Carlyle Lillie M. Carlyle, 77, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997. Private graveside services will be Monday in Wheeler Cemetery at Wheeler. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Ms. Carlyle was born in Wheeler and had been a lifetime resident of the Panhandle. She moved to Amarillo in 1951 from Wheeler. She worked as a secretary and clerk for the city of Wheeler. She also worked as a secretary for a car dealership in Borger and Dumas. She was a Baptist. Survivors include a nephew, William T. "Billy'' McClain Jr. of Amarillo. The body will not be available for viewing. Thomas Aubra Nelson Thomas Aubra Nelson, 52, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Windell Taylor, chaplain at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Nelson was born in Corpus Christi. He was a veteran of the Air Force. Bowers-Campbell, 41, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. V.P. Perry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St. Ms. Bowers-Campbell was born in Amarillo. She attended school at Carver Elementary and Carver High School. She worked as an assembler for Hunicutt Enterprises in Minneapolis. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Bobbie Lee of Amarillo; a son, Roy E. Campbell of Dallas; a daughter, Constance Denise Campbell of Minneapolis; three brothers, Robert D. Bowers Jr., Dwight Earl Bowers and Kenneth D. Bowers, all of Minneapolis; three sisters, Arlene Davis and Audrey Elaine Bowers, both of Minneapolis, and Delores DShena of Los Angeles; and 10 grandchildren. The family will be at 406 N. Hughes St. Donald William Bergmann Donald William Bergmann, 60, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Alan Burkhalter of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Bergmann was born in Menasha, Wis. He moved to Amarillo in 1956 from Hortonville, Wis. He was employed as a machinist. He was a former race car driver, designer and builder. He was the former owner of Precision Machine Shop and Bergmann Engineering. He was the inventor of "Ripoffs.'' Mr. Bergmann was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1958 and was stationed at Amarillo Air Force Base from 1956 to 1958. He was an airman first class. Survivors include his ex-wife, Janice Hammack of Amarillo; two sons, Mike Bergmann of Plano and David Bergmann of Amarillo; two daughters, Victoria Gross of Amarillo and Margaret Hamill of Lubbock; his mother, Margaret Bergmann of Appleton, Wis.; a brother, Huntz Bergmann of Hortonville; and three sisters, Joan Manley of Fort Collins, Colo., Linda Hogan of Austin and Helen Timms of Appleton, Wis. He married Virgie Houston in 1937 at Hollis, Okla. He was employed as an equipment manager with Gilvin-Terrill for 35 years. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a Methodist. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Wilma of Amarillo; a foster daughter, JoAnn; three grandchildren; and a foster grandchild. Charles Edward Dills Charles Edward Dills, 68, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenhill Cemetery at Muskogee, Okla. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Dills was born in Muskogee and graduated from Muskogee High School in 1947. He attended Oklahoma City Union. He worked in an Oklahoma City abstract office until retiring. He moved to Amarillo in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Muskogee. Johnson, 75, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Unity on the High Plains Church with the Rev. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He attended Denver University and Texas Tech University. He owned Johnson Jewelry in Plainview and later was a manager for several Zales stores in Texas. He retired in 1984. He moved to Amarillo from Dallas in 1992. He was a member of Unity on the High Plains Church. Survivors include a son, Robert H. Johnson Jr. of Seattle; a sister, Mildred Willoughby of Amarillo; and a brother, James Martin Johnson Jr. of Eugene, Ore. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Herbert Marr Herbert Marr, 66, of 4420 Kingston Road, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997. Mr. Marr was born in Grandview. He attended public school in Grandview and Cleburne. He served in the Army and was discharged in 1948. He married Sonya Cole in 1951 at Cleburne. He worked in the aircraft industry for 39 years. He first worked for Chance Vought Aircraft in Grand Prairie. In 1959, he began working for Bell Helicopter Textron in Hurst, Amarillo and the Middle East. He retired as a general superintendent in 1990. Mr. Marr moved to Amarillo in 1968. He bowled with the men's senior league at Amarillo Bowl. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Paula Wilkerson and Sheri Cates, both of Amarillo, and Lisa Waldon of Arlington; his mother, Mildred Marr of Cleburne; two sisters, Melba Bullard of Cleburne and Bennie Jo Payne of Dallas; and 13 grandchildren. The family will be at 4420 Kingston Road. Charles Amos Grewell Charles Amos "Chuck'' Grewell, 81, of 3515 Langtry, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Grewell was born in West Liberty, W.Va. He married Geneva Garrison in 1936 at West Liberty. She died in 1984. He joined the Army in 1943 and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was the town constable in Warwood, W.Va. He moved to Borger in 1949 and worked in the oil field. He later worked as a security guard at Pantex. He retired in 1976. He moved to Amarillo in 1981. He married Mary McGuire in 1984 at Amarillo. He was a member of Mended Hearts Chapter No. 54, the NRA, the State Troopers Association and the National Guards Union. Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Grewell of Thornton, Colo.; a brother, Jack Grewell of Winder, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Shirley Casida of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was a building contractor. He was a member of the Panhandle Boat and Ski Club and the Panhandle Builders Association. He also was a member Westway Community Church. He married Pat Pearson in 1960. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Tina Freeman of Waco, and Jamie Broom and Amy Melton, both of Amarillo; a sister, Patty Ragan of Amarillo; and six grandchildren. Elsewhere Sister Roberta Hyland FORT SMITH, Ark. - Sister Roberta Hyland, 92, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997. Vespers will be at 7 p.m. today in St. Scholastica Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel. Burial will be in St. Scholastica Cemetery by Putman Funeral Home. Sister Hyland made her profession of religious vows in 1923. She was an elementary school teacher in Arkansas and Missouri. She was an artist and taught art at St. Scholastica Academy in Fort Smith from 1949 to 1986. Survivors include seven sisters, Sister Frances Anne Braddock and Sister DeChantal Hyland, both of St. Scholastica, Amy Kuster of Amarillo, Joan Homan of Blue Eye, Mo., Joyce Tingle of Fort Worth, Maureen Schwaller of New Braunfels and Rita Walker of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and a brother, Brother Gerald Hyland of St. Louis. New Mexico Luciano Saiz CLOVIS, N.M. - Luciano Saiz, 90, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Guadalupe by the Rev. Daniel M. Balizan. Burial will be in Anton Chico Cemetery at Anton Chico by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Saiz was born in Anton Chico. He married Mariana Segura in 1923 at Anton Chico. They moved to Clovis in 1939. He was a former textile worker and had been employed by a carpet dyeing company in Culver City, Calif. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Survivors include two sons, Luciano Saiz Jr. of Lakewood, Calif., and Lorenzo Saiz of Clovis; five daughters, Ottie Parker of Granada Hills, Calif., Madalina Rodriguez and Stella Gallegos, both of Clovis, Inez Saiz of Canoga Park, Calif., and Lela Dawson of Sepulveda, Calif.; 41 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Area Christina Gomez Hammett DALHART - Christina Gomez Hammett, 31, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday in Hass Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 2 p.m. today in St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Hammett was born in Amarillo. She was raised in Dalhart and graduated from Dalhart High School in 1984. She married Rusty Hammett in 1990 at Dalhart. Mrs. Hammett served on the DACC board and long-range planning committees. She also volunteered for CASA, youth baseball and PTA. She was a 4-H club manager, Americorps director and a member of Eta Upsilon. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband; a son, Tyler Morin of the home; three daughters, Chantel Hammett, Sarah Hammett and Sayde Hammett, all of the home; her parents, Vincent and Cecilia Gomez of Dalhart; three sisters, Nancy Gomez, Teresa Smoot and Rita Barrow, all of Dalhart; and five brothers, Vince Gomez Jr., Patrick Gomez, Alvin Gomez, and Mario Gomez, all of Dalhart, and Phillip Gomez of San Jose, Calif. The family will be at 1101 Peach. They request memorials be to the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center. William Kretz PAMPA - William Kretz, 99, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Shamrock Memorial Cemetery at Shattuck, Okla., with Dr. Jene Miller of First United Methodist Church of Arnett, Okla., officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Kretz was born in Lehigh, Kan. He married Mary Meier in 1919 at Shattuck. She died in 1924. He married Beulah Chambers in 1926 and moved to Pampa. She died in 1995. Mr. Kretz operated a cafe in Shattuck. He worked for Texaco and retired after 35 years service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pampa and the Men's Fellowship Class. He also was a member of the IOOF Lodge and the Pampa Senior Citizens. Survivors include two daughters, Opal Bradley of Whittier, Calif., and Billie Oliver of Las Vegas; a sister, Leona Godbout of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six greatgreat-grandchildren. Wylie C. McKinney BORGER - Wylie C. McKinney, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrews Methodist Church with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Devotion in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. McKinney was a native of Hedley and moved to Borger in 1942. He was a Baptist and a past member of the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Posse. He was a foreman for Phillips Petroleum before retiring. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable, in 1984. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Collins of Fritch and Sally Hayes of Oklahoma City; a brother, Paul McKinney of Borger; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Walter Clay Gadberry FOLLETT - Walter Clay Gadberry, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Follett School Auditorium with the Rev. Clay Wells and the Rev. Scott Richards officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Perryton. Mr. Gadberry was born in Catesby, Okla., and had been a longtime resident of Follett. He married Edith Long in 1935. She died in 1968. He married Ruby Steinert in 1968. He continued the family tradition of ranching and farming land settled in 1886 by his grandfather, Isaiah Gigger. He also had been an active pilot from 1946 until last year. He was a Mason and a member of United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Gadberry of Follett; two stepsons, Kay Kunka of San Antonio and Gary Kunka of Follett; two stepdaughters, Sherry Kunka of Amarillo and Fran Winn of Follett; a brother, Bob Gadberry of Follett; two sisters, Helen Keller of Follett and Dora Perry of Adrian; 10 grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Elma M. Pruitt FARWELL - Elma M. Pruitt, 78, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with grandsons, the Rev. Clayton L. Osburn of Fort Worth and the Rev. Derek D. Osburn of Haskell, officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery in Muleshoe by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Pruitt was born in Mangum, Okla. He married Loren Taylor in 1937 at Carlsbad, N.M. He moved from Clovis, N.M., to Muleshoe in 1959 and lived there until 1978, when he moved to Seminole. He moved to Farwell in 1989. He was a 1936 Muleshoe High School graduate. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Seminole. He was a retired farmer and farm machinery salesman. Survivors include his wife; two sons, E.D. Pruitt of Levelland and H.L. Pruitt of Hobbs, N.M.; three daughters, M. Joan Baldwin of Clovis, and Patricia Osburn and Connie Kalick, both of Levelland; a sister, Joy Coston of Clovis; a brother, Harold Pruitt of La Feria; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
