Burial will be in Happy Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home Inc. of Canyon. Mr. Spiser was born in Happy. He was raised in the Happy community and attended Happy schools. He was a farmer and a trucker. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He married Barbara "Bobbie" Jean Moore in 1952 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Pamela Fitzgerald and Denise Spiser, both of Amarillo, and Sherri Spiser of Tulia; a son, Gregg Spiser of Canyon; four sisters, Lula Spiser, Luella Spiser and Mabel Vieth, all of Amarillo, and Ardelle Elliott of Dumas. Octavia Carthel LOCKNEY - Octavia Carthel, 81, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in West College and Third Street Church of Christ with Frank Duckworth, minister, and Clark Johnson, retired Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Moore-RoseWhite Funeral Home. Mrs. Carthel was born in Floyd County, and she attended schools in Lockney. She was a homemaker and a member of the El Progresso Study Club, the Lockney Senior Citizens and West College and Third Street Church of Christ. She served as a district officer for the Parent Teachers Association and as a state officer for the Home Demonstration Club. She married Theodore Hershel Carthel in 1933 at Lockney. He died in March. Survivors include a son, Ted Carthel of Denton; a daughter, Barbara Mathis of Lockney; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Kersey was born in Bertrand. He had farmed and ranched in the area for many years. He married Martha Boese in 1937 at Union Chapel, Okla. They moved to Dalhart in 1982. She died in 1988. Burial will be in Muleshoe Cemetery. Mr. Reed was born in Wichita Falls. He had lived in Muleshoe since 1956, moving from Sudan. He served with the Army during World War II. Mrs. Wallace was born in Tucumcari, N.M., and had been a lifetime resident of Friona. She owned Mandy's Restaurant in Friona for several years. She worked at Poor Boy's Bar-B-Que and at Moore's Grocery Store for several years. She also was a dispatcher for the Friona police department. She was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Clovis. Oklahoma Prentis Sargent Beasley GUYMON, Okla. - Prentis Sargent "Cap" Beasley, 95, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Henson-Novak Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. David Schwarz, missionary in Costa Rica, and the Rev. Terry Armstrong, pastor of Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Beasley was born on the old Beasley Ranch. He attended Hardesty school and graduated from Guymon High School with the class of 1918. He was a World War I veteran of the Army. After the war, he attended Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell and the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he majored in finance and banking and was a member of Delta Upsilon. In 1930, he returned to the Panhandle and began his career in cattle. He operated a purebred Hereford breeding ranch. He was a lifetime member of the Hereford Association and was honored as the 1978 Texas County Pioneer Days Parade Marshal. Mr. Beasley married Dorotha Gertrude Roberts in 1940 at Miami, Texas. He was preceded in death by a stepson. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Prentis Beasley Jr. of Grain Valley, Mo., and Murry Beasley of Texhoma; a stepdaughter, Adeline Hensley of Loveland, Colo.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Miss Martinez was born in Beaver. She was a senior at Beaver High School and participated in 12th-grade vocal and FHA. She was an office aide and library aide. She also worked at the Beaver County Extension Office and the Pizza Hut. Canyon Mary Lucille Gillham Humphries Mary Lucille Gillham Humphries, 82, of Canyon, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997. Mrs. Humphries was born in Wayside. She had been a longtime Canyon resident. She helped run the family dairy in Canyon until the early 1960s. She married E.H. "Speck" Humphries in 1936 at Abilene. New Mexico Betty Enders CLOVIS, N.M. - Betty Enders, 86, of the Clovis and Melrose areas, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Melrose Cemetery at Melrose with Larry Hancock, bishop of the Prairieview Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Enders was born aboard her father's gravel barge on the Rhine River near the German-Denmark border. She married Friedrich "Fritz" Enders in 1934 at Jugenhiem, Germany. They were drafted into the German Army during World War II. After the war, they immigrated to Canada in 1954 and to the United States in 1959, settling in San Diego for several years. They lived in Nevada and managed a motel before moving to Melrose in 1978. Mrs. Enders was a member of Melrose First United Methodist Church. She was a seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Friedrich Wilhelm "Fred W." Enders Sr. of Clovis; and two grandsons. Myrtle Ruth Felty TAIBAN, N.M. - Myrtle Ruth Felty, 99, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel at Clovis. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Felty was born in Franklin County, Texas. She lived in Clovis for 57 years before moving to Taiban 12 years ago. She was a Baptist. Mr. Tenorio was born in Pintada. He married Amada Cordova in 1929 at Anton Chico. They moved to Clovis in 1944. He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Lizaria Tenorio; and two sons, Adan Tenorio and Eddie Tenorio. He worked as a laborer in the ice plant at the Santa Fe Railway. He also worked in maintenance at the Grand Avenue Homes in Clovis. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. She moved to Amarillo in 1991 from Ponca City, where she lived for 65 years. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and had served as Grand Chaplain of the state order. She was a 60-year member of First United Methodist Church in Ponca City and was active in the Women's Circle, having served as circle chairman 16 times. She moved her membership to Polk Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She married Fred Swalley in 1934 at Wellington, Kan. He died in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Janette Dickerson of Amarillo; two sons, Clinton L. Swalley of West Sacramento, Calif., and Larry R. He belonged to the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and had held several offices with them. He was a member of the Downtown Lions Club and a charter member of the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association. He was a Mason for 50 years and a member of the Knights Templar for 50 years. He was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Keith was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the Navy Seabees 7th Battalion in the South Pacific. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cova J. Keith, in 1969. He married his wife Dorothy in 1971 at Tucson, Ariz. Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter, Wyn Murdock of Fort Worth; four brothers, C.W. Keith Jr. of Carlsbad, N.M., and L.C. Keith, John M. Keith and Jack W. The eulogy will be by Ellen Speed and Betty Kirk. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Moore was born in Amarillo and had been a lifelong Amarillo resident. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1990. He was a member of Bel-Canto Chorale. He graduated from Amarillo College in 1992. He then graduated from Texas Tech University in 1995 with a degree in psychology. He was a certified scuba diver. Mr. Moore was employed at the Amarillo Civic Center. He also had been employed at the Amarillo Psychiatric Pavilion and Cedar Creek Hospital. He worked for 11/2 years at Canyon Lakes Pavilion in Lubbock. Survivors include his mother, Janice L. Storrs of Amarillo; his stepfather, Gene Storrs of Amarillo; his father, Danny Moore of Lewisville; a sister, Myriah Moore of Austin; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fidler of Amarillo, Mr. and Mrs. James Moore of Pflugerville, and Lois Moore of Dallas. The family requests memorials be to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Glynn Franks Glynn Franks, 78, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997. Georgia St. Mr. Franks was born in Wellington and had lived in Amarillo for 65 years. He married Marjorie Vinyard in 1942 at Amarillo. He served with the Army from 1941 to 1945. He was drafted in 1941 in the Quartermaster Corps. He served overseas with the Gasoline Supply Division, 142nd Infantry Regiment from 1943 to 1945. He served in D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Franks returned to the United States in 1945 and attended West Texas State University. He joined the Texas National Guard as a personnel officer and retired as a chief warrant officer after 37 years of service. He and his family joined First Baptist Church in 1947. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ronald Glynn Franks of Manassas, Va., Van Edward Franks of Houston and Jay Randall Franks of Bedford; two daughters, Glynelle Oldham and Robin Timmons, both of Amarillo; and a brother, Cecil Franks of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. New Mexico Archola Coats PORTALES, N.M. - Archola Coats, 84, a former Portales resident, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, in Lubbock, Texas. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Frank Poyner officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. (CST) Friday in Ross Cemetery at Baird, Texas. Mrs. Coats was born in Star, Texas. She married O.L. Coats in 1931 at Baird. They lived in Portales from 1943 to 1949. They returned to Portales in 1955. Mr. Coats died in 1995. From 1968 to 1978, Mrs. Coats worked in the cafeteria at Eastern New Mexico University. Since 1994, she lived in Plainview, Texas, and then in Lubbock. Survivors include two sons, J.L. Coats of Plainview and Wink Coats of Shallowater, Texas; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Elaine Bridwell PORTALES, N.M. - Elaine Bridwell, 56, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ross Dunn and Dr. Don Holiday officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc. Mrs. Bridwell was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. She graduated from high School in Eula, Texas. She attended McMurray College in Abilene for two years. She married Bill Bridwell in 1962 at Abilene, Texas. They lived in Rogers before moving to Portales. After moving to Portales, she worked for a year as the secretary in the Floyd schools. She then worked as a secretary in the English department at Eastern New Mexico University. Mrs. Bridwell finished both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in 1970. She had been retired since 1993. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Asbury Sunday School class and the Las Campanas Handbell Choir. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Denise Windsor of Springville, Ariz., and Donna Karlin of Odessa, Texas; her mother, Birdie Lee Riley of Portales; and two grandchildren. Survivors include his mother, Celia Garza of Clovis; two brothers, Frederico Garza Jr. of Rio Rancho and Mario Garza of Clovis; a sister, Micki Cagle of Clovis; and his grandmother, Stella Garza of Clovis.
