There will be no services. Cremation arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle, in Amarillo. Mr. Pool was born in Wichita Falls. He was raised in Groom, where he lived and worked on the family farm until moving to Clarendon 25 years ago. He was a janitor in Clarendon before retiring. Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Pool of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; and two sisters, Reba Strickland of Las Cruces, N.M., and Lois Farley of Lake Charles, La. Mattie Eva Knutson McLEAN - Mattie Eva Knutson, 86, died Thursday, July 3, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Hubbard of Bible Church of Pampa officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery by Lamb Funeral Home. Mrs. Knutson was born in Hall County and moved to McLean in 1916 from Hall County. She married Lonnie Knutson in 1933 at McLean. Mrs. Knutson farmed and ranched with her husband. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Don Knutson and Harley Knutson, both of Pampa, and James Windell "Jim'' Knutson of Amarillo; five sisters, Velvie Knutson of Hamlin, Cleo Marshall of Gatesville, Annie Klucas of McAlester, Okla., Florence Malone of Missouri and Flora Sale of Illinois; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Nels A. Larsen BORGER - Nels A. Larsen, 80, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Wesley United Methodist Church with Dr. David Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mr. Larsen was born in Twin Valley, Minn., and had been a Borger resident for 54 years. He was the retired owner of Larsen Motor Co. He married Pauline Dobson in 1962 at Borger. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Nedra Black of Abilene, Carolyn Tabor of Denton and Sandra Ward of Starkville, Miss.; a brother, Bob Larsen of Sonoma, Calif.; four sisters, Clarine O'Conner of Windsor, Calif., Ruby Fitzgerald of Mesa, Ariz., Millie Klinger of Minneapolis and Doris Madigan of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. King was born in Anson. He married Frances Goforth in 1938 at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1985. Mr. King was employed with Bailey County Electric Co-op before retiring in 1977. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Muleshoe. Amarillo Mickaela Grace Conaway Mickaela Grace Conaway, infant daughter of Audie and Becky Conaway of Amarillo, died Monday, June 30, 1997. Osage St. Mickaela was born in Amarillo. Survivors include her parents; a brother, Cody Clay Conaway of Amarillo; grandparents, Dona Adams, Otis Linley and Sandra and Fredie Harris, all of Amarillo; and great-grandmother, Grace Linley of Amarillo. Florene Moore Florene Moore, 89, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997. Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with Chester O'Brien of First Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services were at 3:30 p.m. in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon. Mrs. Moore was born in Arlie. She married Floyd Moore in 1928 at Arlie. They had farmed in Collingsworth and Randall counties. He died in 1953. In 1953 she moved to Canyon and began working as a seamstress at Warren's Department Store. In 1976, she moved to Amarillo and worked for Colbert's. She retired in 1978. She was a member of the Canyon chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Griffin of Abernathy; a son, Larry Moore of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and Affiliates. Magdaleno Moreno Magdaleno "Leno'' Moreno, 74, of Amarillo, a former Big Spring resident, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Myers & Smith Funeral Home Chapel at Big Spring. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Socorro Rios, pastor of Templo Belen Assembly of God, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Trinity Memorial Park at Big Spring. Mr. Moreno was born in Mexico. He lived most of his life in Big Spring before moving to Amarillo 10 years ago. He was a Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He had farmed most of his life. He was a Catholic. He married Irene Gutierrez in 1944. He was preceded in death by a son, David Moreno, in 1995. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Adolfo Moreno of Midland, Alex Moreno of Odessa and Larry Moreno of Big Spring; four daughters, Janie Conn and Mary Levario, both of Amarillo, Ninfa Garcia of Big Spring and Alice Robles of Odessa; a brother, Enrique Moreno of Big Foot; a sister, Irene Dominguez of Odessa; 15 grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Price was born in Paducah. She married Clifton Price in 1938 at Hollis, Okla. He died in 1981. She attended Fairview Baptist Church for 40 years. She was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church for 10 years. Survivors include three daughters, Jodi Koumalats, Dean Paxton and Jean Price, all of Amarillo; a son, Phillip Price of Lubbock; a brother, Austin Kirkland of Amarillo; and five grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Southlawn Baptist Church building fund. Heather Deanna Park Heather Deanna Park, 19, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997. Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in Colonial Funeral Chapel. Ms. Park was born in Amarillo. She attended Palo Duro and Highland Park schools. She enjoyed planting flowers and dancing. He worked as a pipefitter for Pantex. He married Margaret Jane "Dolly'' Marley in 1945 at Columbia, Pa. Mr. McLaughlin was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 1239, International Coachman Trailer Club No. 1030, Golden Spread Coachman Trailer Club No. 174, the Sunshine RV Club, the 68th Coast Artillery Anti-Aircraft Division and the Metal Trade Union. He also was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and Adult II Married Couples. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Salas was born in Duran. She was raised in the Encino area and attended school there. In 1963, she and her family moved to Portales. She married Adolfo Salas in 1963 at Portales. She was a cook at La Hacienda Restaurant for several years and was a hostess at the El Rancho Restaurant for about a year. She attended St. Helen Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband; five sons, Steve Salas, Pete Salas and Ricky Salas, all of Portales, Sammy Salas of Fritch, Texas, and Gregg Salas of the home; her mother, Delores Garcia of Portales; three brothers, Lorenzo Garcia of Encino, and Andy Garcia of Roswell and Rudy Garcia of Portales; six sisters, Josie Garcia, Sady Tapia, Aurora Flores, Priscilla Archibeque and Dorothy Montoya, all of Portales, and Mabel Urioste of Ponca City, Okla.; and seven grandchildren. Elsewhere Katherine Houston ABERNATHY - Katherine Houston, 79, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Abernathy First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tommie Beck, Condy Billingsley and David Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home. Mrs. Houston was born in Texas. She had lived in Abernathy since 1948, moving from Cotton Center. She married E.A. "Bill'' Houston in 1936 at Hale County. He died in 1995. Mrs. Houston was a charter member and past president of the 1935 Study Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women's Society and Sunday school. She also was a Vacation Bible School teacher and had been a member of the choir. Survivors include a son, Mac Houston of Abernathy; three daughters, Gloria Gray of Canyon, Billie DuBose of Plano and Rhetta Riley of Abernathy; two brothers, Wayne Brownd of Littlefield and Gene Brownd of Springlake-Earth; three sisters, Hollie Cheevers of Dumas, Patsy Greenwood of Cordell, Okla., and Barbara Barnett of Cotton Center; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Canyon Ferne Byars Kiker Ferne Byars Kiker, 73, of Canyon, died Thursday, July 3, 1997. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Canyon with Dr. Strauss Atkinson, pastor emeritus, and Dr. Charles Price, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Kiker was born near Canyon. She attended the Lakeside Country School and graduated from the WT Demonstration High School. She then attended West Texas State College. She married Crawford Kiker in 1948 at Canyon. Mrs. Kiker was a member of First Baptist Church of Canyon and worked with the Bible schools. She worked with the Randall County Tax Office in Canyon for several years and also was a supervisor for a savings and loan in the Los Angeles area for more than 10 years. She was a past worthy matron of Canyon City Chapter No. 105 of the Order of the Rainbow. She was a member of the Canyon Senior Citizens for many years. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Frances Berry and Lorry Parker, both of Canyon; a brother, Wayne Byars of Amarillo; two sisters, Gwen Baker of Amarillo and Jean Bellchambers of Santa Maria, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Oklahoma Wallace Ray Thornton BOISE CITY, Okla. - Wallace Ray Thornton, 41, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Felt Baptist Church at Felt with Billy Rammage and the Rev. Jeff Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Kenton Cemetery at Kenton by Cimarron Mortuary. Mr. Thornton was born in Boise City and raised on the family farm near Felt. He graduated from Felt High School and attended college for two years in Sayre and for two years in Weatherford. He worked for his father until he joined the Marines. He served in the Marines for seven years as a warehouse man. After leaving the Marines, he worked around the Clayton and Boise City areas. Survivors include a son, Preston Paul Thornton of Boise City; a daughter, Jackie Thornton of Boise City; his father, Richard Thornton of Amarillo; a sister, Mayra Grayson of Scott City, Kan.; two brothers, Charles Thornton of Penell, Okla., and Robert Thornton of Amarillo.
