Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Polk was born in Carlsbad, N.M., and lived in Amarillo for five years. He then moved to Kansas City, Mo., and lived there for five years before returning to Amarillo. He retired in 1974 as a long distance driver for Navajo Truck Lines. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 577 and St. Luke Presbyterian Church. Mr. Polk married Johnnie Lucille Stewart at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two stepdaughters, Shelia Brown and Sherry Burgess, both of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. Robert Henry Vivens Robert Henry Vivens, 78, of Amarillo, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Phillip Randle, pastor of Johnson Chapel AME, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Military honors will be by Disabled American Veterans No. 26. Mr. Vivens was born in Geneva. He owned a cafe in Turkey, Texas, in the late 1950s and owned Bob's Grocery Store from 1968 to 1972. He retired as a custodian for West Texas State University in 1992. He also worked part time at the Amarillo Art Center. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Vivens married Carrie R. Hicks in 1939 at Geneva. Survivors include his wife; seven daughters, Kathy Watson, Ann Jackson, Carrie Thompson and Sharon Towner, all of Amarillo, Doris Vivens and Elaine Vivens, both of Dallas, and Bobbie Torrence of Atlanta; three sons, Billy Vivens and Mitchell Vivens, both of Amarillo, and Timi Vivens of Estelline; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Canyon Mary Cox Mary Cox, 86, of Canyon, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton. Burial will be in Wharton City Cemetery. Local arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Cox was born in San Saba County. She married Elton Ross Cox in 1929 at Wharton. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Cox was a member of First Baptist Church of Wharton. Survivors include a son, Elton E. Cox of Canyon; two sisters, Maggie Little of Wharton and Sylvia Boyd of East Bernard; one grandchild; and three greatgrandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Emerson Haraden Emerson Haraden, 86, of Canyon, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in St. George's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. John Githiga, rector, officiating. Private burial was Tuesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Haraden was born in Chicago. He was a professional French horn player in the Los Angeles and New York metropolitan areas. He also was a music educator. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. After graduating from the Julliard School of Music and Columbia University, Mr. Haraden taught instrumental music at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. He also taught at the Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, Willamette University in Oregon and West Texas State University in Canyon. He performed as principal horn with the Corpus Christi Symphony and the Portland, Oregon, Symphony. He was a member of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra from 1969 to 1982. Mr. Haraden was a Mason and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Robert Parker Haraden of Canyon; a daughter, Mary Margaret Haraden of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Virginia McCreery of Cerritos, Calif.; a brother, Parker Haraden of California; a sister, Vivian Mets of California; and three grandchildren. Elsewhere Sandra Dee Crone Tapanes FORT MEYERS, Fla. - Sandra Dee Crone Tapanes, 52, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain, S.D. A memorial service will be Sept. 7. Ms. Tapanes was born in Glasgow, Mont. She attended school in Fort Peck, Mont., and Fort Lincoln, Mont. She graduated from high school in 1963 at Riverdale, N.D. Ms. Tapanes worked for the park service in Dade County and later for Flora and Ella's Restaurant in LaBelle. She retired from the park service and moved to Clewiston in 1993. Survivors include two sons, Jeffery of Wilderville, Ore., and David of Clewiston; a daughter, Leslie of Sanger, Calif.; her father, Boyce M. Crone of Chamberlain; two sisters, Sylvia D. Murray of Amarillo and Janine Wenzel of Gillette, Wyo.; and three granddaughters. Billy McCauley LUBBOCK - Billy McCauley, 41, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Lakeridge United Methodist Church. Private graveside services will be in Resthaven Memorial Park by Resthaven Funeral Home. Mr. McCauley was born in Dallas and had lived in Lubbock for most of his life. He attended North Texas State University and graduated from Texas Tech University and the Asbury Seminary. He married Mary Kay Page in 1979 at Lubbock. Mr. McCauley was an evangelist for the Northwest Texas Conference. He was the founder and director of Words and Music Ministries. He attended Lakeridge United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Church Conference. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ben McCauley, Josh McCauley and Luke McCauley, all of Lubbock; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Bill McCauley of Lubbock; two brothers, David McCauley of Lubbock and Cody McCauley of Dell City; and grandmother, Marie Moore of Lubbock. Oklahoma Reta Louise Richardson BOISE CITY, Okla. - Reta Louise Richardson, 69, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Derek Cox, pastor, and John O'Dell, FCA coordinator, officiating. Burial will be in Boise City Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary. Mrs. Richardson was born in Boise City. She attended Boise City schools and graduated from Boise City High School in 1945. She married Gene W. Richardson in 1946 at Clayton, N.M. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Dalhart Bowling League and WIBC. She coached the fifth-grade girls' basketball team. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Deb Crabtree, Pam Thrall and Sandy Wells, all of Boise City; two sons, Rod Richardson of Gardnerville, Nev., and Mike Richardson of Guymon; a sister, Dorothy Hallock of Springfield, Colo.; three brothers, Forrest Fisher of Woodward, H.R. Area Inocencio Sanchez BORGER - Inocencio "Blackie'' Sanchez, 64, died Sunday, August 3, 1997. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of the Fountains. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in St. John's Catholic Church by Monsignor Norbert Kuehler. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Mr. Sanchez was a native of Donna and had been a Borger resident for 41 years. He married Tina Sanchez in 1952 at Clovis, N.M. He owned Blackie's Construction Co. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe Ray Sanchez of San Antonio; six brothers, Espirio Landeros of Houston, Guirino Sanchez of Kileen, Lalo Landeros and Marcos Landeros, both of Bakersfield, Calif., Sontana Landeros of Dallas and Eduardo Landeros of Wisconsin; two sisters, Mary Reyes of Milwaukee and Martha Ramos of Stevens Point, Wis. J.T. Brown DUMAS - J.T. Brown, 83, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Vince Kolb, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Brown was born in Moore County and had been a lifelong Moore County resident. He farmed and ranched in the Middlewell community for many years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a longtime member of the Dumas Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a 50-year member of the Dumas Masonic Lodge. He was named Old Timer of the Year in 1992. Mr. Brown married his first wife, Ruth Watkins, in 1936. She died in 1971. He married Theresa Root in 1972 at Dumas. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Charmaine Robertson of Darrouzett; a son, Joe Brown of Dumas; a stepdaughter, Denise McDonald of Colleyville; a stepson, Raymond Root of Dumas; a brother, Charles E. Brown of Miami, Texas; a sister, Sue Betty Eden of Cottonwood, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will be 12 miles southwest of Dumas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. J.C. Sanders, pastor of Emmanuel Temple of San Antonio, officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens in Dimmitt. Arrangements are by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Mr. Sanders was born in Lockhart. He lived in Springlake before moving to Hereford in 1971. He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church. Mr. Sanders married Verdell Farmer in 1944 at Lockhart. He was preceded in death by a son, William Sanders Jr., in 1974. He was a student and a member of San Pablo Methodist Church. Survivors include his mother, Carmen Chavira of Hereford; his father, Frank Galvan of Vega; two brothers, Romero Arjona of Idaho and Frank Galvan III of Vega; two sisters, Angelica Resendez of Dimmitt and Elizabeth Lopez of Hereford; and grandparents, Maria Martinez of Hereford and Francisco Galvan of Vega. Manuel G. Gutierrez HEREFORD - Manuel G. Gutierrez, 63, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Country Road Church of God with the Rev. Woody Wiggins, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mr. Gutierrez was born in Monterrey, Mexico. He married Delia Olivarez in 1959 at Edcouch. He moved to Deaf Smith County in 1965 from Mercedes. He was a seed company employee for 22 years. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Norma Linda Gutierrez of Lubbock; three brothers, Joe Gutierrez of Mercedes, Gilberto Gutierrez of Monterrey and Able Gutierrez of San Juan; and two sisters, Maria Benavides of San Antonio and Jovita Guzman of Boerne. Nova Mae Miller PAMPA - Nova Mae Miller, 74, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Ms. Miller was born in Pushmataha County, Okla. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1960. She formerly was employed by Worley Hospital. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nova Marie Miller. Mercedes Jose Quintana PLAINVIEW - Mercedes Jose Quintana, 91, of Elberton, Ga., a former Plainview resident, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Glen Godsey, associate director of Baptist Missions Caprock/Plains, and the Rev. Santos Rodriquez, pastor of Iglesia Bautista Date Street, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Quintana was born in Fremont, Colo. He grew up in Fort Sumner, N.M., and Santa Rosa, N.M. He moved to the Hale Center area at an early age and worked as a sheep herder. He began working for Santa Fe Railway in 1919 and moved to Plainview in 1954. He retired from the railway in 1969 and worked for Hale County State Bank from 1969 to 1981. Mr. Quintana was one of the founders of the Mexican Mission Baptist Church in Hale Center, which was founded in 1939. He was a member of Iglesia Bautista Date Street. Mr. Quintana married Maria Flora Lucero in 1932. She died in 1981. Survivors include two daughters, Cecilia Q. Duran of Richmond and Dorothy Ortega of El Paso; a son, Patrick Quintana of Commerce, Ga.; a brother, Justo Quintana of Hale Center; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. A.B. Childers PERRYTON - A.B. "Mama Bug'' Childers, 90, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Ochiltree Cemetery with the Rev. Ted Latham officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Childers was born in Maylene, Ala. She moved from Little Rock, Ark., to Oklahoma City. She had lived in Perryton for 21/2 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manon E. Childers, in 1995. Survivors include a son, M.E. "Whit'' Childers of Perryton; a daughter, Sarah Mae Nix of Falcon Head, Okla.; a brother, Wayne Houston of Montevallo, Ala.; three sisters, Eva Doris Houston of Montevallo, Martha Edge of Miami, Fla., and Kathryn Holloway of Laurel, Miss.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
