Michael was born in Perryton. Ollie Rowell Strange TULIA - Ollie Rowell Strange, 84, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Wallace Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Crass, former Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery at Silverton. Mrs. Strange was born in Gail and grew up in Kerrville and San Saba. She attended Frances Community School in Briscoe County. She married Ernest Charles Strange in 1936 at Quitaque. They lived in Silverton after marrying. Mrs. Strange moved to Tulia in 1971. She was a homemaker and a member of Silverton Church of Christ. Mr. Strange died in 1976. Survivors include two daughters, Ernestine Barnes and Joy Reeves, both of Tulia; two sons, Louie Strange of Kress and Bud Strange of Claude; four sisters, Dorothy Stapp of Lockney, Mattie Yarborough and Hazel Mays, both of Stockton, Calif., and Ola Mae Johnson of Strathmore, Calif.; two brothers, Henry Rowell of Lockney and Altus Rowell of Green Valley, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Lloyd Delmar Pickles QUANAH - Lloyd Delmar Pickles, 82, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Spangler officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park. Mr. Pickles was born in West Frankfort, Ill. He had lived in Quanah since 1955, moving from Freeburg, Ill., where he was a foreman for Grand Paper Co. He was an Army veteran and received a Certificate for the Liberation of Norway in 1945. He worked for the Quanah Independent School District for many years and had been a member of the Teamsters Union for 40 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Pickles was preceded in death by his wife, Charline Pickles, in 1996. Survivors include a brother, George Pickles of Arnold, Mo.; and a sister, Nina Mihalich of Johnston City, Ill. Berle H. Fisch SILVERTON - Berle H. Fisch, 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997. Mr. Fisch was born in Silverton. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a farmer and a member of Rock Creek Church of Christ. He married Aloha Haun in 1942 at Plainview. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Hare and Barbara Bannister, both of Amarillo; and a grandchild. Wilson Sr., 81, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hale Center First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Meachum, pastor, officiating. The body will be donated to the Texas Tech University Medical School. Arrangements are by Freeman Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson was born in Van Alstyne. He lived in Canadian from 1949 until moving to Amarillo in 1980. He moved to Hale Center in 1996 from Amarillo. He married Sibyl Taylor in 1942 at Pampa. Mr. Wilson was a State Farm insurance agent during the 1950s and 1960s. He also worked for the Canadian Hemphill County Chamber of Commerce and the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He retired as a lieutenant colonel. He was a member of and served as a deacon at Hale Center First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Hugh H. Wilson Jr., M.D., of Hale Center; a daughter, Janis Carol Wilson Williams of Austin; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Joe Loyd Mothershed MEMPHIS - Joe Loyd Mothershed, 82, of Amarillo, a former Memphis resident, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, in Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Memphis First Baptist Church with the Rev. O.K. Bowen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by the Memphis Masonic Lodge. Arrangements are by Lamb Funeral Home of McLean. Mr. Mothershed was born in Parnell. He moved to Amarillo from Memphis in 1993. He served in the Marine Corps as a gunnery sergeant during World War II. He served for 10 years. He married Mildred Lamb in 1944 at Memphis. She died in 1993. He also was preceded in death by a son, Jody. Mr. Mothershed retired as a self-employed cable contractor. He was a member of San Jacinto Baptist Church in Amarillo and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Ekerberg of Estes Park, Colo., and Susan Mothershed of Amarillo; and two grandsons, Mark Ekerberg of Bismark, N.D., and Steve Ekerberg of Boston. Mr. Bressler was born in St. Francis, Kan. He graduated from Bird City High School in 1966. He was a veteran of the Navy and a member of Happy First United Methodist Church and the Amarillo Racing Pigeon Club. Mr. Bressler owned and operated the Auto Agri and Machine Shop in Bird City until 1983. He moved to Wakita, Okla., and was employed by Case Implement Co. until 1989, when he moved to Ceta Canyon. He was employed by the Methodist camp as their maintenance technician. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sari Stark. He married Terri Graham in 1979 at Arkansas City, Kan. He graduated from Quanah High School. He accepted Christ at Friendship Baptist Church and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Quanah Riding Club and the Quanah Veterans of Foreign Wars. His daughter, Kennedy Moore, also died on Sept. 2. Kirkland VEGA - I.T. "Dick'' Kirkland, 85, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Peach, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Vega Funeral Home. Mr. Kirkland was born in Gatesville and had been a resident of Vega since 1956. He served for 3 1/2 years in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Odessa L. Harvey in 1941 at Las Vegas. Mr. Kirkland was a farmer for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Vega. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holton Cemetery at Holton, Kan. Mr. Gabaldon was born in Wichita, Kan., and had lived in Amarillo for 10 years. He was a dental lab technician for the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He also had worked for the Indian Health Service and the Highway Safety Department in Albuquerque, N.M. He was a member of the CheyenneArapaho tribe, where he was an elder council member and a business consultant. He graduated from Haskel Indian College and attended Kansas University. Mr. Gabaldon was a Navy veteran and served as a medical corpsman during World War II. He was a member of the Merchant Marines and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had been a member of the Elks for more than 40 years. He was Episcopalian. Survivors include his wife, Rose-Marie Cuellar-Gabaldon; a daughter, Nina Gabaldon Desbien of Durango, Colo.; a son, Robert I. Gabaldon Jr. of Lawrence, Kan.; four grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and his former wife, Grace Connor of Arizona. Valton Lois Chappell Valton Lois "Dick'' Chappell, 76, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Chappell was born in Wise County and raised in Silverton. He had lived in Amarillo for 50 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include two brothers, Wilbur Chappell of Amarillo and G.W. Chappell of Canyon; and a sister, Bonnie Chappell of San Angelo. Dan Norman Dan Norman, 34, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, in Leadville, Colo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church Chapel at Clovis, N.M., with Dr. Bill Sylskar officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens at Clovis by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Norman was born in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated from Clovis High School in 1981. He worked for the Coca Cola Co. in Clovis, Hereford, Trinidad and Amarillo and was transferred with the company to Leadville from Amarillo. He was a member of the Lions Club. He married Diana Taka Stebbins in 1981. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Andrew Norman and Nicholas Norman, both of the home; his parents, David and Linda Norman of Clovis; a brother, Jason Norman of Albuquerque, N.M.; and his grandmother, Gwendolyn Norman of Bangor, Iowa. Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Graham Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Barajas was born in Ahuihullo, Mexico. He moved to the United States in the 1940s. He was a farm worker for many years. He had worked for Glover Meat Packing, Pickney Meat Packing, Gilvin-Terrill Construction Co. and Ivan Dement Construction Co. He retired from DePauw Construction in 1989. He married Carolinne Womack in 1967 at Plainview. Mr. Barajas was a member of Second Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeff Barajas of Amarillo; a brother, Ruben Barajas of Mexico; and a sister, Juanita Gonzales of Amarillo. Jack DeHart officiating. Mr. Rice was born in Amarillo and had been a resident of the Dallas-Irving area for 30 years. He had been a certified public accountant in Addison for five years. He was a member of the Dallas Chapter of CPAs and the Texas Society of CPAs. Jared Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by SteedTodd Funeral Home. Mr. Crisp was born in Etowah, Tenn., and moved to Clovis in 1967. He had been a maintenance supervisor at Excel Corp. for 17 years. He was a member of First Church of God. He was a football and basketball coach at Play Inc. for 12 years. He also coached the Southern and Western baseball leagues. For 12 years, he had coached in citywide youth programs. He married Mary Guerra in 1972. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charlie Crisp, Jessie Crisp and Joshua Crisp, all of Clovis; three sisters, Linda Morgan, Melva Dolan and Annette Guerra, all of Etowah; and three brothers, Jackie Crisp and Jim Crisp, both of Etowah, and Paul Crisp of Cleveland, Tenn. The family requests memorials be to the American Heart Association. Velma Howell KENNA, N.M. - Velma Howell, 91, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kenna Community Church with Howell Martin and Kenneth Dunsworth officiating. Burial will be in Kenna Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Howell was born in Ranger, Texas, and moved in 1909 with her parents to a homestead south of Elida. She attended Elida schools. After high school, she worked for Henry McCowen at the Elida newspaper for two years. She married Guy Phelps Howell in 1928 at Roswell. They moved to the White Ranch northwest of Kenna, where they lived until returning to the Howell ranch headquarters south of Kenna. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1956; and by a nephew she had raised, Lee "Wart'' Walker, in 1984. Survivors include a daughter, Alma Lyle Bilberry of Kenna; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a niece, Mary Louise Martin of Lubbock, Texas. Florence Clark PORTALES, N.M. - Florence "Flo'' Clark, 75, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Church of the Nazarene at Clovis with the Rev. Edwin Abla officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Clark was born in Limestone County, Ill., and raised in Elgin, Ill., where she graduated from high school in 1940. After graduation, she worked at the Elgin Watch Factory and later at the David C. Cook Publishing Co. She also worked at Hoff Hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif. She married Ken Clark in 1944 at Santa Barbara. They moved to various duty stations with the Navy and in 1963 returned to Santa Barbara where they lived a few years before moving to Oxnard, Calif. She worked for the county court in Oxnard. She retired in 1978 and, after traveling extensively, moved to Portales in 1996. Survivors include her husband; a son, Jim Clark of Oakview, Calif.; four daughters, Deborah Kennon of Bullhead City, Ariz., Lynn De la Cruz of Ventura, Calif., Sharon Cordiel of Oxnard and Mary Haman of Portales; a brother, Ken Larson of Hammond, Ind.; a sister, Joyce Knapp of Kirkland, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Perez was born in Thorndale. He moved to Southland when he was young and attended school there. He married Grace Herrera in 1950 at Post. They moved in 1971 to Post, where Mr. Perez was a farmer. They moved to Canyon in 1985. Mr. Perez was a veteran and a member of First United Pentecostal Church of Canyon. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jimmy Perez and Walter Perez Jr., both of Canyon; two daughters, Margie Gill of Post and Caroline Mansour of Amarillo; three brothers, David Perez and Johnny Perez, both of Amarillo, and Pete Perez of Lubbock; a sister, Blanch Lara of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.
