Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of the Fountains with the Rev. Dale Bigham and the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Hinton was born in Greensburg, Ky., and had lived in Borger for 45 years. He was a retired operating engineer and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys, in 1992. Survivors include his wife, Claudette; two sons, Lewis Hinton of Springfield, Mo., and Edward Hinton of Bartlesville, Okla.; two grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. Ildefonso Lazo Ramirez CANADIAN - Ildefonso Lazo Ramirez, 36, died Sunday, June 1, 1997. Services will be in Mexico. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mr. Ramirez was born in Villa Ahumada, Chihuahua, Mexico. He worked in the oilfields and had lived in the Canadian area for the past three years. He married Sandy Alvarez March 14 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; his father, Anzelmo Ramirez of Mexico; four sisters, Josefina Terrazas Lazo, Elvira Terrazas Lazo, Catalina Ramirez Lazo and Virginia Ramirez Lazo, all of Mexico; and two brothers, Hector Ramirez Villarreal of Canadian and Rafael Ramirez of Mexico. Ethel Longbotham Schaffner SHAMROCK - Ethel Longbotham Schaffner, 85, died Monday, June 2, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Cole, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Schaffner was born in Nolan County and graduated from high school in Abilene. She married Edward Nicholas Schaffner in 1931. They moved to Shamrock in 1939 and began operating D&S Cleaners. Mr. Schaffner died in 1996. Mrs. Schaffner was a member of First United Methodist Church and served the church in many capacities. She also was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Thursday Literary Club, and she served on the board of the Pioneer West Museum. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Coleman of Canyon; a sister, Thelma Price of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. Brandon Lynn Stafford PERRYTON - Brandon Lynn Stafford, 19, died Monday, June 2, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Roy King officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Stafford was born in Perryton. He had lived in Perryton for 12 years, moving from Spearman. He graduated from Perryton High School in 1995. He was a student at Tarrant County Junior College and a member of First Christian Church of Perryton. Survivors include his parents, Al Williams and Sherry Williams, both of Perryton; a sister, Brooke Stafford of Perryton; and grandparents, Ben and Donna Cook of Gruver, and Pete and Shirley Stafford of Spearman. Courtney Thomson MULESHOE - Courtney Thomson, 91, of Riverside, Calif., died Thursday, May 29, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Muleshoe Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Thomson of Plano officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Thomson was born in Merkel. He had lived in Riverside for the past four years, moving from Commerce. He was employed for 30 years as a welder for the civil service. He was a Methodist. He married Zollie McCauley in 1926 at Mobeetie. She preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, Lawton Thomson of Riverside and Jerry Thomson of Richardson; a daughter, Judy Thomson of Tyler; a brother, Houston Thomson of Hugo, Okla.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Frances Estelle Morton FRITCH - Frances Estelle Morton, a former Fritch resident, 91, died Monday, June 2, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fritch Church of Christ with Bill Dunaway, minister, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Beatitudes at Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Morton was born in Cisco. She lived most of her life on the Johnson Ranch before moving to Fritch and later to Amarillo. She married Mack Morton in 1943 at New Mexico. He died in 1969. She also was preceded in death by a son, Landon Dowlen, in 1994. Mrs. Morton was a homemaker and a Fritch Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Larry Morton of Marshall and Lee Dowlen of Venice, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Sloan of Texarkana; two sisters, Pauline Howard and Geraldine Espy, both of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. Rickey Fred MORTON - Rickey Fred, 39, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery at Lubbock by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Fred was born in Littlefield and had been a lifetime resident of the Morton community. He was a graduate of Morton High School, South Plains College and Texas Tech University, where he was an agronomy major. He was a custom harvester and a member of First United Methodist Church of Enochs. Survivors include a sister, Phyllis Greer of Morton; and two brothers, Durwood Fred and John Fred, both of Morton. Survivors include his wife, Edith L.; a son, Bobby L. Cole of Argyle; a daughter, Donnie Terry of Houston; two brothers, Herman Cole of Plainview and Jesse Cole Jr. of Lubbock; three sisters, Ruby Waitzam of Glendale, Ariz., Ann Grant of Hemet, Calif., and Lucrecia Hanna of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Lorraine Ellis Lorraine "Shortie'' Ellis, 61, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 2, 1997. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Ellis was born in Tuttle, Okla. She moved to Amarillo in 1958 from Olton. She worked at High Plains Art Gallery, Sagebrush Art Galleries and Lewis Picture Frames. She was a member of Central Church of Christ. She married Richard Ellis in 1951 at Plainview. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Shirley Ellis and Gayla Hulen, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Ruby Smith of Olton and Lenore Morris of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, Doyle Morris of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lelldon Morris of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family will be at 5106 Shield. They suggest memorials be to the Texas Kidney Foundation. Charles A. Roberts Charles A. Roberts, 78, of Amarillo, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, in Fort Lyon, Colo. Military graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Arledge Ridge Cemetery at Bonham. Arrangements are by Wise Funeral Home of Bonham. Mr. Roberts was born in Bonham and had lived in Amarillo for 50 years. He was a World War II veteran after serving as a staff sergeant in the Army Medical Corps, 3594 Service Unit, in the AsiaticPacific campaigns, New Guinea and Australia. After returning from overseas duty, he was assigned to Newton D. Baker Army Hospital at Martinsburg, W.Va. He was associated with Big State Distributing Co. until his retirement. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. He married Christine Wright in 1945 at Sherman. Survivors include his wife; and a sister, Jane Dodson of San Angelo. The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home until service time today. Alice Burns Woodley Alice Burns Woodley, 94, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 2, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with the Rev. Allen J. Norris, Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Woodley was born in Dickens County and had lived in Amarillo since 1945. She was appointed by Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt as postmaster for South Plains, Elton and Spade. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. She married C.T. Burns in 1917 at Dickens. He died in 1959. She also was preceded in death by a son, Ray Burns, in 1991. Survivors include two sons, R.L. "Bob'' Burns and Wayne Burns, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Margie Wilson of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 12 great-greatgrandchildren. The family will be at 3419 S. Best, 73, died Sunday, June 1, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Miller, minister of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home. Mrs. Best was born in Tucumcari and raised at Quay. She graduated from San Jon High School. She was a homemaker and owned and operated an antique store on Main Street. She also helped her husband, Charles Best Jr., in their farming and truck farming west of town. Survivors include her husband; a son, Charles Best III of Tucumcari; and three grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home until service time today. Thurman Nation PORTALES, N.M. - Thurman Nation, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Portales Cemetery with Chris Swinford officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Nation was born in Mangum, Okla. He moved to New Mexico when he was 4 years old and settled near Grady. He graduated from high school in 1934 at Hollene. He attended Benson's School of Commerce at Clovis, and during that time he won a competition as the fastest typist in the state of New Mexico. He attended a year of college at Eastern New Mexico Junior College and then worked in Albuquerque at Rio Grande Steel. He married Marie Wright in 1941 at Clovis. In 1948, he began teaching and taught for 21 years in various schools including Mayhill, Clovis, Floyd, Corona and Pep, Texas. He mainly taught sixth grade but also had taught business courses at the high school level. He earned his bachelor's degree at Eastern New Mexico University in 1957 and his master's degree in 1961. In 1969 he retired from teaching. After retirement, he turned a longtime hobby of gunsmith into a full-time job. He also farmed in Bethel, where he and his wife made their home and ran some dairy cattle. He taught Spanish and tutored at the university as a volunteer. He attended Third and Kilgore Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pat Dewbre of Portales; a brother, Dale Nation of Clovis; a sister, Imogene Houston of Clovis; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Louise Trigg SANTA FE, N.M. - Louise Trigg, 84, died Monday, June 2, 1997. Memorial services will at 11 a.m. July 30 at the family farm in Nambe, north of Santa Fe. Mrs. Trigg was born in Channing, Texas, at the headquarters of the XIT ranch. In 1917, she moved with her family to the Trigg Ranch north of Tucumcari. She attended school in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1930. She spent summers at Trigg Ranch, and during the school year the family lived in Amarillo. She married Robert McKinney during World War II. They lived in Washington, New York, Vienna and Berne, Switzerland. She maintained a farm in Nambe, where she raised registered Angus cattle. She was one of the founders of the Santa Fe Opera, Santa Fe Preparatory School and Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. She served as chairman of the New Mexico Arts Commission in the 1970. Survivors include a daughter, Robin McKinney Martin of Nambe; a brother, Steve Trigg of the Trigg Ranch; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to the Santa Fe Preparatory School scholarship fund, 1101 Camino de la Cruz Blanca, Santa Fe, N.M. 87501. Zipporah Jones CLOVIS, N.M. - Zipporah Jones, 78, died Sunday, June 1, 1997. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Williams officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Havens Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Jones was born in San Augustine, Texas. She was a member of St. John's Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow W. Jones, and a son, Terry Jones. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Haskins and Rose Mary Nancy; three sons, Woody Jones Jr., Sammy Spenser Jones and Garry Jones; a sister, Iudrah Nash; a brother, Jethro Robinson; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Lavern Sewell CLAYTON, N.M. - Lavern Sewell, 87, of Springer, a former Clayton resident, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hass Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Rammage, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Texline Cemetery at Texline, Texas. Mrs. Sewell was born in Strawn, Palo Pinto County, Texas. She had been a lifelong resident of the Texline area. She married Floyd J. Sewell in 1929 at Clayton. He died in 1976. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper. She had lived in Springer since 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Lois Jean Anderson of Dumas, Texas; a sister, Juanita Saunders of Gladstone; a brother, Jim M. Lingle of Odessa, Texas; and seven grandchildren. Elsewhere Floyd Lane Guinn STEPHENVILLE - Floyd Lane "Buddy'' Guinn, 58, died Monday, June 2, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Huckabay Baptist Church at Huckabay with the Rev. Van Christian officiating. Burial will be in Huckabay Cemetery by Lacy Funeral Home of Stephenville. Mr. Guinn was born in Seminole, Okla. He married Georgia Flood in 1963 at Durango, Colo. He was a retired school principal and a life member of TEPS. He also was a member of the Secondary Principal Association, the Erath County Teachers Retirement Association, ATPE and Huckabay Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd O. Guinn of Huckabay; three sisters, Virginia Shadden of Huckabay, Margie Tannehill of Post and Betty Ann Meyer of Levelland; and a brother, Phil Guinn of Meridian.
