Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jake Clemmens of the church officiating. Cremation will be by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St., Amarillo. Mr. Ellison was born in Syracuse, Kan. He graduated from St. John's Military School at Salina, Kan. He served in the Army. He worked at Shepard's Crook Nursing Agency. He married Margaret J. West in 1964 at Raton, N.M. They moved from Garden City, Kan., to Pampa in 1989 and lived in Pampa since. He was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cinda R. Ellison, in 1965. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Cedric Ellison of Denmark, and Eric Ellison and Jeff Ellison, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Jennifer Adams of Wichita, Kan.; his father, Cliff Ellison of Syracuse; and two grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Fairview Cemetery at Memphis with the Rev. Harvey Melton officiating. Arrangements are by Spicer Funeral Home of Memphis. Ms. Whitley was born in Estelline and had lived in the Estelline area all of her life. She was of the Assembly of God faith. Survivors include her mother, Lora Lavton Jones of Childress. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Bill Boley England GROOM - Bill Boley England, 57, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church of Groom with the Rev. Bryan Richardson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Wellington. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Mr. England was born in the Parnell community of Hall County. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1958. He married Rose June Montgomery in 1966 at Amarillo. He retired as a production technician at Pantex. He was a former officer of the Metal Trades Union and a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He served in the Army in Vietnam from 1958 to 1966. He was a member of Golding Meadows Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1475 and had served on the Groom School Board. Survivors include his wife; a son, Phillip England of Amarillo; a daughter, Rebecca England-Britten of Lakin, Kan.; his mother, Dixie Anthony of Groom; six brothers, Bob England, Ed England and Stan Anthony, all of Groom, Charles England of Dumas, Penny England of Camarillo and Steve Anthony of Roscoe. The family requests memorials be to the Groom Ambulance Service or the Wellington Cemetery Association. Amarillo Dr. Thomas D. MacOwan Dr. Thomas D. MacOwan, 79, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Frank Swindle, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. MacOwan was born in Monticello, Ind. He lived in Canyon from 1955 until 1966, when he moved to Amarillo. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Ball State University at Muncie, Ind., and completed his doctorate at Indiana University. He was a high school principal and teacher and coached basketball and football in northern Indiana. From 1942 to 1946, MacOwan served in the Navy and was an athletic specialist at Pensacola, Fla., and was a navigation instructor at Ottumwa, Iowa, and Athens, Ga. He was a lieutenant in the Naval Reserves. He began teaching at West Texas State University in 1955. His field of teaching was secondary education in psychology and education. In 1955, along with the late R.A. Selby, he help found the Phi Delta Kappa Chapter in the Amarillo area. He served in several offices and later was selected Outstanding Phi Delta Kappan of the Year. He retired from West Texas State University in 1982 and taught part time for Amarillo College in the computer department. He also taught extension classes for Wayland Baptist College. Mr. MacOwan volunteered for the Don Harrington Discovery Center, St. Anthony's Hospital Auxiliary, the Amarillo Area Adult Literacy Council and the American Cancer Association. He served on the boards of the American Cancer Society District 15 for many years and as president of the Randall County Cancer Society. He was a member of the Canyon Lions Club, the American Retired Teachers Association, National Educational Association, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Delta Kappa, Texas State Teachers Association, Psi Chi and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. His first wife, Mary Margaret Smalley, died in 1965. He married Irma Scroggins in 1966 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike Scroggins of Amarillo; a daughter, Sue A. Erwin of Amarillo; a brother, Rex MacOwan of Monticello; a sister, Daphne MacOwan Bunnell of Monticello; and five grandchildren. Seventh Ave., died Tuesday, June 3, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dean Wynn, associate minister at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Arden moved to Amarillo in 1929 from Seymour. He married Floy White in 1935 at Amarillo. She died in 1985. He retired from Furr's Food Inc. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Kay Horton of Woodland and Pam Siler of Mebane, N.C.; two sons, Jerry Arden of San Francisco and Glenn Arden of Dallas; three sisters, Alice Ruth Purcell and Camille Arden, both of Amarillo, and Lois Allred of Wildorado; two brothers, Dudley Arden and Wilson Arden, both of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren; and 13 greatgrandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Melba McCormick Melba McCormick, 66, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 2, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Neal Dee officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. McCormick was born in Wheeler County. She moved to Amarillo in 1956 from Canyon. She married James McCormick in 1956. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Marcus McCormick of San Diego, Joe McCormick and John McCormick, both of Canyon, and Steve McCormick of Amarillo; two daughters, Kathy McCormick and Brenda Kay Williams, both of Canyon; five sisters, Minnie Evans, Eunice Saey, Ida Mae Sinclair, Lorene Lawrence and Susie Rhoades; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The body will be available for viewing today. New Mexico L.A. Stephenson CARLSBAD, N.M - L.A. "Leonard'' Stephenson, 81, died Monday, June 2, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Portales Cemetery at Portales with Owen Morrow and Max Richards officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Stephenson was born in Portales and raised in the Arch area. He was a member of Fox and Lake Church of Christ at Carlsbad for a number of years but was a member of the Southside Church of Christ in Carlsbad at the time of his death. He was educated in the Portales schools. He worked on the family ranch for a while and then worked in the C.C. Camp at Marchfield, Calif. He married Pauline Austin in 1936 at Portales. For several years, they farmed in Arch. About 1942, Mr. Stephenson began working for Santa Fe Railway as a fireman. During that period he lived in Clovis and then in Carlsbad. They later moved to Dora. He also worked as a carpenter. In 1950, his family moved to Carlsbad to work on construction at the potash mines. He had worked all over New Mexico and Texas on construction jobs, building a variety of buildings including many homes and churches. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union Local 1245 for 49 years and the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; a son, John R. Stephenson of Carlsbad; a daughter, Annitta Robertson of Hurley; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Elsewhere Gladys Marie Jones Nevins OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Gladys Marie "Tince'' Jones Nevins, 88, died Monday, May 19, 1997. Memorial services were May 21 at the Atriums. Arrangements were by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker, Okla. Mrs. Nevins was raised and attended school in the Hooker area. She graduated from Hooker High School and attended Panhandle State College at Goodwell, Okla. She was a school teacher. She married Roy L. Nevins in 1930. They lived in Culver City, Calif., Oklahoma City and Liberal, Kan. Her husband died in 1960. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Hooker and First United Methodist Church at Liberal. Survivors include a son, Dr. Rick Nevins of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Opal Shipps of Shawnee, Okla.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a great-greatgrandchild. Glouchester Place, Norcross, Ga. 30071. J.B. "Jubal'' Clark AUSTIN - J.B. "Jubal'' Clark, 68, a former Amarillo resident, died Friday, May 16, 1997. Memorial services were in Austin by AustinJones Mortuary. Mr. Clark was born in Crosbyton. He lived in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School. He attended the University of Berkeley in Austin and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin. He had been a longtime resident of Austin. He was a veteran of the Navy and had served in the Korean War. Mr. Clark was a singer and songwriter. He played at several picnics with Willie Nelson and appeared in some of Nelson's films including "Red-Headed Stranger.'' At the time of his death, Mr. Clark was compiling a CD titled "Gypsy Cowboy'' that features songs from a 1990 tape of the same name and live tracks recorded at the Austin Outhouse. Calvin Russell recorded one of Clark's most famous songs, "Love Stealer.'' Survivors include his wife, Brucille Clark of Amarillo; two daughters, Kerry Clark-Tiffany of Amarillo and Nancy Clark-Burt of Amarillo; three sons, Danny Clark of Amarillo, Stanley Clark of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Jubal Calibur Coyote Clark of Texas; a brother, Hubert Clark of Amarillo; a sister, Norma Clark Davis of Arizona; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Dalma Sims CHILLICOTHE - Dalma Sims, 87, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. John L. Reece and the Rev. Wallace Clay officiating. Burial will be in Chillicothe Cemetery by Manard Funeral Home. Mrs. Sims was born in Beaumont. She moved from Waxahachie to Chillicothe in 1924. She moved to Crowell in 1927 and returned to Chillicothe in 1931. She married Willie Sims in 1928 at Crowell. He died in 1984. She also was preceded in death by a son, Rev. H.K. Sims, in 1983. Mrs. Sims was a homemaker and a member of St. John Baptist Church, where she was the pianist, secretary and treasurer. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lou Gates of Wichita Falls; six sons, Freddie Lee Sims and Clark Sims, both of Amarillo, Willie Lee Sims of Quanah, Bonnie Joe Sims of Dallas, Aldean Sims of Vernon and Ernest Lee Sims of Lubbock; 37 grandchildren; and 64 greatgrandchildren. Oklahoma Esther L. Hanshu SHATTUCK, Okla. - Esther Longhofer Hanshu, 73, died Sunday, June 1, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Christ Lutheran Church with the Rev. Larry Henderson and the Rev. Gary McClellen officiating. Burial will be in Shattuck Memorial Cemetery by Good Samaritan Funeral Service. Mrs. Hanshu was born and raised in Shattuck and attended a country school there. She married Henry Hanshu in 1941 at Shattuck. They lived in San Antonio, Texas. After her husband's discharge from the Air Force, they moved to Darrouzett, Texas, and were engaged in farming. After the death of her husband in 1956, Mrs. Hanshu moved to Shattuck and had lived there since. She also was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Douglas Hanshu. Survivors include nieces and nephews.
