tucumcari resident, died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Richardson, minister of the Grady United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home. Mr. Justus was born in Tucumcari and had been a resident of Midland for the past 20 years. He was a heavy equipment operator working in the petroleum industry in the Midland area at the time of his death. He was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include his mother, Ora Justus of Clovis; and his children, Peggy Sabin of Montrose, Colo., Rocky Riggs of Grand Junction, Colo., Johnny Riggs of Bakersfield, Calif., Danny Carter of Midland and Debbie Zvonar of Tucumcari. The family requests memorials be to the Logan Methodist Church Building Fund or a favorite charity. Oklahoma Linda Beth Stack OKLAHOMA CITY - Linda Beth McDaniel Stack, 59, died Saturday, March 1, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in South Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Pocasset Cemetery at Pocasset. Arrangements are by Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary. Mrs. Stack was born in Briscoe County, Texas. She married Robert L. Stack in 1957. He died in 1994. She was the Cotton County clerk at Walters for 11 years before moving to Oklahoma City. She worked for Clifton Scott, state auditor and inspector, in the board of equalization and later in the horse racing division, where she was employed at the time of her death. Survivors include two sons, Bob Stack of San Francisco and Hansel Stack of Canton, Mich.; a sister, Wanda Gallant of Del City; two brothers, Bob McDaniel of Amarillo and Jack McDaniel of Northridge, Calif.; and two grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Good Shepherd Christian Church, 12323 S. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73108. Ethel Waters SAYRE, Okla. - Ethel Waters, 85, died Saturday, March 1, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Rose Chapel Funeral Service with Albert Warnken officiating. Burial will be in Sayre-Doxey Cemetery. Mrs. Waters was born in the Grimes community and attended school there. She married H.M. Carter in 1927 at Wheeler, Texas. They remained in the Grimes area until moving to Sayre in 1960. Mr. Carter died in 1977. She married Hobart Waters in 1981 at Sayre and lived in Sayre until Mr. Waters died. She also was preceded in death by three sons, Herman Carter, Tom Carter and Kenneth Carter. Mrs. Waters was a member of Sayre First Baptist Church. She moved to Hereford, Texas, in 1987. Survivors include two sons, Roy Carter of Hereford and Bill Carter of Wildorado, Texas; a stepson, L.A. Waters; a sister, May Orr of Seminole, Texas; two brothers, Glenn Gleaves of Sayre and Duane Gleaves of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Edna Francine Long BOISE CITY, Okla. - Edna Francine Long, 81, died Saturday, March 1, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Elkhart Cemetery at Elkhart, Kan. Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary. Mrs. Long was born in Walsenberg, Colo. She attended school in Denver and graduated from high school in San Diego. She married Roy Long in 1939 at Honolulu. They lived in California, Connecticut, Maryland, Texas, Oklahoma, Alaska, Colorado, Arkansas, Idaho and Oklahoma. They had lived in Boise City since 1996. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs, Colo. She also helped with Cub Scouts. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Francis Schoenleber. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Frank Long of Concord, Calif., Ronald Long of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Scott Long of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Area Herbert Outlaw QUANAH - Herbert "Shorty" Outlaw, 97, died Saturday, March 1, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton Young officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Outlaw was born in Jasper County and moved to Quanah in the mid-1920s. He married Iris Conway in 1928 at Quanah. He was a farmer and former director of the Quanah Farmers Co-op. He was a Army veteran of World War I and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ansell Outlaw of Richardson and Curtis Outlaw of New Orleans; a brother, Ray Outlaw of Quanah; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Lesley Quintana Dominguez DUMAS - Lesley Quintana Dominguez, 2-day-old daughter of Vilma Dominguez and Manuel Quintana, died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in the Dumas Cemetery with the Rev. Victor Mares of Templo Bethel Assembly of God officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Lesley was born in Amarillo. Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Francisco Dominguez and Lourdes Artalejo, all of Dumas; and a stepgrandfather, Sigifredo Artalejo of Dumas. Nora Hartwell HEDLEY - Nora Hartwell, 94, died Saturday, March 1, 1997. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Rowe Cemetery with Tom Anderson officiating. Arrangements are by Spicer Funeral Home of Memphis. Mrs. Hartwell was born in Indian Territory. She married Grant Hartwell in 1921 at Oklahoma. He died in 1969. She also was preceded in death by a son, G.W. Hartwell, in 1944. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, James Hartwell and LeRoy Hartwell, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Arletta Cobb of Wellington; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Hall County Hospital in Memphis. Lida M. Bruce CHILDRESS - Lida M. Sims Bruce, 88, died Saturday, March 1, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Assembly of God with the Rev. B.C. Elswick, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Bruce was born in Mena, Ark., and had lived in Childress for the past 38 years. She married Henry L. Bruce in 1925 at Carey. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Assembly of God. She also was active in the Women's Missionary Council of the Assemblies of God. She was preceded in death by a son, Alton J. Bruce, in 1988. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Evelyn Newberry and Carolyn Lane, both of Childress, and Evalee Taylor of Newark; two sons, Henry L. Bruce Jr. of Grants Pass, Ore., and Billy Don Bruce of Yukon, Okla.; a brother, Frank Sims of Amarillo; 23 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-greatgrandchildren. Leon Howell BORGER - Leon Howell, 65, died Saturday, March 1, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Gregg Simmons, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Love at Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Howell was born in Shamrock. He married Fern Jordan in 1970 at Pampa. He served in the National Guard and Reserves, retiring as a captain. He was manager of Borger Redi-Mix and Pampa Concrete before retiring after 28 years. He also had a CB shop and was in the process of getting his ham radio license. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Howell of Poteau, Okla., and Greg Howell of LaVergne, Tenn.; two stepsons, Larry Defries of Borger and Jerry Defries of Sunray; a daughter, Edye Jennings of Tulsa, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Carla Young of Belen, N.M.; his mother, Edith Howell of Fort Worth; a sister, Fred Rodriguez of Fort Worth; 18 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. The family requests memorials be to the American Heart Association.
