Mrs. White was born in Lawton, Okla., and had lived in Borger for 68 years. She was a retired secretary for Phillips Petroleum Co. and Gibson Machine and Tool Co. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. She also was a Golden Plains Community Hospital volunteer. She married W.C. White in 1985 at Borger. Survivors include her husband; a son, William C. White Jr. of Borger; seven daughters, Shannon Baldwin of Comanche, Okla., Shelley Smith of Anderson, Mo., Nona White of Amarillo, Cecile Clendennen, Melba White and Pat Tracy, all of Borger, and Yvonne Blue of Dumas; a sister, Eileen Coyne of Borger; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Inez Naifeh Shadid MEMPHIS - Inez Naifeh Shadid, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997. Mrs. Shadid was born in Kiefer, Okla. She married John Shadid in 1952 at Oklahoma City. They owned a clothing business in Memphis for many years. Her husband died in 1983. She was very instrumental in the organization of Meals on Wheels and also was active in all aspects of the church. She was a member of the hospital auxiliary, two bridge clubs and various social groups in Memphis. She was a Methodist. Survivors include a daughter, Terri Sears of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Julia Eddy of Kansas City, Kan., and Emogean Cohlmia of Dallas; and a granddaughter. Lois Ethridge MULESHOE - Lois Ethridge, 79, a former Muleshoe resident, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. H.D. Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Ethridge was born in Rotan. She married Ralph Ethridge in 1935 at Afton. He died in 1979. Joe Lee Thomas FLOYDADA - Joe Lee "Chief" Thomas, 80, of Crosbyton, a former Floydada resident, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997. He moved to Floydada in 1976 from Brinkman, Okla. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Sethward Baptist Church in Plainview. Tessie D. Clark WHEELER - Tessie D. Clark, 90, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Wheeler Cemetery with the Rev. Toby Henson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Clark was born in Desdemona. She was an accomplished designer and seamstress. She owned and operated Tessie's Toggery in Fort Smith, Ark., and Wheeler. She married Cecil Clark in 1948 at Fort Smith. He died in 1987. Survivors include three brothers, Tony Griffin and Al Griffin, both of Wheeler, and Joe Griffin of Pampa; and two sisters, Mayme Jessie Fisher of Helena, Mont., and Sarah Loiselle of Salt Lake City. Marion Thomas Pitts DUMAS - Marion Thomas Pitts, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Northlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Minnie B. Woolverton PLAINVIEW - Minnie B. Woolverton, 99, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997. Miss Woolverton was born in Browns Valley, Ind. She worked in the district clerk's office at Hale County Courthouse for several years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a niece and a nephew. Anna Lee Appling CLAUDE - Anna Lee Appling, 96, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Claude United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Crumpton of the church officiating. Private burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, in Amarillo. Mrs. Appling was born in Wolfe City. The family moved in 1912 to Abernathy where she attended school. She later attended West Texas Normal School and became a second grade teacher at Claude in the early 1920s. She was an employee of the Claude postal service for 25 years before retiring in 1970. She married Carl C. Appling in 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, David Appling; and a daughter, Dorothy J. Cox. Survivors include a son, Donald C. Appling of Amarillo; two grandsons; and a great-grandson. He died in 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of Forrest Hill Assembly of God. Survivors include a son, Robert O'Bryan of Cambridge, Minn.; three daughters, Judith Sexton of Amarillo, Elaine Blake of Bryan, Ill., and Margery Henderson of Harrison, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Oklahoma LaWanda Moore GUYMON, Okla. - LaWanda "Diane" Moore, 44, a former Guymon resident, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, in Oklahoma City. Mrs. Moore was born in Guymon and raised in the Panhandle area, graduating from Hardesty High School in 1970. She married Ronald Moore in 1974 at Taos, N.M. They had made their home in Oklahoma City for the past six years where she was employed as an administrative executive for the Locke-Wright Associates Architectural Firm. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Misty Shawn of Palmer, Alaska; three sons, Michael Lynn Stephens of Dallas, Anthony Wayne Moore of Guymon and William Ray Moore of South Carolina; her parents, Alene and Herman Hintergardt of Guymon; a sister, Susan Ronne of Guymon; two brothers, Paul Hintergardt and Tim Hintergardt, both of Guymon; and a grandson. New Mexico Howard William Gore CLOVIS, N.M. - Howard William Gore, 89, of Nokesville, Va., a former Clovis resident, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in The Chapel with James E. Jackson, past exalted ruler of Clovis/Portales Elks Lodge No. 1244, officiating. Masonic graveside services will be in the Elida Cemetery at Elida by Lodge No. 40 AF&AM of Clovis. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Gore was born in New Mexico Territory. He married Maudie Merle Lucas in 1935 at Elida. He rode the range punching cattle in his early years. He later became an auto mechanic and ran the Jet Test Cell Unit at Cannon Air Force Base. In 1956 he built the Zia Lodge and Restaurant. He was a past exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge No. 1244 and a master Mason with the Masonic Lodge No. 40 AF&AM. He also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Wimodausis Chapter No. 106 in Manassas, Va., the Scottish Rite Valley of Santa Fe Orient of New Mexico, the Ballut Abyad Temple AAONMS of Albuquerque and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Clovis. He was preceded in death by a son, Howard W. Gore Jr. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Faye Anne Baerenz of Nokesville; a sister, Alvina Ertel of Paradise, Calif.; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren. Elsewhere John A. They moved to the Roaring Springs area from Kent County in 1941. He was a retired farmer and stockman and a member of First Baptist Church of Roaring Springs. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Scott of Lubbock and Joe Scott of Dumas; a daughter, Dianne Washington of Flomot; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Lora Biggerstaff LUBBOCK - Lora Biggerstaff, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the W.W. Rix Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. John Wilson, associate pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Jim Gordy, pastor of Town West Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the city of Lubbock Cemetery. Mrs. Biggerstaff was born in Atoka, Okla. She was a resident of Lubbock from 1947 until moving to Midland in 1973. She moved to Waco in 1996. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was a foster parent from 1963 to 1973 for the Lubbock County Child Welfare Service. She married Ceph Henry Biggerstaff in 1923 at Seymour. He died in 1962. She also was preceded in death by a son, James Biggerstaff, in 1972; and two daughters, Judy Kay Biggerstaff in 1948 and Jewel Lewis in 1988. Survivors include a son, Donnie Biggerstaff of Irving; five daughters, Rowena Parker of Amarillo, Polly Stewart and Nina Bowles, both of Lubbock, Bonnie Barnes of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Sharion Moore of Waco; a sister, Lorene Moore of Canton; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
