Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Abney and the Rev. Gene Hawkins officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery at Stamford. Arrangements are by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mrs. Ashburn was born in Stamford and moved to Floyd County in 1948 from Stamford. She graduated from Luders High School. She was a housewife and a member of First Baptist Church of Lockney. She married Thomas William Ashburn in 1924 at Abilene. He died in 1970. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Bell, in 1974. Survivors include a son, Wayne Ashburn of Lockney; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Lockney. Earl Bell Cosby TULIA - Earl Bell Cosby, 77, died Monday, May 5, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Andy Blair, pastor, and the Rev. Janell Blair, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Cosby was born in Swisher County. He grew up in Tulia and attended school at Love Community School. He graduated from Tulia High School. He married Lou Rose Whitman in 1942 at Tulia. She died in 1996. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1941, serving until 1945, during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Tulia and worked for Joe Arnold service station. He then sold cars at T.L. Fore Motor Co. In 1954, he opened Earl Cosby Motor Co., selling Pontiacs, Buicks and GMC trucks. He also opened Earl Cosby Deep Well Service in 1954. He retired from both companies in 1982. He farmed and ranched since 1982, in Swisher and Castro counties. He was in several civic organizations, including Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Kiwanis. He was a trustee of the Redmon Foundation and was president of the hospital board when Swisher Memorial Hospital was built. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Tulia for more than 50 years. Survivors include a daughter, Connie Irlbeck of Tulia; a son, Don Cosby of Lubbock; and five grandchildren. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. today. The family requests memorials be to First Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity. Larry Hart PERRYTON - Larry Hart, 71, died Sunday, May 4, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the Church of Christ with Robert Moore and Terry G. Danley officiating. Burial will be at Hooker Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mr. Hart was born in Oakwood, Okla. He had lived in Perryton for 37 years. He was a parts man and mechanic for Ford vehicles. He married Jean Blehm in 1948 at Liberal, Kan. Survivors include his wife; a son, Tommy Hart of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Angie McDaniel of Hurst, and Robin McGarraugh of Perryton; a brother, Eldon Hart of O'Fallon, Mo.; two sisters, Naomi Foster of Langdon, Kan., and Connie Thompson of Socorro, N.M.; and six grandchildren. Asa Gilbert Smith BOVINA - Asa Gilbert Smith, 85, died Sunday, May 4, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Morgan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Terrace Cemetery in Farwell. Arrangements are by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born in Palestine. He moved to Parmer County in 1940 from Palestine. He managed the Shirley-Anderson Elevator in Lariat for many years. He had lived in Bovina since 1989. He married Lois Huffman in 1933 at Palestine. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry Smith of Bovina; three daughters, Shirley Ware of Bovina, Joy Stancell of Muleshoe, and Sylvia Hand of Great Falls, Mont.; a sister, Murlene Young of Lubbock; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Wenonah Boyles PADUCAH - Wenonah "Boots'' Boyles, 84, died Monday, May 5, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in the Paducah Church of Christ. Burial will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Boyles was born in Floyd, N.M. She came to Paducah in 1953, moving from Childress. She was a retired beautician and seamstress. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. She married Cecil Boyles in 1931 at New Mexico. He died in 1987. Survivors include three daughters, Sadie Marie Price and Reba Jo Gilbert, both of Paducah, and Glenna Dale Monk of Brownfield; nine grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. Mary Elizabeth Sanders PLAINVIEW - Mary Elizabeth Sanders, 75, died Monday, May 5, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Plainview Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Sanders was born in Clarendon and attended Clarendon schools. She married Dell Sanders in 1939 at Clarendon. He died in 1993 at Plainview. After her marriage, she moved to Borger. In 1942, she moved to Woodward, Okla. She moved to Amarillo in 1943 and to Plainview in 1944. She moved to Pampa in 1960 and to Tulia in 1965. She worked at Piggly Wiggly and was a rural mail carrier. She was active in bowling leagues. She moved to Halfway in 1987. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Dell Young of Halfway; two sons, Jim Sanders of San Angelo, and Jack Sanders of Amarillo; two sisters, Frankye Murcheski of Plainview, and Viles Ward of Hereford; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Charles Henry Jacobs PLAINVIEW - Charles Henry "Charlie'' Jacobs, 62, died Sunday, May 4, 1997. Military graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in the Plainview Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Huckabee, chaplain for Family Hospice of the Plains, officiating. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Jacobs was born in Flomot and attended schools in Flomot, Kress, Silverton and Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School. He married Shirley Chaney Jacobs in 1982 at Tishomingo, Okla. He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict. After his discharge, he returned to Plainview. He was the first fire marshal in Plainview. He retired from the Fire Department in 1975. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was commander of the American Legion Post No. 5399 in Plainview. He was also a member of the Open Heart Club since 1973. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Deborah Shook and Sharon Hinds, both of Arlington, and Sandra Januta of Plainview; a son, Mike Jacobs of Bedford; two brothers, Joe Jacobs of Plainview, and James Jacobs of Silverton; a sister, Christine Noble of Eunice, N.M.; seven grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Amarillo Hall Proctor Pendleton Hall Proctor Pendleton, 94, of Amarillo, died Sunday, May 4, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Park Cemetery with Regi Fowler, minister of music at Paramount Terrace Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Pendleton was born in Belton and was reared in the Tyler area. He moved to Borger in 1927, and to Amarillo in 1943. He married Velma Denson in 1927. She died in 1976. He married Ida Lee Cope in 1980. She died in 1992. He was manager of the accounting department of Southwestern Public Service Co. and retired in 1967 after 40 years of service. He was a member of First Christian Church, the congenial couples Sunday school class, Amarillo Senior Citizens Association and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Julia Anne Windecker of Rockport, and Sandra Wheeler of Amarillo; a sister, Sarah Willis of Tyler; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Edna Pollard Edna "Granny'' Pollard, 82, of Amarillo, died Sunday, May 4, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Mrs. Pollard was born in Pilot Point. She and her husband moved from East Texas to Amarillo in 1938. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She married E.H. Pollard in 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966, and a by son, Daniel Ray Pollard. Survivors include three daughters, Dora Hogan, Pat Pollard and Melinda "Linny'' Mann, all of Amarillo; two sons, Curtis Pollard and Jerry Pollard, both of Amarillo; four sisters, Doris Farmer of Fort Worth, Carrie Loving of Texas City, Linda Quattlebaum of Terrell, and Helen Sikes of Oriskny Falls, N.Y.; two brothers, Melvin Quattlebaum of Terrell, and Connie Quattlebaum of King George, Va.; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery at Memphis. Mrs. Smith was born in Eli, Hall County. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Memphis. She was also a member of the Eli Mother's Club and the Eli P.T.A. She was a homemaker. She married James Edward Smith in 1926 at Memphis. He died in 1950. Survivors include a son, James E. Smith of Garland; two daughters, Mattie Ruth Flowers of Lubbock, and Madge E. Flowers of Amarillo; a foster daughter, Dorothy Gauldin of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three foster great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and two foster great-great-grandchildren. Fields, 29, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 1, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Grover Neal, pastor, and the Rev. C.V. Smith of Holy Trinity C.O.G.I.C. officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Warford-Walker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St. Mr. Fields was born in Amarillo. He was educated in the public school system of Amarillo. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1986. He worked for Clark's Roofing and was a member of Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ. Survivors include a son, Darius Fields of Amarillo; his parents, Louise Fields and Arthur Fields, both of Amarillo; a sister, Vonda Fields of Amarillo; his grandparents, Bobby and Cora Smith of Amarillo, and Fern Jones of Clarendon; his great grandparents, B.W. and Beatrice Smith of Clarendon, and J.C. and Cora Giddings of Dallas. The family will be at 3812 Beaver Drive. Elsewhere Dwight Ferguson SNOWFLAKE, Ariz. - Dwight Ferguson, 69, a former Amarillo resident, died Thursday, May 1, 1997. Services will be Saturday in Glendale, Ariz. Arrangements are by Silver Creek Chapel Mortuary. Mr. Ferguson was born in Enid, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo from 1958 until 1975. While living in Amarillo, he was the terminal manager for Merchants Motor Lines. He moved to Arizona in 1975 to open a terminal for Merchants, retiring around 1990. He was a Marine Corps veteran. Survivors include his wife, Penny; a daughter, Chris Wheeler of Detroit; two stepdaughters, Doireann Mott and Sarah Mott, both of Mesa; four sons, Brad Ferguson, Michael Ferguson and Clay Ferguson, all of Amarillo, and Jason Ferguson, of Lewisville, Texas; a sister, Arlene Brown of Denver; a brother, Allan Ferguson of Tulsa, Okla.; and 11 grandchildren. Lake Leonard Black EASTERLY - Lake Leonard Black, 77, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at Bryan. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in Blair-Stubbs-McCauley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. C.E. Barnett of Southside Baptist Church of Franklin officiating. Burial was in the Black family cemetery. Mr. Black was born in Childress. He was a rancher and moved to Franklin two years ago from Amarillo. He was a Baptist. He served in the Army infantry. He married Dorothy Ray in 1944. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lance Black of Richwood and Rod Black of McKinney; a stepbrother, Tony King of Dangerfield; and three grandsons. Bernard Galbraith FORT WORTH - Bernard Galbraith, 78, died Friday, May 2, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Quanah Memorial Park. Memorial services will be after the burial at 3 p.m. in First United Methodist Church in Quanah, with the Rev. Jesse Dea and the Rev. Don Wirsdorfer officiating. Arrangements are by Price-Jackson Funeral Home of Quanah. Mr. Galbraith was born in Kirkland. During the last 50 years, he and his wife owned grocery stores in Crowell, Cisco and Fort Worth. They also owned a wholesale distribution truck grocery service before retiring in 1990. In 1966, he inherited a Quanah landmark that housed many businesses over the years. During this past year they had renovated and refurbished the landmark, built in 1890. He was a member of Westcliff United Methodist Church. He married Nolene Modgling in 1939 at Childress. She died in 1997. He is survived by a sister, Jick Sansom of Quanah. Nolene M. Galbraith FORT WORTH - Nolene M. Galbraith, 75, died Sunday, May 4, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Quanah Memorial Park. Memorial services will be after the burial at 3 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Quanah, with the Rev. Jesse Dea and the Rev. Don Wirsdorfer officiating. Arrangements are by Price-Jackson Funeral Home of Quanah. Mrs. Galbraith was born in Quanah. She had lived in Fort Worth for many years, moving from Cisco. She married Bernard W. Galbraith in 1939 at Childress. He died in 1997. She is survived by a sister, Jo Ann Howard of Quanah. Nita Holland LUBBOCK - Nita Holland, 65, died Sunday, May 4, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Oakwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. James G. Nunn, the Rev. Jim Jackson, the Rev. Billy Pierson and the Rev. Charley Pierson officiating. Burial will be at Plainview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Holland was born in Rock Creek. She was raised in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School. She worked for Irby's Department Store. She had lived in Olton for several years. She worked at Farmer's Coop Gin in Springlake. She was employed by Garrison Oil Co. in Plainview from 1980 until she retired. She was active in the March of Dimes, the "Second Helping'' program of the First United Methodist Church, the Boys and Girls Club. She was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church and the Thursday morning prayer group. She married Nolan Holland in 1954 at Plainview. He died in 1990. Survivors include a son, Boyd Holland of Round Rock; a daughter, Danita "Dani'' Blythe of Lubbock; a brother, Homer Dudley of Plainview; six sisters, Alma Pierson of Farwell, Dora Biggerstaff of Wolfforth, Fay Harmon and Lenora Pierson, both of Hereford, Jimmie Crabtree of Muleshoe, and Lurine Dudley of Plainview; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. New Mexico Vernie Burns PORTALES, N.M. - Vernie Burns, 91, died Sunday, May 4, 1997, at Pueblo, Colo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Portales Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Horton officiating. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary Inc. Mrs. Burns was born in Roger Mills County, Okla., and moved with her family to Portales around 1938. She worked at Portales Valley Mills and also at the Borden Peanut Co., as a sorter. She also worked as a housekeeper at the local hospital. She was a self-taught artist in oils. She married Roy Burns in 1925 at Roger Mills County. Around 1952, she and her husband moved to Pueblo, where they lived until 1957, when they returned to Portales. He died in 1972. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Cecil Leroy Burns and Otis Darrell Burns. Survivors include three daughters, Agnes Roverta Bird of Fruita, Colo., Tressie Fay Doughtie of Fort Worth, Texas, and Nannie Lea Langley of Pueblo, Colo.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Margurea Shaw HAGERMAN, N.M. - Margurea "Margaret'' Shaw, 81, died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at Roswell. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church at Melrose with the Rev. David Wilkins officiating. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery at Melrose. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Shaw was born in Nocona, Texas. She married K. Shaw in 1934 at Clovis. They moved in 1935 to Melrose, where she lived until moving to Hagerman in 1995. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Melrose. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Patricia Ann Shaw. Survivors include two sons, Bill Shaw of Hagerman and Gary Shaw of Bettendorf, Iowa; three daughters, Betty Morgan of Friona, Texas, Barbara Hughes of Bovina, Texas, and Sheryl Nation of Wellington, Texas; three brothers, Foy Bailey and Jake Bailey, both of Clovis, and Don Bailey of Hobbs; three sisters, Evelyn Ohrmann of Baltimore, Bessie Rose of Ventura, Calif., and Lorene Tate of Ranchvale; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
