Edens GUYMON, Okla. - A.D. Edens, 65, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Sunset Lane Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Riddles, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by BunchRoberts Funeral Home. Mr. Edens was born in Leonard. He attended schools in Plainview, Texas, and Hereford, Texas. He married Cleta Stowers in 1955 at Friona, Texas. They moved to Guymon from Friona in 1955. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He and his brother, Bill, were cofounders of the Texas County Sheriff's Posse. He was a member of Sunset Lane Baptist Church and was the owner and operator of Edens Trucking. Survivors include his wife; a son, Danny Edens of Guymon; two daughters, Amanda Derrick of Guymon and Toni Nolan of Optima; a sister, Barbara Morgan of Ardmore; and five grandchildren. Friends may visit the funeral home from 9 to 11:30 a.m. today. Helen H. Balzer HOOKER, Okla. - Helen H. Balzer, 91, a former Hooker resident, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, in Corn. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Gospel of Grace Church with the Rev. Gary Wiens, pastor, and the Rev. Cary Balzer officiating. Burial was in the Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Balzer was born in McPherson County, Kan. When she was 4 months old she moved with her parents to Texas County in the Oklahoma Panhandle, settling southeast of Hooker. She attended Pleasant View and Neff schools and Tabor College. She was a charter member of Gospel of Grace Church of Hooker and served many years teaching Bible classes, Sunday school and daily Vacation Bible School. She also held offices in the Women's Missionary Society and Hospitality Committee. She married Abe V. Balzer in 1927. They farmed and operated a drapery business. In 1971 they moved to Hooker and lived there until 1988. In the fall of 1988, they moved to Hillsboro, Kan., and in 1994 they moved to Corn. Her husband preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Robert Balzer of Weatherford and Lee Balzer of Siloam Springs, Ark.; a sister, Sarah Voth of Hooker; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker, a seamstress and a member of Highland Baptist Church. She married Wayne Driskill in 1940. He preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Larry Driskill of Lubbock and James Driskill of Hot Springs, Ark.; two brothers, C.E. Ketchum of Eagles Nest, N.M., and Don Ketchum of Edmonson; a sister, Nita Ramming; and four grandchildren. Steaven Earl Payne AUBURN, Wash. - Steaven Earl Payne, 49, a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1996. Services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, in Yahn and Son Funeral Home. Mr. Payne was born in Amarillo and moved to Auburn 12 years ago. He graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo. After graduation he served two tours of duty at Vietnam with the Army. He married Cynthia E. Jones in 1970 at Amarillo. He was a plumber and had worked for various plumbing companies. He also worked for Phillips Petroleum at Borger for five years before moving to Auburn. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 232 at Federal Way and attended a nondenominational church. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steaven Payne of Dalhart, Texas, and Jason Payne and Joshua Payne, both of the home; a daughter, Rachel Lynn Payne of the home; his grandmother, Zevilla Lynn of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. Donald Schmidt LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Donald "Gene" Schmidt, 34, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1996, at Highland, Ill. Services were at 9 a.m. Monday in Hosanna Christian Fellowship. Memorial services are pending in Amarillo. Burial was in Lusk Cemetery at Lusk, Wyo. by Horan and McConaty Funeral Service at Aurora. Mr. Schmidt was born in Japan. He attended Eastridge Elementary School and Caprock High School in Amarillo. He served two years with the Marine Corps. He had been a truck driver for Pike's Trucking Carbonic Reserve and at the time of his death was driving for El Dorado Carriers in Englewood. He also had worked as a parts man for Baker Dodge, John Chandler Ford and Midway Chevrolet, all in Amarillo. He was a member of Hosanna Christian Fellowship. He married Donna Zimmer in 1995 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nicole Schmidt of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Valerie Zimmer and Sara Zimmer, both of Lakewood; a stepson, Nicholas Zimmer of Lakewood; his mother, Wanda Schmidt; a brother, Joseph Schmidt of Amarillo; a sister, Carmen Nichols of Amarillo; and his grandmother, Dorothy Brewer of Torrington, Wyo. The family suggests memorials be to Hosanna Christian Fellowship, 16748 E. Iliff Ave., Aurora, Colo. 80013. Clyde M. Teague JACKSBORO - Clyde M. Teague, 100, died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997. Services were January 6 in the Christian Church at Cheyenne Wells. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery by Love Funeral Home. Mr. Teague was born in rural Jacksboro. He moved with his family to Oklahoma in 1987 and became a cowboy. In 1904, the family bought a ranch near Pecos where they ranched until his father died. He was a Baptist and a singer in the gospel music field. He organized singing schools that were taught by Virgil O. Stamps from Dallas. In 1924 he and four neighbors moved to a ranch near Brownfield and later moved to Hale County. In 1941 he moved near Tulia and later that year moved to Cheyenne Wells, Colo. He farmed in Cheyenne County for 15 years. His wife of 45 years, Maggie, preceded him in death. After her death, he moved to Texas and New Mexico. He also was preceded in death by three children, Perry Hushel, Eddie Laverne and Audrey Mae Terry. Survivors include two sons, Dalton Teague and Clyde M. Teague Jr.; and five grandchildren. Arthur Lee Howard DENVER - Arthur Lee Howard, 82, died. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Aurora First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Hampden Memorial Gardens by Aurora Chase Mortuary and Crematory. Mr. Howard was born in Childress, Texas. He married Virgie W. Hall in 1940 at Sayre, Okla. She died in 1990. He married Joyce N. Hale in 1993 at Amarillo. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 at Fort Sill, Okla. He was a technical sergeant and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a civil service employee, working at Cheyenne, Wyo. Air Force Base from 1948 to 1949 and 1953 to 1957; at Amarillo Air Force Base from 1958 to 1967; and at Lowry Air Force Base from 1967 to 1979. He worked 33 years in the department of the Air Force. He also taught data processing and was supervisor of supply and administration. He homesteaded at Powell, Wyo., near Yellowstone National Park from 1949 to 1952. He was a member and deacon of Aurora First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the American Legion. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne H. DeLano. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Michele H. Smith of Grand Haven, Mich., Cecile H. McElroy of Amarillo and Jeannie H. Lebsack of Parker; a stepson, Larry R. Mrs. Redpath was a former resident of Gallavalley, Beaufort, Ireland. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Redpath, in 1976. She was a homemaker and a member of the Franciscian Friary. Opal Darnell Opal Darnell, 85, a former Amarillo resident, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, in Floresville. Osage St. Mrs. Darnell was born in Newlin. She moved to Amarillo in 1937 from Pampa. She moved to Floresville in 1993 from Amarillo. She married Leonard Darnell in 1929 at Clarendon. He died in 1970. She was a youth director at First Baptist Church for several years. She also worked for churches in Florida and San Antonio. Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Coker and Linda Federspill, both of San Antonio; a son, Tom Darnell of Flowermound; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Simmons, 96, of Amarillo, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997. Two years after Simmons began a 34year career with Cravens, Dargan and Co. Insurance, the company sent him to Amarillo where he was Panhandle manager and resident vice president of the Gulf Coast Investment Corp. He retired in 1966. Mr. Simmons had been a member and an elder of First Christian Church. He served on the church's property committee, was a trustee and served as president of the Congenial Couples Sunday School class. He also was active in the Christian Men's Fellowship. He married Maurine Hale in 1923 at Wichita Falls. She died in 1979. Survivors include a son, Lt. Gen. Charles J. She also was a charter member of the Amarillo United Citizens Forum and Amarillo Senior Citizens Association. She was a member of Wonderful View Chapter No. 125 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Myrtle Stubblefield PLAINVIEW - Myrtle Reece Stubblefield, 87, of Garden City, Kan., a former Plainview resident, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997. Stubblefield, son of the deceased, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Mrs. Stubblefield was born in Decker and graduated from Spur High School. She married Howard B. Stubblefield in 1929 at Spur. Her husband was a Church of Christ minister, and they served churches in several Panhandle towns. They moved to Silverton in 1948 and to Plainview in 1956. Her husband died in 1969. She moved to Garden City in 1988. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was active in World Bible School with more than 10,000 lessons distributed. She had worked for Jack Morris Ford for several years. Survivors include two sons, Howard E. Stubblefield of California and Robert E. Stubblefield of Garden City; a sister, Mattie Ellen Thomas of Seattle; five brothers, Leonard Reece of Leonard, Ark., J.H. She moved with her family from Stratford to Gruver in 1962 and graduated from Gruver High School with the class of 1968. She married Dennis Gordon Stedje in 1968. They made their home in the Oslo community and farmed there. She received an elementary education degree from Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., and had been teaching in the Pringle-Morse Consolidated School District for the past nine years. She was instrumental in the creation of the school's Gifted and Talented Program and was honored twice as the Pringle-Morse Teacher of the Year. She was a member of Oslo Lutheran Church and was active in the Alpha Mu Psi social sorority and the Gruver Music Club. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Shelley Stedje of Fort Worth; a son, Scott Stedje of the home; her parents, Bonnie and Austin Benson of Gruver; a sister, Cindy Holton of Spearman; and a brother, Bobby Benson of Longmont, Colo. A Kathy Stedje Memorial has been designated for a livestock judging scholarship at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He moved to Dimmitt in 1949 and farmed there. He moved to Plainview in 1959 and worked for the city of Plainview in the sanitation department. He retired in 1973. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Glenda Faye Higgs and Pat Wheeler, both of Plainview, Nelda Jean Cathey of Quitaque, Marleta Mayfield of Lubbock, Diane Laurent of Bovina and Debra Young of Edmonson; two sons, Gary Don Bailey and Ronnie Mack Bailey, both of Lubbock; a sister, Ola B. Donald Gene Lynskey MORTON - Donald Gene Lynskey, 62, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Boles and the Rev. Gordon Renshaw officiating. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Lynskey was born in Wellington. He had lived in Morton since 1955, moving from Lovington, N.M. He was a farmer and had served in the Navy. Survivors include a son, Gene Lynskey of Morton; two daughters, Donna Beavers of The Woodlands and Elaine Kovalcik of Georgetown; two brothers, Billy Joe Lynskey and Jimmy Lynskey, both of Levelland; two sisters, Merle Degrechie of Goldsboro, N.C., and Patsy Shipman of Spring; and five grandchildren. Suzie Elizabeth Coleman MEMPHIS - Suzie Elizabeth Coleman, 96, of Lubbock, a former Memphis resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with Tom Posey officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Spicer Funeral Home. Mrs. Coleman was born in Roberta, Ga. She married Roy L. Coleman in 1928 at Childress. He died in 1973. She had been a teacher for Memphis ISD. She was a member of Raintree Christian Church in Lubbock. Survivors include two sons, Roy Don Coleman and Jon Carrol Coleman, both of Lubbock; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity.
