Romero SUDAN - Antonio R. Romero, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by the Rev. Joseph Augustine, pastor. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery at Amherst. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mr. Romero was born in Mexico. He moved to Sudan in 1977 from Stanton. He was a farmer. He married Bonnie Reyna in Gonzales. She died in 1991. Survivors include a son, Ramon Romero of Sudan; three daughters, Connie Cavados of Muleshoe, Lupe Diaz of Dallas and Susie Gonzales of Coahoma; a sister, Elivire Rios of California; 25 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Robert Garlington MULESHOE - Robert Garlington, 53, of San Francisco and Oakland, Calif., died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Muleshoe Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Watson and Reydon Stanford of Christian Center officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Garlington was born in Albuquerque, N.M. He had lived in San Francisco and Oakland since 1972. He was a graduate of West Texas State University, where he was chaplain of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He also was a member of the Senate and of the ROTC. Mr. Garlington was the art director of Astro World. Survivors include his mother, Ethel Garlington Murray of Muleshoe; a sister, Sandra Edge of Farmington, N.M.; and two brothers, Loyd Garlington of Muleshoe and Jerry Garlington of Bloomfield, N.M. Ida Faye Whitten MEMPHIS - Ida Faye Whitten, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997. Services were at 2 p.m. today in Travis Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Reid officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery by Spicer Funeral Home. Mrs. Whitten was born in Hall County and had lived there all of her life. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Cecil Whitten in 1933 at Plaska. He died in 1996. Survivors include four sons, Raymond Whitten of Livingston, Warren Whitten of Memphis, Bill Whitten of Irving and Randy Whitten of Seymour; two brothers, Clifford Dean of Newcastle, Okla., and Odis Dean of McAllen; a sister, Gladys Auwen of California; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. James Ray Bruce CLARENDON - James Ray Bruce, 49, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997. He had been a carpenter most of his life. He was a Marine veteran of Vietnam. He married Michele Denise Rivard in 1978 at Virginia City, Nev. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Andrea Coxey of Sterling City; two sons, Christopher Bruce and Michael Bruce, both of Clarendon; his mother, Norma Bruce of Clarendon; and two sisters, Sonyia Hill and Sharyn Morrow, both of Clarendon. Claudio Medeles Charles LOCKNEY - Claudio Medeles Charles, 62, of Ralls, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, in Lubbock. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Monday in Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in San Jose Catholic Church by Monsignor Tim Schwertner. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery. Mr. Charles was born in La Groulla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gela Salas, in 1996. He also was preceded in death by a son, Claudio Charles Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Felipa Sustaita of Bryan and Rosa Cedillo of Plainview; two brothers, Joe Charles of Lockney and Vicente Charles of Mission; three sisters, Otila Martinez of Lockney, Catalina Vanegas of Waco and Rosa Villareal of Lubbock; and eight grandchildren. Sylvia Kennedy-Meek PAMPA - Sylvia Kennedy-Meek, 76, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Richard Coffman, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Kennedy-Meek was born in Ada, Okla. She moved to Pampa in 1942 from Snider, Okla. She married Ernest Meek in 1977 at Pampa. She worked as a waitress for several restaurants before retiring from the Black Gold Restaurant in 1994. She also worked for Pete Bond Processing Co. for 20 years. She was a member of McCullough Street Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Jeanie Bryan, Jolene Howard and Brenda Lambright, all of Pampa; four brothers, Bob Weldon of Pampa, Bill Weldon and Floyd Weldon, both of Fort Cobb, Okla., and Ronnie Weldon of Mesquite; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Chas. Vance Stickley CANADIAN - Chas. Vance Stickley, 89, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Edith Ford Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Smelser, senior minister at First Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mr. Stickley was born in Canadian. He owned and operated Stickley Funeral Home until retiring in 1975. He was a master carpenter and a member of First Christian Church. He married Alma LaVerne Cross in 1927 at Miami. Survivors include a daughter, Pat Hill of Canadian; two nephews, Bill Cross of Canadian and James Cross of Little Rock, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren. He moved to Amarillo this year from Lubbock. He had owned a string of hotels including Maytag Hotel in Newton, Iowa, and Ramada Inn in Carlsbad, N.M. He married Naomi Brown in 1939. Davis of Sweetwater; four daughters, Janice Woodburn of Flagstaff, Ariz., Georgina Taylor and Beth Beal, both of Amarillo, and Deborah Littleton of Flowermound; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He attended Christ Lutheran Church. He married Edna Noyes in 1991 at Amarillo. Richardson Vivian Barton Richardson, 76, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Coulter Road Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Payne of the church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Richardson was born in Pretty Prairie, Kan. She moved to Amarillo in 1966 from Keyes, Okla. She married Garner W. "Rich'' Richardson in 1946 at Raton, N.M. Mrs. Richardson graduated from school in Hutchinson, Kan. She was a self-employed beautician and a member of various bridge clubs, the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association and Coulter Road Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sondra "Sandy'' Milford, in 1993. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Diane York and Jackie Ashlock, both of Amarillo, and Linda Newell of Pampa; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice or the American Cancer Society. New Mexico Leygia Woody CLOVIS, N.M. - Leygia Woody, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in West 21st Street Church of Christ with Skip Clark and Cecil Bunch officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Woody was born in Farmersville, Texas. She moved to the Center community with her husband, Layton, in 1927. They farmed there for 70 years. Mrs. Woody also worked for Singleterry Hardware for many years. She was a member of West 21st Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Voges of Clovis; a son, Truman L. Woody of Clovis; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Rose Landreth CLOVIS, N.M. - Rose Landreth, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Melrose Cemetery at Melrose with the Rev. David Crow officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Landreth was born in Athens, Okla., and had lived in Clovis since 1960. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Landreth. Survivors include two daughters, Marion Wilson of Portales and Carol Roberts of Washington, Okla.; two sons, Jerry Landreth of Lubbock, Texas, and Larry Landreth of Clovis; a sister, Belle Turner of Canton, Texas; a brother, Carroll Donham of Grants Pass, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Charlotte Nell Cobo ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Charlotte Nell Urban Cobo, 34, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today in the First United Methodist Church sanctuary with Dr. Bill Sylskar, the Rev. David Swann and the Rev. Jack Webb officiating. Graveside services for the family will precede the memorial services in Mission Garden of Memories. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Cobo was born in Clovis. She graduated with honors from Clovis High School in 1981. She received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Eastern New Mexico University in 1986. She married Carlos in 1983. They moved to Tempe, Ariz. She taught mathematics at Willis Junior High School in Chandler, Ariz. They lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, before moving to Albuquerque in 1996. While living in Corpus Christi, Mrs. Cobo was church pianist for Church of Acts. After moving to Albuquerque, she was pianist for Church on the Rock. She was a volunteer at Marie Hughes Elementary School. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Christi and Camille; her parents, John and Mary Nell Urban of Clovis; two brothers, Kenny Urban of Oklahoma City and Johnny Urban of Tulsa, Okla.; and grandmothers, Katherine McCullough of Clovis and Beatriz de Cobo of Cali, Colombia, South America. Elsewhere Jack B. Harris MCALLEN - Jack "Sleepy'' Harris, 75, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997. Services were at 10 a.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Singleton officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Breckenridge. Arrangements are by Kreidler Funeral Home. Mr. Harris was born in Hill County and had lived in the Valley for 23 years. He was a retired school administrator and football coach. He graduated from Breckenridge High School, where he played football and was an all-state end. He attended the University of Texas on a football scholarship in 1940 but his education was interrupted by World War II. Mr. Harris was a first lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He later earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Hardin Simmons University, where he was a member of the unbeaten 1946 football team. Mr. Harris had been a football coach at various high schools in Texas and at West Texas State University. He also scouted football talent for various professional teams and helped to sign free agents. He was a principal at Sharyland High School before retiring. He also was in the real estate business. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He and Zelma "Cupie'' had been married for 55 years. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Priscilla Cook of Amarillo; a brother, Louis Harris of Tucson; three grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
