Lester Hellen C. Lester, 90, of Amarillo, died Friday, May 9, 1997. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Lester was born in Mounds, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo most of her life. She married J.C. Lester in 1926. They owned Lester's Bakery, and she was an Avon representative for 25 years. She was a member of First Christian Church, and she and her husband were founding members of the Congenial Couples Sunday School Class. Mr. Lester died in 1978. Survivors include a daughter, Rose McDowell of Amarillo; a son, Charles Lester of Portales, N.M.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church, 3001 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas 79109. James Douglas Bolinger James Douglas Bolinger, 72, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 8, 1997. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with the Rev. Bob Schroeder, of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Mr. Bolinger was born in Liberal, Kan. He graduated from high school in 1942 at Marysville, Tenn., and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for Colorado Interstate Gas Co. for 38 years, retiring as an administrative supervisor. He moved to Amarillo in 1976 from Lakin, Kan. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Scottish Rite. He married Pauline Newton in 1944 at Reno, Nev. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Bolinger of San Diego, and Mitchell Bolinger of Pryor, Okla.; a daughter, Patti Montgomery of Plano; two brothers, Phillip Bolinger of Hugoton, Kan., and Amos Bolinger of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Marion Condren of Hugoton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, Texas 75219-9813. The body will not be available for viewing. Joe Williamson Joe Williamson, 76, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 8, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, with Dr. Marcus Adair, director of Faith Bible Center in Canyon, and the Rev. Lee Nelson, pastor of Apostolic Faith Church, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford. Mr. Williamson was born in Pine Log, Ark. He had lived in Hereford most of his life, moving to Amarillo in 1993. He was a truck driver for Hereford Butane Trucking and a member of Apostolic Faith Church. He married Norma Cooke in 1950 at Leakey. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jolene Wynne of Amarillo; a sister, Edith Alexander of Tearkana, Ark.; a brother, Clint Williamson of Bowie; and one grandchild. Eddie B. Jasper Eddie B. Jasper, 61, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 8, 1997. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in the Silverton Cemetery with the Rev. Edwin Norris officiating. He had served with the Army in Germany from 1958-1960. He was a truck driver. Elsewhere Christopher Teesdale GRANBURY - Christopher "Chris'' Teesdale, 74, a former Amarillo resident, died Thursday, May 8, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Granbury. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth by Wiley Funeral Home. Mr. Teesdale was active with Kiwanis Club Key Clubs and had worked as a Regional Counselor for the Texas-Oklahoma Key Clubs and Circle K Clubs. After selling his oil and gas business in 1986, he moved to Granbury. Survivors include his wife, Mary Teesdale; a daughter, Sharan of Honolulu; a son, Chris G. Teesdale of Dallas; and three grandchildren. Oklahoma New Mexico Kenneth Edward Smith PORTALES, N.M. - Kenneth Edward Smith, 56, of Loma Linda, Calif., a former Portales resident, died Tuesday, May 6, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church at Portales with L.V. Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary Inc. Mr. Smith was born in Clovis. He was raised in Portales and Milnesand. He attended school in Dora and later at Eastern New Mexico University at Portales. He moved to California in 1960 and remained there until his death. Survivors include his four children, Tonja Smith of Capitan, Sheldon Smith of Alto, Lance Smith of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Bryan Cazares of Fullerton, Calif.; three sisters, Doris Bakos of Houston, Laverna Harris of Petaluma, Calif., and Cecile Kelley of Portales; a brother, Jim Smith of Portales; and four grandchildren. Area Fred B. Luna TULIA - Fred B. Luna, 75, died Thursday, May 8, 1997. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Wallace Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today in Church of the Holy Spirit by the Rev. John Salazar-Jimenez, pastor. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Luna was born and raised in Pearsall and also lived in Robstown, Corpus Christi and Anson. He moved to Tulia in 1960 from Anson. He had been a welder for 20 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Italy. He was a member of Church of the Holy Spirit. He married Refugia Herrera in 1960 at Dimmitt. She died in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Susana Gonzalez of Royse City; four sons, Blas Estrada of Plainview, Danny Guzman of Royse City, Fred Dael Luna of Amarillo and Antonio Luna of Tulia; a sister, Josefa Penio of Slaton; a brother, Joe Luna of Corpus Christi; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Jearld Rook FRITCH - Jearld Rook, 55, died Thursday, May 8, 1997. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of the Fountains with the Rev. Art McAninch, pastor of Fairlanes Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Mr. Rook was born in Spearman and had lived in Fritch for 14 years. He was a self-employed ice cream salesman and a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Mary Janie; a son, Daryl Blassingame of Borger; two daughters, Kristi Rook of the home and Renea Lawson of Borger; his mother, Maxine Rook of Borger; three sisters, Donna Fox of Fritch, Elane Berry of Tolar and Iline Warren of Slaton; and eight grandchildren. Pablo G. Rodriguez HEREFORD - Pablo G. Rodriguez, 77, died Thursday, May 8, 1997. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Rix Chapel. Susie P. Mancha TULIA - Susie P. Mancha, 63, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Mancha was born and raised in Pearsall and had lived in Uvalde. She married Alvino Mancha in 1950 at Tulia. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of the Holy Spirit. Survivors include her husband; nine daughters, Irene Morales, Pat Rodriguez, Mary Ann Mancha, Sylvia Trevino and Beatrise Martinez, all of Tulia, Estella Garza and Carmen Ortiz, both of Salt Lake City, Josie Suerez of Sterling, Colo., and Marylou Mancha of Waco; five sons, Alvino Mancha Jr., Rudy Mancha and Jesse Mancha, all of Tulia, Paul Mancha of Pharr and Johnny Mancha of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Rosa Villegaz; two brothers, Frank Pena and Poline Pena Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pampa, officiating. Mrs. Boyd was born in Hamilton County. She married Willie "Bill'' Boyd in 1920 at McLean. He died in 1981. She moved to Spearman from McLean in 1994. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Senior Citizens Association and Senior Citizens Quilters of McLean. Survivors include a son, Granville Boyd of Spearman; a daughter, Nadine Wimberly of Whitesboro; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel in Plainview with the Rev. Gene Meacham, pastor of First Baptist Church in Hale Center, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Jones was born in Powers, Colo. She married Leo Murrel Jones in 1937 at Plainview. He died in 1989. She moved to Plainview in 1980. In 1995, she moved to Hot Springs, Ark., from San Antonio. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Hale Center. Survivors include a daughter, Rhetta Heiser of Hot Springs; a son, Alfred Ross Jones of Dallas; a sister, Georgia Wallace of Phoenix; five brothers, Ben Caudle of Amarillo, Otas Caudle of Phoenix, W.J. Caudle and Cecil Caudle, both of Lubbock, and Archie Caudle of Mamou, La.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Transito Murillo Flores DUMAS - Transito Murillo Flores, 89, died Friday, May 9, 1997. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dumas. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Richard Scully, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Flores was born in Rancho La Playa, Zacatecas, Mexico. He had lived in Dumas for 40 years. He married Camerina Hernandez in 1956 in Mexico. He had worked for several years at Chicago Steel Mill and retired from Santa Fe Railway after 23 years as a trackman. He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Maria Flores Cortes and Lucy Maria Cortes, both of Dumas; a son, Sid Flores of Dumas; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She married Claude Carol Ticer in 1955 at Childress. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Ann Morgan in 1956. Survivors include her husband; a son, Garry Morgan of Houston; two daughters, Billie Nelle Rogers and Danita Carol Miranda, both of Childress; three sisters, Ruby Sullivan of Lubbock, and Pauline Cass and Mary Hunter, both of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Elsie Emma Bell PLAINVIEW - Elsie Emma Bell, 92, died Thursday, May 8, 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors Chapel with Richard Kasko officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Bell was born in Mount Pleasant and had been a Borger resident since 1990, having recently moved to Plainview. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, William P. Bell of Plainview; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren. Verl L. Miller HEREFORD - Verl L. Miller, 84, died Friday, May 9, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Rose Chapel with Van Miller officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Floyd County Memorial Park Cemetery by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Ms. Miller was born in Ryan, Okla. She moved to Deaf Smith County from Floyd County in 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of Park Avenue Church of Christ. Survivors include a sister, Verona Jack of Hereford; and a brother, W.L. Miller of Lubbock. Ava Hawkins LOCKNEY - Ava Hawkins, 107, of Quitaque died Friday, May 9, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church of Quitaque with the Rev. Steve Ulrey, pastor, and the Rev. Lynn Dill of the Church of God in Denver City officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home in Lockney. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Snyder and attended Elkins schools. She married Bill Ware in 1906 in Kent County. He preceded her in death. She married Pierce Hawkins in 1936 at Quitaque. He died in 1962. She worked as a clerk at Patterson Dry Good Store in Quitaque. She also was preceded in death by a son, Oliver Keith Ware, and a daughter Iva Ernestine Ware. Survivors include a nephew, Sid McFall of Quitaque; and a niece, Ava Gay Dill of Brownfield. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. The family will be at the home of Verona and Bertram Jack in Hereford.
