Mitchell CLOVIS, N.M. - Gerald C. Mitchell, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in University Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Smith and the Rev. Jim Wilkerson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Dora, by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mr. Mitchell was born in Eldorado, Okla., and moved to the Pep community in 1937. He helped run the Pep Store for a year. He married Miriam Cox in 1938 at Clovis. In 1939, they moved to Clovis, where he worked for J.M. Radford Wholesale Grocery. In 1941, they moved back to Pep and farmed for about 20 years. In 1960, he began working full time as a carpenter and continued that type of work until retiring in 1975. He also worked in the Dora schools as a maintenance man for about 10 years. Mr. Mitchell served as a president of the Dora Senior Citizens for several years. He was a member and an active deacon in First Baptist Church of Dora. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Travis Mitchell of Sedro Woolley, Wash., Frank Mitchell of Littleton, Colo., and Stephen Mitchell of Carrollton, Texas; two daughters, Geraldine Dunsworth of Portales and Sandra Downing of Martin, Tenn.; two brothers, Carl Mitchell of Yuba City, Calif., and Basil Mitchell of Hereford, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Marie Graham CLOVIS, N.M. - Marie Graham, 74, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997. Services will be at 7:30 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Davis officiating. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sandia Memorial Gardens at Albuquerque. Mrs. Graham was born in Austin, Texas. She moved to Clovis in 1988 from Albuquerque. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3280 Ladies Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Graham. Magdalene Marie Liles CLOVIS, N.M. - Magdalene Marie Liles, 95, died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Mike Eddy officiating. Mrs. Liles was born in Lake Mills, Wis. She moved to Los Angeles in 1920 and lived there until moving to Clovis in 1984. Her first job was in a hand grenade factory during World War I. She worked as a bookkeeper for an oil company until she was 72. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Siloam Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married Morrison Liles in 1932 at Yuma, Ariz. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Smith of Clovis and Mary Joan Tennent of California; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Canyon John Howard Tockey John Howard Tockey, 67, of Canyon, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997. Memorial services will be at a later date at First Nazarene Church at Hays, Kan. Cremation was by Memory Gardens Crematory in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Tockey was born in Alliance, Neb. He completed his public education in Howard County, Neb., and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Friends University in Wichita, Kan. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He worked for Federal Civil Service for 34 years and for Quality Assurance at Bell Helicopter in Amarillo for 21 years. Mr. Tockey attended First Nazarene Church in Hays. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Delores Tockey; a son, Timothy Rex Tockey of Crestview, Fla.; three daughters, Sharon Michelle Allen of Palatka, Fla., Amber Kay Feagin of Franklin, N.C., and Beth Evelyn Williams of Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Zoe of Grand Island, Neb.; and 11 grandchildren. Elsewhere Hudson Saul IDALOU - Hudson Saul, 77, of Waco, a former Idalou resident, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Gray, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery at Plainview by White Funeral Home. Mrs. Saul was born in Flomot. She had lived in Idalou. She married Leroy Saul in 1939 at Plainview. He died in 1992. Mrs. Saul graduated from Silverton High School. She attended Wayland Baptist Church and graduated from West Texas State University. She taught school in Kress for many years before retiring in 1981. Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Kolb of Portland; two sons, Weymon of Austin and Chuck of Waco; one brother, Pascal Garrison of Silverton; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Louie Fiel GAGE, Okla. - Louie Fiel, 55, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Gage school auditorium with the Rev. Ed Eason officiating. Burial will be in Gage Memorial Cemetery by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Shattuck. Mr. Fiel was born in Higgins, Texas. He moved to Grove in 1947 and returned to the Higgins area when he was 17. He married Kay Stahlman in 1964 at Higgins. They made their home in Higgins until moving to Gage in 1975. Mr. Fiel worked for Bybee Water Well and Drilling Co. for 12 years. He then began Fiel Water Well Service and had operated it for the past 21 years. He was a member of Woodward Moose Lodge No. 452. He also was active with the Oklahoma Kids organization, helping to set up shows for performances in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas. He was selected at Oklahoma Kids Father of the Year in 1990. They owned and operated The House of Bargains from 1954 until 1971, when she retired. Mr. Hunter died in 1972. Mrs. Hunter was a member of Quail Creek Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. He was a longtime Amarillo resident. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. He also was a life insurance underwriter. He was a member of San Jacinto United Methodist Church. Mr. Brisbin was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, in 1990; and a son, Harold S. Brisbin, in 1996. Survivors include two granddaughters, Dr. Cindy Holt of Fort Worth and Sandy Brisbin of Amarillo; daughter-in-law, Sharon Brisbin of Amarillo; a sister, Cleo Messer of Wellington; and a great-granddaughter. She moved with her family to Hollis, Okla., where she attended public school. In 1945, she moved to Amarillo from Hollis. She worked for the the Ben Stone Jr. family for more than 40 years. Adams St. Roy Alvis Yarbrough Roy Alvis Yarbrough, 90, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Yarbrough was born in Marquez. He was raised on a farm at Wolf Flat, southeast of Turkey, Texas. He lived in Childress for 40 years before moving to Amarillo in 1980. He was manager of Gate City Electric Co-op of Childress from 1940 until 1976 and was instrumental in helping to establish electric co-ops in several foreign countries. He had been a civic leader in Childress, serving on boards of numerous organizations. He was past president of the National Electric Co-op Association and a member of First Baptist Church of Childress. He also was a Mason. Mr. Yarbrough married Nola Sherman in 1931 at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1987. He married Glada Webb in 1988 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Edna Earle Hansen of West Memphis, Ark.; three brothers, Woody Yarbrough and Lewis Yarbrough, both of Amarillo, and Delton Yarbrough of Fort Stockton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a stepson, Wayne Webb of Fairfax, Va.; a stepdaughter, Glanell Webb of Norfolk, Va.; and three stepgrandchildren. She attended the Amarillo College School of Nursing and worked as a nurse's aide in the health-care profession. Mrs. Knaff was a member of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church. Survivors include her father, Julius Johnson of Hollis, Okla.; her mother, Maxine Minor of Temple; a son, Robert Knaff of Amarillo; a daughter, Lisa Knaff of Amarillo; five sisters, Jelia L. Mrs. McCrory was born in Louisville, Ky., and had lived in Amarillo since 1967. She was administrative assistant at West Texas A&M University. She was a member of the Esther McCrory Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Anthony's Auxiliary, Delta Zeta Alumnae and St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mrs. McCrory was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul McCrory, in 1956. She moved to Amarillo in the 1950s to work for Southwestern Public Service Co. She retired after working for several years in the cafeterias at Rolling Hills, Willow Creek and River Road schools. She also worked several summers at Bishop Quarterman Conference Center. She was married to Ernest E. Perry for 37 years before he died seven years ago. She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy. Mr. Hernandez was born in Amarillo and had lived in Irving for a year. He graduated from Price College in 1958. He also attended Amarillo College. He retired from Santa Fe Railway after 32 years as a contract specialist. He was a contract supervisor for Cattelus Management Corp. at the time of his death. He was a member of the Amarillo Chapter of Southwest Football, Baseball and Softball Officials. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Coppell. He was founder of the Ushers Association at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mr. Hernandez married Amalia Cruz in 1963 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Greg Hernandez of Lubbock; a daughter, Janelle Buchanan of Irving; a brother, Robert Hernandez of Amarillo; four sisters, Trini Martinez, Aurora Hernandez, Celia Alarid and Felicitas Diaz, all of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. Mr. Harlan was born in Graham. He moved to Amarillo in 1977 from Clayton. He was a self-employed rancher. He married Geraldine Harlan in 1930. They owned and operated the Mayfield Hotel in Clayton for 18 years. Mrs. Harlan died in 1991. Survivors include a son, Donald L. Harlan of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Doris L. He married Gladys Shreve in 1942 at Vega. Mr. Brown served with the Army from 1943 to 1945. He worked for the Texas Highway Department as an expressway supervisor in maintenance construction. He was a Baptist and a charter member of the Lions Club in Gruver. He was a member of the Gruver Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Louise Brown, in 1943. He moved to the Perryton area three years ago from Dachart, Nev. He had been a farmer and rancher in Colorado and Minnesota. He married Doris Duerst in 1950 at Denver. Survivors include his wife; and three sisters, Nadine Napes of Ellensburg, Wash., Bernice Jeffris of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Opal Whittaker of Gate, Okla. J.C. Patton SHAMROCK - J.C. Patton, 75, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Moorewood Baptist Church at Moorewood, Okla., with Rev. Joe G. Jernigan, pastor of Calvary Christian Fellowship Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Patton married Hazel J. Ramsey in 1942. They lived in Moorewood for 13 years and later moved to Kiowa, Kan., where they spent the next 20 years. In 1978, they moved to Woodward, Okla., and lived there until March, when they moved to Shamrock. Mr. Patton was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ron Patton of Shamrock, Bob Patton of Cheney, Kan., and J.C. Patton Jr. of Woodward; three daughters, Hazel Hendrix of Hutchinson, Kan., Virginia Saldana of Austin and Patti Hager of Liberal, Kan.; a brother, Robert Patton of Skiatook, Okla.; two sisters, Lorena Kincaid of Clinton, Okla., and Lula Bray of Leedey, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Before moving to Groom 45 years ago, he lived in Dimmitt, Brownwood and Abilene. He was a farmer, rancher and cattle broker for most of his life. He was a member of the Groom Masonic Lodge and First United Methodist Church. He married Betty Farley in 1940 at Groom. She died in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Burroughs of Abilene; three sons, Jim Hudson of Austin, Thomas Hudson of Prairie Village, Kan., and Dr. Carl Hudson of Borger; a sister, Helen Dever of San Angelo; and five grandchildren. He was a butcher and owned and operated the Holiday Meat Market in Lubbock for several years. He had lived in Childress for the past four years. He served with the Air Force during the Korean War, serving as a military policeman. Lorena L. Austin CLAUDE - Lorena L. Austin, 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Shad Rue, interim pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd., in Amarillo. Mrs. Austin was born near Washburn. She attended school in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo College. At the age of 18, she moved to the August Palm Homestead. She married John Ennis Benson in 1946. Mr. Benson died in 1958, and she managed their farm. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynette. She married Oliver E. Austin in 1959. He died in 1986. Jack Knight Wederbrook HEREFORD - Jack Knight Wederbrook, 80, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in West Park Cemetery with the Rev. John B. Gaston of First Assembly of God and the Rev. David Morris officiating. Arrangements are by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mr. Wederbrook was born in Hereford and had been a lifelong Deaf Smith County resident. He married Meta Layman in 1938 at Portales, N.M. He was a painter and a member of the Assembly of God and the Hereford Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Wederbrook was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was inducted in 1943 and was discharged in 1945 at San Pedro, Calif., as a motor machinist's mate third class. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with one star, the American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation decoration and the Victory Medal. Survivors include his wife; a son, Roy Wederbrook of Saginaw; two sisters, Patricia Hartnett of Amarillo and Vira Jones of Dumas; and a brother, Vernon Wederbrook of Crescent City, Calif. The family requests memorials be to the Hereford Care Center. Richard Cagle TULIA - Richard Cagle, 63, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Travis LaDuke, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Cagle was born and raised in Tulia. He graduated from Tulia High School. He married Cloyrene Matlock in 1969 at Canadian. Mr. Cagle owned a masonry contracting business in Tulia for several years. He was the tri-state foreman for Allsup's convenience stores from 1980 to 1989. He had been a deputy sheriff for Swisher County since 1989. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Texas National Guard. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 733 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite in Lubbock and the Khiva Temple Shrine. Mr. Cagle had served with the Tulia Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, serving as chief for eight years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kent Cagle of Duncanville and Rick Cagle of Canyon; his mother, Audie Mitchell of Tulia; a sister, Linda Cloyd of Stratford; and two grandchildren.
